Thank you for your intelligent contribution. An average Nigerian is always in competition with others about money. Money is not everything. Probably the OP missed the opportunity of going to US some time ago and he want to justify himself that he is still doing well despite the miss. You can't compare people doing well in US or Western World to yourself at all. Your N22m savings to day will loose its value with the depreciation of Naira. Also some abroad may not be earning much but they are living in Properties which could be more than $500k and could be sold if they have to return home

I love competitive people, but the obsession I saw in his posts is just utterly disgusting.

You have said it all.

The OP, just like many other homebased guys are steady in a dick-measuring-contest with diasporans. I would never understand why.

Stay your lane, let them stay theirs. They no kuku send you sef. lipsrsealed

Exactly. Everyone is in a journey for himself.

It's not just the money, it is also the quality of life you live,I don't care if you make 200million naira a year,if don't have roads light water security, safe school, and not fearing kidnappers and Jazz men,you are really not living considering that you are only in this world for a limited time

Depends what you do in America. If you work for somebody or company, I don't care if you are a doctor, engineer or lawyer, or mere warehouse worker, your income will be limited by tax even if you live frugally because you have no control of your taxes and you will shed almost 50% in taxes if you make more across taxes (federal, state, property and estate). Lets say you make $150k, government collect almost $75k in taxes across. You are left with $75k, after your house, car, emergency and personal expenses, you re left with $10-20k in the bank every yr. You can live a comfortable life but you will never be wealthy!

Now, if you own your own business, not mom and pop kiosk, I mean real business over $500k in revenue, you will have more control of your taxes. Once you understand how America works, which most Nigerians or black immigrants never understand anyways...just living the American dream blindly( big house and nice cars) and fatally in debt, you will know that America rewards business owners and entrepreneurs. Most Asian immigrants understand this which is why they own their own business and don't work for people!

Any Nigerian you know that is very very wealthy in America, has his/her own big business. These are not small boys and girls, they have over 5 employees (that's over $200k/90million in payroll a year assuming $45k each employee a yr), business location cost $500k-$5million. They rarely pay taxes because their business give them that advantage. Go and read why and how the rich in America pay zero to no taxes...actually government doesn't want you to if you create job, invest or an entrepreneur!

You've made very valid points overall, but there's no way someone who earns $150,000 in gross annual income will be taxed at 50%. in the U.S. It should be more like 35% max depending on their marital status and number of dependents. Agreed the tax codes favor business owners more than paid employees but the disposal income available to people will depend of several factors like: location, lifestyle, spending habits, financial responsibility etc.

If you are making so much money in Nigeria, please stay. If you think you can do better in the US, it's a big fat lie.

Ask about Bills people pay in US. Tax, electricity, rent, transportation etc. Its not easy. People survive mostly on Credit Cards and that's the truth.

You cannot even save N2m a year.

@ Nobody, you have said it all the rich do not pay taxes in the west, it may look like they pay, but in actual sense they do not., my brother or sister do not engage in people who do not know what a plane looks like, not to talk of how an airport looks like. silence is golden.

Not how taxes work in America. People like you belong to the category of black immigrants I stated don't understand how America works and don't want to learn. Any government in power can only increase or decrease income tax by 1-10% based on historical cuts. In practical sense only applies to employees, not the wealthy or business owners, as they have more control of their taxes. The wealthy rarely pay taxes and I won't explain further. Research!

Rent in U.S is 1000+ monthly and the average Nigerian in U.S is a minimum wage earner, don't forget transportation, light and water at the end of the month, one is left with little cash for saving.

I see a lot of people making assumptions on how others live.....how many regular working Nigerians can save 1 million naira yearly...for if you are equating a regular workers saving with that if a man who is into biz then that makes no sense

Ps you can be rich anywhere if you are lucky and smart enough

I am a businessman and the thing is I am in for money in any choice I make. I made around 22 million in savings last year. Though I cut family and girlfriends off my life to achieve that and am in Nigeria.

But seeing the doings of people outside The country, there was an America based lady that spent over 12 million naira on her mother's burial. For her to spend that much I believe she will have 20x of that amount.

At least for an upright thinking fellow, I feel like am making less so am thinking of relocating. Can I make over 22 million yearly in savings in USA, If no how much can I save? Talk from your personal experience pls, Let stop deceiving each other pls, How much did you save annually in USA? Please let be sincere.

Long story short.
Money spent does not equal to money saved. Did you pay tax last year? Or are you talking of N22m tax free?

In California, the minimum wage is $15,but not all employers honor the payment, especially if you are not yet a citizen. But other states minimum wages are even lower than California some even pay $8 to $10. But is easy to get a job in California compare to other state. If you want cheap accommodation, you can stay in the project or low income housing, but the security situation is not that good so i advice you don't. As for food,if you decide to go for junk foods, they are affordable compare to vegetables and as for women go for single moms, they are less likely to demand for Money and are looking for a serious relationship.

Minimum wage only applies to those who no wish much for themselves...minimum wage here does not give you any meaningful life that allows you to save

Im surprised that so far you're the only one that has mentioned this. What are you saving 22m for exactly? Money that should be making more money. Nonsense!
Life is absurd.
You keep making money just to keep making money till you die.
If you have children, they will do the same.
If you don't die, there will be too many humans.
Life is absurd.
If you are poor like me,you will have to keep living from hand to mouth till you die unless you experience a breakthrough that will make you to want to have children that will not suffer like you till you die.

All these people on the comment section don’t know how US or Europe works, you may die while working, you will age faster than your younger brother in Nigeria, you will likely fall sick by tomuch work overload.
At the end of every year you will realise that you did not save up to 4m.
Here you can’t escape tax, you ca never escape it. You will work for the government till you die, be wise.[/quote

It depends on your educational achievement and skill. Do not let any security guard tell you he saves 15 million naira a year.
Re: Nigerians In USA, Do You Save More Than N15 Million Yearly? by firstratedcitiz(m): 12:23am On Mar 08, 2021
How much you are able to save within a year depends on the kind of jobs you do that yield the money. I can only be honest and speak for myself: I don't quite manage to save up the kind of amount you're mentioning (millions) per annum. My own savings acummulated over the years. I am studying here in Atlanta but also working and making money at the same time. But much of my savings ends up in my domiciliary naira account back home in Nigeria. A small chunk of my earnings do end up also as remittance to family and friends back home.

If I should look at my personal savings and equate the sum of money to living standards in this country, it would look as a small saving. However, as repatriated savings, it would appear as multiple millions.

So, it depends. The exchange rate of the naira to dollar plays a huge part.
