Daily Trust won't mention directly that majority of the child beggars are Almajiris from the HausaFulanisKanuri Muslims of the North.
Have been in Uyo severally for work and I noticed very large presence of HausaFulanis from North with their people from Chad, Niger Republic, Mali, Senegal etc all selling slippers, caps, kolanut and everything hawkable.

Uyo is a beautiful city with very rich meals...!!

whats the meaning of severally? Naija version of english na wa o

Maybe it is propaganda , but there are two ways of responding to such propaganda

1.pretending that such a problem does not exist OR

2.Getting up and doing something about it.

Which choice would you make.?

A certain state was once called an ashawo state. The then first lady of the state sat up and accepted they were an ashawo state...and then did something about it.

A big problem with Nairalanders is that we love to wail and to live in denial, but we don't have the courage to stand up and do something about the problems we face as a people and as a nation.

History, ultimately is written by the doers, not by the wailers.

the stupid ex-almanjiri OP didn't know that uyo is different from Oyo, Probably 80% of those kids are Almanjiri fulani kids, and even in oyo state in ibadan especially they have taken over parts of the city and turned begging into a career....the incompetency of northern leaders is putting pressure on the south in a very serious way...... it's important southern governors come down hard on. Asides this I can say that akpabio and udom have both done well in akwa ibom compared to other SE/SS states.

Govt shld rehabilitate these kids. But dt does not mean dt witches and wizards do not exist.A child driven away by own parents. And u think u can love d child more than his/her parents?
Most Young people have seen a little in life.Dts why they label everyone evil.
I have personally tried to rehabilitate my late brother's son bandoned by his own mother.Guess what,he was caught at night when everyone was asleep wielding a matchet to kill grandma after urinating on d sleeping old woman. When interrogated,he said he wanted to urinate. What then are u doing with a matchet,he said nothing. And dt was how I sent him packing.
U won't understand what some kids are really until u fall into their hands. Then ur thought of calling all kids innocent will vanish.
Some kids u see today if u are not careful can sell u as an adult.
As u try to help kids, thread carefully as well for some are in prisons tdy for their acts of kindness.Only govt, can safely rehabilitate imp kids.
For when one probes into what killed his father without fortification, what killed his father will end his life as well.
The words of our fathers, are words of wisdom.
The wise hears and gets wiser, while d foolish hears and keeps arguing until he ends up in f grave.

Akwa-Ibom and Delta States are a disappointment seriously.. They get huge allocations more than any other state, not even Lagos the commercial and international nerve centre gets up to half of what they get yet negligence, poverty and illiteracy reigns supreme.

Even the NDDC has turned cash cow for a few set among them and their Northern friends. It's a pity.

Africa doesn't have a standard, you can buy something for 10,000 naira in the morning and still buy it for 20,000 naira the same day. This has happened to me several times.

In europe, the cost of eggs in 2001 is still the same as today. Are they magicians? Africa doesn't have a standard whatsoever. Africa is extremely poor. Most families in the North can't produce 200 naira daily except they beg. Leave your home and see things.

Mr, I don't base my conclusion on hearsay. I have lived and worked in Uyo for sometime so I know what I am saying. In Uyo it's either one is really rich or dirt poor. The gap between the haves and the have nots is large. The government has not devised efficient ways of spreading the wealth of that state to the generality of the people. Besides these Uyo in Akwa Ibom is a nice place to stay. I really enjoyed my stay there.

The gap between the poor and the rich is wide in Nigeria as a whole, it's not only in uyo or Akwa Ibom. It's a Nigerian thing. Almajiri beg everywhere in Nigeria it's not only in Uyo. Why are u people always quick to say all manner of bad things about Akwa Ibom? Always starting with the usual statement .."I have lived and worked in Uyo" ...bla bla bla..Even when some of you haven't stepped foot in that place.

Daily Trust looking for friends in the Almanjiri cycle.

I believe the story is sensational, although a few isolated incidence might occur.
You should not talk for the sake of it...Daily Trust are right, here in Calabar, they're referred to as "Skolombo"...They became so much of a nuisance that when Sen. Liyel was then Governor, he launched operation Skolombo to curtail their criminal activities in the streets...
