I got my ILR.
10 year route
1 year - Student visa
5 years + tier 2
4 years Spousal/partner
Hopefully I will get my passport in January. Then I can start applying for jobs abroad.
I did not apply for my ILR on tier 2 because I was naive. I was at risk of redundancy with barely 2 months to my ILR and the company wouldn't give me a letter without stating that I was at risk. I didn't feel comfortable applying with that on the letter so I canceled my appointment and when I failed to get another sponsor and not enough time to find a decent job in Nigeria, I applied for a spousal visa which reset my timeline.
In hindsight, I should have applied and I would have been granted it, saving me thousands of pounds in application fees and NHS surcharge. More painful is the fact that I had considered moving back home in the earlier years but got to the point where going back without at least ILR was not logical. Hopefully I find a good role back home or somewhere near grin, Amen.

Congratulations.

The risks attached to Tier 2 visa has not been discussed on this forum. Hats off to those that are on this route.

I know many people that were underpaid but just had to stick with it just because the company offered sponsorship. I remember a friend who was offered sponsorship by a tech company straight after university but less than a year later, he was asked to leave the company. He struggled to get another sponsor with the 90 days grace period and he had to return to Nigeria.

The risk of redundancy, "offending" your bosses, not meeting productivity targets, misconduct, saying or doing something that's not politically correct, not scoring well during yearly appraisals. . . I can only imagine the prayers, constantly thinking about a plan B and uncertainty people on this route sometimes have to go through. . . .

Hi everyone, I have a question to ask. I am the main applicant and I recently got married, now I want to submit an application for spouse visa for my husband but will it raise a concern since all my applications bears my family last name and not my husband’s surname. Thanks

No. It won't raise a concern. All you need to do is include your marriage certificate and wedding pictures.

Hello everyone, i need a better advise and judgement. I will be coming to the UK in 2022 for my masters, the enrolment will soon start. I studied Agric. in my Bsc but have been working in IT related fields since i graduated. I will be piking one of the below three courses:

DATA SCIENCE
CYBER SECURITY
CLOUD COMPUTING

I have passion and love the 3 but i only have to pick one and i want to do it based on availability of employment in the UK after graduation. If you are in my shoes, which course would you advise and reason why

Thanks

You can't go wrong with either data science or cloud computing.

Both links you posted are actually very informative.

1. If you leave UK after the end of a valid visa and come back before 6months with another valid visa.
The less than 6months of absence counts towards 10 years continuous stay.

2. Visit visa also counts towards the 10 years.
Now I am wondering if someone comes 5 months at a time and do so for 10 years will they be granted ILR??

Information is power. Like I said, this has been the case for years but a lot of people do not know this (Asians including Indians do though tongue). This option is used mostly by those that are a few days or months shy of clocking 10years continuous legal residence.

@bolded - it won't count. border control will also flag the person and there is the risk of deportation. Visiting and staying for 5months at a time over a 10 year period is a massive red flag. You can't justify spending 10months in a year as a "visitor" in a country over a 10 year period.

Huh?

How can you get continuous stay with visit visa?

Asking for a friend

You cannot get ILR based on just visting the UK in and out for 10 years. Its not possible. Remember that for ILR, you must not have been out of the country for more than 180 days and you must not have broken any immigration rules. Eg. Recourse to public funds, illegal worker, etc.

This option works best for those that have visited the UK prior to obtaining student visa and are using a combination of visas to attain 10 years. It also comes in handy for those that are few months short of attaining 10 years. They leave the country and apply for a priority visiting visa and return back to the UK.

I know people that have gotten ILR by adding visit visa as part of their 10 years continous stay, so I'm 100% sure this is possible.

Ok...thanks. although this story is totally different

How is it totally different?

Did you read the story at all ? The person was out of status for a while but the fact remains that he was granted ILR based on the fact that his time in the UK on a visit visa was counted.

Read the second link I posted. I don't have time for back and forth.

