Fashion / Habits To Form For Whiter Teeth by Prettymundne(f): 7:31pm On Sep 18, 2019
Hello readers welcome to another blog post, so today we are going to talk all about whiter teeth. Normally it is recommended to see a dentist at least three to four times yearly and part of the things dentist do is help you with teeth whitening.

Things are pretty hard in Nigeria and the fact is that the average Nigerian can't afford to go to a dentist that's a fact. There are certain measures you can take even though you don't have the luxury of visiting a dentist as often as you would like just to make sure your teeth remains healthy.

Today the focus will be on the measures you can take for whiter teeth, I of course am not a dentist but these are just measures I found works for me and others I know.

STAY AWAY FROM DARK DRINKS AND FOOD(PREVENTION): This I was actually doing sub consciously because I just never liked dark drinks ever. What I mean by dark drinks are mostly drinks with dark colors like black tea, coke, coffee, beverages e. t. c, so basically anything that contains caffeine. The dark colors in these drinks tend to cause yellowing your teeth. People who drink a lot of coffee if you notice have really yellowish teeth.

BAKING SODA: Baking soda has really good way to whiten your teeth over time, it is a good abrasive agent and wipes off surface

Fashion / Tips To Prep Your Natural Hair Before Going To A Nigerian Salon For Your Next Pr by Prettymundne(f): 4:21pm On Sep 06, 2019
So today's post was inspired by a recent salon visit I had, I honestly hate going to salons in Nigeria and this is because most of them focus more on the hair styles and not your hair itself.

The whole reason I finally decided I was going natural was because I had spent almost a year trying to grow and keep my relaxed hair healthy, it had grown really long and for some reason I was just too tired to relax my hair myself and even though I was scared I still went.

My hair was so damaged that I decided I won't relax it again or at least will never go to a salon to do it.

READ THE REST HERE https://www.prettymundne.com/2019/09/tips-to-prep-your-natural-hair-before.html

I hardly do long term protective styles honestly, I mostly really enjoy rocking my natural hair styles but once in a while, especially when I know I may not have the time to properly look after my hair, I do opt for long term protective styles or just wear wigs. I personally am not a huge fan of wigs, I just don't like the idea of someone seeing a hottie in the morning and seeing someone else later on and be shocked, so I rather be the same person all day. That being said wigs are honestly the best way to go when you want to give your hair some rest.

If you are like me however and you like braids and sew in hair extensions, please there are certain steps to take before you go to the salon for that next braid appointment or sew in appointment in Nigeria.

PICK WELL: First rule is go to a stylist that listens to you and you feel is easy to talk to.

PLAN AHEAD: keep in mind that the preparation for your salon visit will require some time to make sure everything is in place. I like to plan a week ahead so I am not overwhelmed, so you do not use one day and destroy six months of haircare.

DIY: Do your regular WASH DAY routine at home, It is honestly never advisable to take your natural hair for washing at most salons, except you are going to salons that specialize in natural hair. Most salons in Nigeria don't have that patience or time to properly treat your hair well to minimize breakage. So make sure you shampoo your hair well firstly, In fact when I know I am going to be braiding or doing a sew in, I pre-poo (even if with a hair oil), shampoo, condition (just to enable me detangle) and then deep condition, basically the whole shebang.

Fashion / Natural Hair Styles To Try This Season. by Prettymundne(f): 4:11pm On Sep 06, 2019
I am honestly getting so bored of seeing so many people with natural hair out here on these streets with one constant natural hair style which is the high puff.

There are so many other styles you could rock as a naturalista or curly hair girl and one secret most people don't know is that these styles stretch out your hair and separate your coils as well, this prevents more breakage and also stops that top knotting that we 4c girls get a lot. In essence most of these styles actually do your hair more good that harm, as a matter of fact I will advice that you do them more often than you do your high puffs.

TWIST OUTS:

The first will be twist outs, weather it is the three strand twist or regular twist outs they are a good way of styling your hair while stretching it out and preventing top knots as well, therefore reducing breakage.

