NIGERIAN ARMY DID NOT ISSUE ANY STATEMENT ON SSC/DSSC SCREENING

The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to fake information being circulated in the social media by mischief makers claiming that the just concluded SSC/DSSC screening has been scrapped because of the “change in administration of the Nigerian Army”.

The fake report also stated that SSC course 47 and DSSC Course 26 registration will begin from 1st of September 2021 till 1st of October 2021 and that all applicants that registered for SSC 47 and DSSC 26 are advised to register again.

The Nigerian Army wishes to inform the general public that it does not charge any fees for online registration and other related matters and advice people to be wary of activities of scammers. The Army states that the above information is totally false as the statement did not emanate from the office of the Military Secretary nor any department of the Army.

The general public is hereby advised to discountenance the report as it is a handiwork of jobless mischief makers.

@eclipsehemmy I take exception to your statement saying I didn't get it from any officer. I dont owe you any explanation and it is your kind that make alot of people not to post useful intel her.

Moreso, I said at the end of my statement that I hope it isnt true. If the first publication wasn't in the public space why will they be a debunk message?? It was necessary to share because it concerns this group.

Also, you shock me as thou you are not a Nigerian, even your father Monguno has denied what he clearly said yesterday. This is Nigeria and this is our reality.

Finally I implore you to use your senses and apply wisdom when interacting with people especially in a faceless forum. Please be guided.

HE WAS A WORTHY WARLORD!

August 2016 will arguably remain one of the most memorable months in my entire life as it was my first shot at enlisting into the Army as a combatant officer through the NA SSC Course 44 at NDA (old site, Ribadu Cantonment). There, I met the finest of officers in the Army, and of course, wonderful candidates who went on to become Army officers now.

One particular officer stood out for all of us. He was a junior Captain then and the Admin Officer of the selection panel. His name was Captain SG Abdul, but we nicknamed him "German Dose". because he was very disciplined, fierce and never hesitated to issue us german doses of hard "jobs" when we malingered or fall short of expectations.

Capt. Abdul was a Regular (NDA-bred), very fine officer who seized every chance to thrill us with his escapades at the theatre of battle (NE) and life in the Army generally. His persona, charisma and carriage exuded pure military professionalism. To most of us, he was a role model in the military career path we had chosen. We silently craved to be like him

During our exams at Professor Yahaya Hall in NDA, as he was recounting one of such escapades, he wondered aloud as to how he was still alive up till then. How he and his soldiers would repel attacks from insurgents, stay in bushes for weeks with a just a few wraps of eba, wondering who would get hit next in the exchange of gunfire.

German Dose blessed us with fond memories. Memories that were bitter and sorrowful at the time, but when I look back now, an unconscious smile registers on my face:

There was this night that I went to bed really really hungry. The meals they were serving at Cadet mess were too measly. I craved really good meal so much that I ate in the dream that night. I woke up the following morning with a terrible bout of malaria, but still had to muster at the parade ground like every other candidate. I had to tip soldier Mugabe to help buy me a loaf of bread to add to the bread and tea they would serve at the mess that morning. I ate to my fill, took some drugs and squeezed the remaining bread inside my waist pouch.

We were to begin screening for medical fitness at Afaka, NDA new site, that morning, so a bus had to convey us from NDA old site down to the military hospital in Afaka. Our bus was the last bus in the convoy, so by the time our bus parked, most candidates were already grinding their butts on the ground.

German dose gave till the count 7 for everyone to be seated on the ground. By the time he finished counting, me and 3 other unfortunate candidates were yet to be seated. He called all 4 of us, pointed us to two drums that were closeby and told us to hang our legs on the drum with our palms on the ground, assuming an upside down standing position.

People of God, I hanged till my entire biceps and triceps were shaking, until I fell. German Dose ordered me to take my position again. I just kept falling and falling. I began to plead, "Oga sir, I no well ooo". He told me, "Candidate, me sef no well. All of us here no well. In fact, even COAS sef no well". I thought I was gonna die that day. When he eventually released us, I threw confusion for several minutes before I got myself.

There was this other more matured senior Captain (Capt. Abdullahi) that is a naturally-gifted storyteller. He would also come around and tell us stories of the battles he fought on peace-keeping missions. That same day, as this Captain was thrilling us with stories as usual, one useless candidate just came out from nowhere and began said to his village man "all of una don gather again make this man dey tell una story like sey him be Jesus Christ". Capt. Abdullahi heard it, and told the bastard, "Candidate, I am Jesus Christ ba? I will grant you salvation today. Come here!"

Unfortunately for this candidate, German Dose was passing by, so Capt. Abdullahi called him and told him what happened, German Dose was excited to issue him german dose... grin...He bent down, gathered stones together and told the candidate to plant his pot on top of those stones and place his legs on a concrete slab closeby. This particular candidate was very fit, I must confess. He was an Ex-boy and served the job gallantly. But German Dose used a nearby plank to massage his body very well...lol...as soon as German Dose released the candidate, he turn to me (I was sitting right in front of the whole thing), and said "AB08, you! Come here and plant your head", I didnt know when I shouted "Jesus! I don die today!" Everybody burst out laughing, even German Dose. It turned out that he was joking.

After this day, and the fact I usually sit in front because of the numbering of my name tag, German Dose took particular notice of me.

The day we were evicted from NDA, as we sat in the Drill shed preparing to leave, German Dose walked up to me and, with a most warm and sincere smile, told me "AB08, I want to see you in course 45. Is that clear? You have to use this your muscles to carry RPG for the Army. Is that clear?". He left me with a ray of hope.

Sadly, as I sat at my table on Wednesday this week, I got the news that German Dose has paid the supreme price. I learnt he was the Major that was killed in an ambush by Boko Haram 2 weeks ago, alongside several other soldiers.

Maj. SG Abdul, we appreciate your service and sacrifice. May God grant you eternal rest and give the family and coursemates you left behind the fortitude to bear your demise. Amen

Those memories overwhelmed me when I heard of his death. I just had to let them out. We will NOT mourn for men like him. Instead, we will be grateful men like him lived. I am sure he didnt go down without a big fight. Those Boko Bastards must have felt it too.. angry

Rest on, Warlord!