Please how does visting visa count...I am curious

It does. 100 percent certain. It has always counted as far back as 2006.

I'm too lazy to Google and share examples but you can check the post below:

Grreetings All.

Please kindly help me

1. I live in France and would like to apply for a visa for my mum from Nigeria. She has visited once in January 2020.

2. However, I would also like to apply for a UK visa for her so that we can go to the UK for a short visit from France.

3a. Which is better? To apply for the UK visa from Nigeria or France?
3b. Is it necessary to include in the UK application that one of her daughters (my younger sister) lives in the UK ? My sister has nothing to do with this visit. It's purely I (Nigerian passport, so I'll also apply from France. I have had 4 visas so far), my husband (French) and my daughters (French passport).

4. I hope to apply for her visa for France for arrival in January.

5. Thanks for your guidance.

Why not just apply for a visa for her to visit you in France first and as soon as she receives that, you can apply for the UK visit visa whilst explaining your travel plans.

She can't apply from France for a UK visit visa because France is not her country of residence/domicile.

bros, i am a novice too. When people were talking about making money on crypto and stocks, I just went on my Revolut and started buying shares from reputable companies like microsoft, apple in short, FAANG companies bit by bit. Also, the fact that I can buy stocks with as low as 5 pounds.
From there i moved to Freetrade which is a standard stocks and shares trading platform. I also started watching Sasha Yanshin on youtube who gives good insight to what he is personally doing. For example, I got to know about Lucid from him around Aug this year and bought 200 shares when it was $18, today Lucid is $51.I bought Tesla whenit was $450 and it's now $1156, i only have 4. I wishI had started years back.

As per crypto, I started on Revolut as well, and I was putting few coins in bitcoin and ethereum. Now I have moved to coinbase. I have some money in ethereum, Dogecoin and Shiba. With shiba, I could have become a millionaire if i had bit the bullet and put 2k in it around April. I only bought £60 worth which turned out to worth £1400 in Oct.

***with crypto, you should only put money you can afford to lose.

I think oga Lexus is the OG on this parole.

Thanks for the detailed explanation.

I have been setting aside funds for another buy to let. I might just consider alternative investment and see how it goes grin

I avoid crypto like a plague.

This is my current watchlist. If I had a spare £35,000 minimum I don't need right now and I could afford to lose it all, I would invest £5000 in each of these companies and leave it for 5 years. £35,000 should more than double to £70,000 minimum in 5 years time.

Thanks - what platform(s) do you use for investing in stock?

Depending on the month and year your child is born, he/she might not be eligible for primary school until the child is between ages 4years 6months and 5years 6 months.

Children in Scotland start primary school later than those England but finish secondary earlier, so it ties up on both sides of the border.

Good morning house. How are you all doing? My brother got an offer from a big 4 accounting firm in the UK but the role he is being offered is less than the role he is applied for due to his professional qualification. However, in Nigeria, he works for a big 4 accounting firm and should be a manager in a few months time. The naira equivalent of what he will be paid in the UK is almost same with what he currently earns in Nigeria. Is it worthwhile for him to accept the UK offer considering he has a wife and 2 children. Thanks house.

I agree with those that have advised you reject the offer.

Its best you stay back in Nigeria, attain the manager role whilst working on your ACCA.

As soon as you get the promotion, you can start reapplying. I'll suggest you strip the location of the Big 4 from your CV and just have the name of the Big 4. If asked during the interview which country you worked, then you can mention Nigeria and reference any global end client you worked with (if any). Do not be surprised that the reason why you have been offered a role lower than what you applied for (which i find rather insulting) is because you have Nigeria on your CV, even though you are working for a company that's well known around the world with offices in literally every continent.

The minimum you should accept is the same grade level you were in Nigeria and your take home pay (when converted) must be higher than your take home pay in Nigeria.

I also disagree with those who say Big 4 don't pay well. Salary negotiation skills is key with these companies and you must bring something niche/unique to the table.