Fashion / Hair Tools Every Texturized And Curly Hair Girl Should Have. by Prettymundne(f): 5:07pm On Sep 03, 2019
A big question I often get is what I will say are must have curly hair tools or products, for products it is easy I always say conditioner, but I decided to make this post just to share a few hair tools that I can literally not do without and I really believe every curly girl should always have.

Satin bonnets and pillowcases are my number one, sometimes even when I am not sleeping most especially when the weather is harsh like the Harmattan season, I often wear this just to help trap in the moisture in my hair and keep it locked in, this is basically the work of a satin bonnet and or pillowcase, it makes sure all that moisture u just applied doesn't go to waste, it basically locks in that moisture and prevents frizz. I can tell the difference between when I apply a leave in or moisturizer to my hair and cover with a bonnet and when I don't, my hair just looks richly moisturized and just yummy. So number one on my list is a satin bonnet or pillowcase or both.

The second on my list will have to be a wide toothed comb, please if you have hair weather it is relaxed or natural or whatever get a wide toothed comb, this cost like 150 Naira there about. Whenever you want to detangle your hair with any comb, the first comb to go in with is a wide toothed comb just to minimize breakage as much as possible.

Fashion / Tips To Make Your Makeup Last All Day, For Those With Oily Skin. by Prettymundne(f): 5:25pm On Mar 07, 2019
I got the idea for this blog post from a customer of mine who came to buy the maybelline fit me matte foundation (and yes I do sell this foundation at just 4500 and if you are in Abuja you will get free delivery), she said she wanted to get into the whole slay game but that from past experiences with her oily skin and makeup she was afraid to try again. Whenever I wear makeup people always ask me how my make up stays on all day despite the fact that I claim to have really really oily skin.

Today's post is dedicated to oily skin people like me who want to wear foundation and slay their makeup but feel like their oiliness will get in the way. please read to the end of the blog post, every tip counts.

CLEANSE

I made a whole post about the importance of the type of cleanser you use for your oily skin, you can check it out here. Avoid cleansers and soaps that are super harsh or better still avoid actual bar soaps completely. This will make your face drier and cause you sebaceous glands to produce a lot of oil. This specific johnson's baby wash is my fave as well as the neutrogena pink grape fruit but please read this post here for the only condition to which you can use the neutrogena pink grape fruit facial scrub.

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR TONER

This step I only recommend if you have used a very mild face wash like the johnsons face wash but I will advice you avoid if you used a cleanser with an active ingredient. because this may make your skin too sensitive. ACV helps to shrink your pores and reduce oil production as well as fight against any active pimple you may have.

HOW TO DIY ACV TONER

GET A CLEAN SAUCER.
ADD TWO PART WATER TO EVERY PART ACV. I.E I DO HALF A TEA SPOON OF ACV AND A TEA SPOON OF WATER.

Fashion / 6 Most Affordable Long Lasting Foundation For Oily And Sensitive Acne Prone Skin by Prettymundne(f): 12:09am On Feb 03, 2019
Welcome ladies and gentlemen, actually welcome back ladies but if you are a guy and you are on here, it's okay there is absolutely no judgement...lol,

I have been meaning to make a blog post like this for a while now. I have really oily and acne prone skin like my regular blog readers know, and when choosing a foundation, its not only about the brand or its coverage ability, it is also important for me to get a foundation that will hold it's own against the huge amount of oil my glands produce on daily basis..lol. It is also really important for me to use a foundation that will not cause me any more pimples because I do have really sensitive and acne prone skin.

The first is the maybelline fit me matte and poreless foundation and it is my best affordable foundation in the market today. I absolutely love it, the foundation cost anywhere from 4000-5000 naira and this is also a good dupe for the estee' lauder foundation.

The second is The covergirl trublend matte made foundation is number two on this list. I also have a review of this foundation up on my blog and even though this is just as good if not even better than the maybelline matte and poreless foundation, this has the number two spot because unlike maybelline the foundations, this is a little harder to find in Nigeria. It cost about 5000-6000naira and it is worth every penny.

To purchase this you could check Instagram and online store, just make sure they are legit.

Fashion / Due To Extreme Rhinophyma This Patient Cannot Properly Breathe Through His Nose by Prettymundne(f): 9:29pm On Feb 02, 2019
So rhinophyma is a form of rosacea which commonly occurs in men. It causes the skin around the nose to become enlarged and bulbous. The nose may look red, swollen, and distorted.

Although the exact cause of rhinophyma is not known. what is known is that the risk factors for rosacea are.

Being male
Caucasians are also more prone to have this.
Being middle aged or having a family history.

Although people have assumed that high intake of alcohol and caffeine can affect it. There is no proof of that yet but then again there is no proof that dairy causes acne but as I said in my last post about my acne cutting down on my dairy consumption really did help me a lot, so it may be worth a try.

Fashion / Salicylic Acid, benzoyl Peroxide Or Retin A.. Which Is Best To Treat Your Acne? by Prettymundne(f): 4:00am On Jan 29, 2019
If you are here, I believe like me you have battled with the question. What is the best acne or pimples treatment available in Nigeria, fear no more, I am here to the rescue (so melodramatic).
Basically the major over the counter treatments available for pimples or acne are
SALICYLIC ACID
BENZOYL PEROXIDE
RETIN A

we will be analyizing all three and you can try to figure out what works for you. PLEASE READ THIS POST TO THE END.

RETIN A AKA RETINOL:

This works by exfoliating the heck out of your skin, it clears out dead skin cells really fast and so the idea is, it makes your acne or pimples heal really fast.

The issue with retin A or retinol creams available for treatment of pimples in Nigeria is the fact that it is not very great for people with sensitive skin. Retinol creams are usually either of a low grade or of high grade and if your skin is really sensitive getting the low grade retinol cream is a bad idea and sadly those are the ones widely available in Nigeria{LIKE THE ONE IN THE ABOVE PHOTO}, but if you have acne but your skin isn't sensitive this is a great buy, it will deal with both with you acne and hyperpigmentation at the same time.
It comes in different strengths 0.025, 0.05, 0,1%
Retin A also usually comes in either cream or gel form. I advice getting the gel form if you have oily skin and also starting from the lowest strength and work your way up.

SALICYLIC ACID

This is another acne treatment widely available in Nigeria. Neutrogena products dominate the Nigerian market.

Read the rest here and find out what will cure your acne for good.

Fashion / Maybelline Fit Me Matte And Poreless Vs Super Stay Foundation For Oily Skin. by Prettymundne(f): 8:16pm On Jan 26, 2019
I have really oily skin and whenever I hear that a foundation is matte or claims to have superstay, I tend to want to gravitate towards it. I bought the maybelline fit me around the time it came out and I absolutely loved and still love it

When the superstay foundation came out, it was advertised to be a better version of the maybelline fit me and I have since wandered if it is better or worse than the maybelline fit me and if you are reading this, you probably are too. You can buy the maybelline foundations in Nigeria at your local beauty supply store or if you live in Abuja and will love to get the fit me foundation for 4500 only and free delivery, 07085091017 and watsapp only.

SIMILARITIES BETWEEN THE MAYBELLINE FIT ME AND SUPER STAY.
They are both matte.
They are both oil free.
They are both the same size.
The shade range of the maybelline fit me is better than the super stay.

Read the rest here and know which is truly better, read before you buy any of them.

Fashion / Best Face Moisturizers Available In Nigeria, For Sensitive Skin. by Prettymundne(f): 1:24pm On Jul 29, 2018
Contrary to popular belief, acne /pimple prone/sensitive/oily skin needs to be moisturized find out why here HERE. Being someone who has suffered and recovering from acne, my struggle led me to try out so many products including moisturizers found here in Nigeria (find out what cured my acne here HERE). I realized early on that moisturizers do not only calm your acne but also makes your face appear less oily, yes less oily. The trick is finding the right moisturizer, especially if you have acne prone or sensitive skin and the best part is that most of these products can be gotten in Nigeria.