Finally, don't just focus on the Big 4. Financial services is such a huge employment of labour in the UK - redirect your job search to banks (big banks, challenger banks), investment companies, insurance companies and fintechs with interest in financial services (e,g. paypal, revolut)

750k is a lot of money and the lender will go through great lengths including blacklisting you with other banks to get their money back from you.

I will suggest you lodge a police report, write a letter/email of complaint (i'll suggest you do both) to the bank's HEAD OFFICE, EFCC and CBN.

I don't think you realise the seriousness of this fraud that has been committed using your details.

I will advice you name the bank and the branch where this occurred.

I'm surprised the staff was not dismissed and reported to EFCC rather than transferring him to another branch.

Hello in house Doctors,My niece got hit by hot boiling water on her stomach and leg late yesterday night when her mum was about to bathe her, details from her are still sketchy as this was the only thing she said when she called early this morning on the phone....

The ambulance took them to where she was given birth to but was rejected and they were referred to another hospital in another city where they were hurriedly taken away in an helicopter to an emergency in the referred hospital...

PLS WHAT HER CHANCES AND HOW CRITICAL IS IT ?...Searched the internet to get informations that will give me some hope and make me calm but found nothing yet

The only positive is they are not in a Nigerian hospital where medical attentions are delayed but in Europe....

pardon my errors and typos

What part of Europe?

Chances are really high that the hospital will involve the police and social services.

I hope nothing fatal happens to the baby and it was genuinely a mistake. The family will need plenty prayers.

Family / Re: My Mum's Constant Insult Is Driving Me Crazy, It Is Time To Move Out? by Ralphlauren(m): 3:51pm On Sep 14, 2021
Juliusdaughter:
Let me just start somewhere angry
Growing up as an introvert was difficult cos I guess my mum didn't understand my quite personality, she talks about how I am not 'sharp' how I am not fashionable and whatever else she cannot really relate to. I am in my mid 20s now and she still insults me when she is in the mood.
It's funny how I am the only child she insults so much, I am her first born. I left my former work place due to Corona last year and I've been home since. I have trained as a tailor tho I don't have a shop or customer base yet.

She insulted me tonight again for cooking dinner late, she said why should I finish cooking dinner by past 7? Called me names and all that. Its been over a year that she went to the market last because I now do that, I make breakfast and dinner, I don't keep late night, I barely go out, yet she finds reason to talk me down.

She has started to insult my fiancé now too, she says he is poor and cannot take care of me, what has he achieved for himself? And the reason she isn't much against us is because she doesn't know if he will have money tomorrow. He isn't even jobless, it's just unfortunate that government don't pay their workers on time.

I don't have a single emotional connection with her, I have tried and I have failed. I think it's time to move out of the house and start my tailoring business. I don't have the finance to rent a shop and a house separately, so I want to rent a room and parlor and make it both my living and work space. Is this a good move? I cannot function properly in this house anymore.
How do I build my customer base from working in the house?

open an Instagram account and add as many of your friends as possible including those from university and your place of worship.

advertise your business on Instagram and offer to sew as cheap as possible.

advertise your work on Instagram with pictures of dresses you have sewn.

go and buy cheap ankara, have someone measure you and sew these dresses for yourself. wear them, have someone take lovely pictures and post on Instagram using trending hashtags. Slowly but surely, you will grow your customer base.

I would like to know which airline one can fly from Nigeria to UK trying to avaoid BA as much as possible. He reach to almost pay school fees grin.

KLM and airfrance seems to be the logical one to take, but there's this confusion about needing transit visa or not. Has anyone flied them recently?

https://www.klm.com/travel/ng_en/campaigns/nigeria_flight_schedule.htm

Transit visa is mandatory unless you hold visit visa for countries like US and Canada. Read up on both airlines website. I understand people from Nigeria have not been allowed to board as they are unaware of this requirement. The rules changed in January following the end of the transition period for uk's exit from the EU.

I believe this has also led to a spike in the number of people choosing to travel with the likes of Qatar.