This is my holy grail moisturizer, it is hands down the best I have tried so far, it came in an acne treatment kit which I got from acne.org, and it has been so good to me, I love that it contains liquorice which is really soothing to the skin and is also good for scaring as well. This moisturizer is very light weight but still gets the job done, it is also hypoallergenic and non comedogenic (meaning it is good for sensitive skin and wont clog your pores). This isn't found in Nigeria though but as mentioned here HERE it can be easily shipped to you here in Nigeria.

Cetaphil is very similar to acne.org in my opinion, it is just a plain moisturizer with no harsh chemicals, and is perfect for acne prone and sensitive skin.

Fashion / Maybelline Fit Me Matte And Poreless Foundation Honest Review by Prettymundne(f): 10:32am On Jul 28, 2018
For a very long time, I have been avoiding the use of foundation because I have very oily and very sensitive skin. When I saw this Maybelline fit me matte+poreless foundation and the reviews it got I was still skeptical about it because Nigerian weather is quite different from the weather in UK and USA, but then cost was about $7 which was about 2,500naira, so I took the risk and tried it out.

I bought the Maybelline fit me MATTE+PORELESS foundation from amazon.com and sent it through a family member who came on holidays, but a lot of stores carry it in Nigeria.

In Nigeria this foundation can cost anything from 4500-6000naira.

The first thing I noticed was how yellow the undertone of this foundation was which, I didn't mind at all. I always prefer more yellowish than reddish undertones.

WHAT IT SAYS ON THE MAYBELLINE FIT ME MATTE +PORELESS BOTTLE

SHADE: 340 CAPPACINNO
CLAIMS: Mattifies and refines pores(makes your pores appear smaller)
Matches natural tone
Natural seamless finish
N.B: contains parabens

HOW I APPLY IT
I apply ponds powder first. Then apply the foundation using a stippling foundation brush and then set with a powder.

MY HONEST REVIEW
PROS
Demi matte finish, it is matte but not so matte that it proves difficult to blend, if you have oily skin this is a good foundation for you.
The widest variety of foundation shades I have ever seen, so even the lightest or darkest person will find their shade.
The packaging is lovely.

Fashion / Nivea Express Hydration Or Natural Fairness, Which Is Better? by Prettymundne(f): 3:38pm On Jul 18, 2018
Todays post is not just a review but also a comparison between the nivea express hydration and nivea natural fairness lotion. I have used their lotions in the past but stopped and I cant quiet remember why. I was looking for a new body moisturizer last year and came across this again and saw that the packaging had changed and so I decided to try it.

EXPRESS HYDRATION FOR NORMAL SKIN WITH SEA MINERALS.

It is a very light moisturizer
Its fast absorbing
The ultra light formula absorbs in seconds and leaves your skin soft and supple immeadiately
The formula with sea minerals supplies you with moisture all day.
Ingredents: Aqua, Glycerin, Dicapryly ether, Alcohol Denat., GlycerylstearateSE, IsopropylPalmitate, CetearylAlcohol, GlycerylGlucoside, MarisSal, Dimethicone, SodiumCarbomer, Sodium Cetearyl Sulfate, Phenoxyethanol, Linalool,Sodium Cetearyl Sulfate, Phenoxyethanol, Linalool, Benzyl Alcohol, Limonene, Citronellol, Parfum.

It is in a 400ml bottle and it truly is fast absorbing, I got this during the harmattan season (low humidity) in Nigeria last year for 1500 naira because I needed a moisturizer that would not just moisturize my skin but will not be very greasy and this definitely did that for me. I didn't even need to add any sort of oil to this to make this any moisturizing. I would say though that once we started to get into the sunny season, it kind out started to get me really sweaty.

MY VERDICT

If you have dry skin or live in a place with low humidity (dry air) and don't like greasy moisturizers this is definitely a great option and it is also very affordable.

Fashion / Best Cleansers For Acne Prone Skin by Prettymundne(f): 3:30pm On Jul 18, 2018
Contrary to popular belief, the type of cleanser, soap or face wash you use on your oily, sensitive and/or acne prone skin is very important, and there are so many amazing and safe brands of cleanser/washes readily found in Nigeria or any part of the world.
Oily skin is caused by over secretion of sebum(oil) and because of the presence of large pores on the skin of most people with oily skin, this oil peeks through really well and could sometimes get really embarrassing, a great way to reduce oil on the skin is by USING THE RIGHT MOISTURIZER for your type of skin.
Acne and oily skin was something I dealt with for a really long while, but thank God I finally found what cured me. I will share with you from personal experience how you can possibly manage your oily and acne prone skin. While there are so many myths surrounding acne and also so many little things we do that aggravate our acne choosing the wrong cleanser can set you 10 steps backward on your journey to healthier skin.

WHAT IS IMPORTANT WHEN BUYING CLEANSERS FOR ACNE PRONE OR SENSITIVE SKIN IN NIGERIA

The first key to choosing the right cleanser is one word "GENTLE", stay away from cleansers aimed at acne prone skin because most of these cleansers will contain harsh ingredients which will further over dry your skin, thereby triggering your sebaceous gland to produce more sebum. Go for basic cleansers that have no active ingredient.
Another thing to look out for is parfum or fragrance, this is especially for my sensitive and acne prone sisters, parfum can greatly aggravate your acne(but if your skin isn't so sensitive then you should be okay).
If you follow my blog regularly, you would remember what I said about acne and soap, products containing soap base can be overly drying to the skin thereby triggering your sebaceous gland to compensate for the dryness which will cause your skin to be overly oily.
Go for cleansers that are oil free

LIST OF CLEANSERS FOR OILY AND ACNE PRONE SKIN.

The Johnson's top-to-toe no more tears baby bath is my best cleanser/face wash that can be found in the Nigerian market, it cost just 2000 naira and I got mine from the sahad store in Abuja Nigeria and I do not regret it. It is in a 500ml bottle and is the exact dupe for the acne.org cleanser.

Fashion / Skin Care Routine To Treat Acne In Nigeria, How I Cured My Chronic Acne by Prettymundne(f): 5:52am On Jul 16, 2018
So after my 7 Nigerian myths about acne and pimples post I got a lot of questions as to what exactly it is I do in my skin care routine to treat my acne.
I have already stated in the post I made about how I cured my horrible acne, but I still feel the need to make a post about my exact skin care routine to treat my acne and also my dietary routine to help with acne in Nigeria, it is possible even as a Nigerian to treat your acne.
Many people who talk about how to treat acne do not talk out of their own experience, but do so to sell some product in fact they may have never suffered from acne before. MY MORNING SKINCARE ROUTINE TO PREVENT ACNE/PIMPLES.

How I wash my face to prevent acne

In the mornings I like to keep it simple, I simply wash my face with a gentle cleanser of my choice, for now I have been using my johnsons' baby wash or my olay sensitive face wash but I made a post about all the gentle cleansers I use here just incase you can't find this one and they are all available in Nigeria.
I use it with my spin brush set and I use the latex sponge in the mornings.
Secondly I moisturize my face with a moisturizer that is perfect for my acne prone skin, I use the acne.org moisturizer and I made a post all about where and how to get it. But there is a list of moisturizers perfect for sensitive skin all available in Nigeria on my blog, Please avoid using the same cream for body on your face if you have sensitive and acne prone skin. Moisturizing your skin is very important especially if you have oily acne prone skin as moisturizers help reduce the oil production on your skin thereby preventing acne and pimples, I too did not believe it till I started doing it. Find out how important moisturizers are for oily skin and acne prone skin on the blog.
That's all for my morning routine.

MY NIGHT TIME ROUTINE TO PREVENT ACNE

Please note that at night is when the skin has the time to rejuvenate itself, so this is the time to apply whatever treatment you have to your skin. My night time depends on one of two things.
