Foreign Affairs / Re: US To Withdraw From Niger As Security Pact Fails In Strategic Victory For Russia by wirinet(m): 12:59pm On Apr 21
CSTRR:
China for all their noise, started to develop under Deng Xioping.

Who is Deng Xioping?
He was a brilliant administrator who opened up china to western investments, after decades of closure to the world which started under Mao.

Western investments and companies flowed in , and china became rich.

That's the story of china. It became rich because of America.

But somewhere in West Africa, countries are closing themselves to the west.
But China also closed itself to the west for centuries. When China opened up, it only restricted western trade and influence to a few port cities. China was at no time completely subjugated and overwhelmed by Western culture and influence.

The West had shown and still shows pure disdain and disregard for West Africa. Meanwhile we worship and adore them. We swallow all the insults and disdain with pride as long as they give us aid and Visa.

Please watch this interview by Harold Smith on why they handed power to the north through fraudulent elections and census. They prevent competent and patriotic leaders capable of developing the country from rising to power and promote mediocre and corrupt unpatriotic leaders, who bring their countries into ruin. This was the same situation all over west Africa.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2gSbMescYwc?si=1nd1g5TCnsz8x8df
The seeds of that fraudulent election and census remains with us till today, and are factors that will never allow nigeria rise above its current mediocre state.

I decided to post the full interview to reveal the plans of the British for nigeria at independence.

Investment / Why You Should Support Your Job With An Online Skill As A Nigeria (A MUST READ) by BIGDAWGss: 9:57am On Apr 21
Having an online skill can significantly enhance your career prospects, regardless of your current job or location. For Nigerians, the benefits of integrating online skills into their professional lives are even more pronounced due to the dynamic nature of the job market and the evolving digital economy. Here are some compelling reasons why you should consider supporting your job with an online skill:

YOU CAN START LEARNING ON HERE- https://www.smartonlineearner.com/

1. Increased Job Security
in nigeria, like in many other places, the job market can be unpredictable. Industries that seem stable today may face challenges tomorrow due to, regulatory changes, or technological advancements. By acquiring online skills, you can diversify your abilities and make yourself more valuable to your employer. Skills such as digital marketing, data analysis, or web development can make you indispensable as they are critical in helping businesses adapt to new technologies and market demands.

2. Improved Earning Potential
Online skills are often in high demand and command higher salaries, not just locally but globally. As a Nigerian, learning skills like software programming, graphic design, or digital content creation opens up opportunities to work for international clients. Freelancing platforms like Upwork, Fiverr, and Freelancer allow you to connect with clients around the world who are willing to pay well for high-quality services. This can significantly boost your income beyond what traditional local jobs may offer.

3. Flexibility and Convenience
One of the greatest advantages of online skills is the flexibility they offer. You can work from anywhere, at any time, as long as you have a computer and internet access. This flexibility is particularly beneficial in nigeria, where commuting can be challenging due to traffic congestions in major cities like Lagos and Abuja. With online skills, you can choose to work from home, reducing travel expenses and saving time—resources you can redirect into more productive activities.

4. Entrepreneurial Opportunities
Online skills provide the tools you need to start your own business with relatively low startup costs. Whether it's starting an e-commerce store, offering freelance services, or launching a digital marketing agency, the internet lowers many of the traditional barriers to business ownership. This entrepreneurial angle is especially crucial in nigeria, where the spirit of entrepreneurship is vibrant, and many are looking to business as a pathway to personal and financial freedom.

5. Continuous Learning and Relevance
The digital world evolves rapidly, and staying updated with the latest trends and technologies can keep you relevant in the workforce. Many online courses offer the chance to keep learning and growing, ensuring you remain competitive. Platforms like Coursera, Udemy, and LinkedIn Learning provide a wide range of courses that can help you stay ahead in your field or even pivot to a new one.

6. Networking Opportunities
Online skills open up global networking opportunities. Participating in online forums, social media groups, and virtual conferences can connect you with industry leaders and peers from around the world. These connections can be invaluable for collaborative projects, finding mentors, or discovering new career opportunities.

Conclusion
For Nigerians, integrating online skills into their professional toolkit is not just an option—it’s a necessity in an increasingly global and digital marketplace. The ability to adapt, learn, and leverage the internet can provide job security, increased income, flexibility, entrepreneurial opportunities, and continuous personal growth. If you haven’t yet considered which online skill can support your career, now might be the perfect time to start exploring your options.

nairalanda1:
Because it is the nature of the beast called subsidy

Why did Gej remove subsidy partially in 2012? Because subsidy costs tripled in 2011 compared to 2010. And it was not because government bad, it was because the high oil prices then meant it cost more to refine one liter of fuel and thus subsidy costs were rising by the day. Something had to give

And he would have kept it removed if it wasn't for Nigerians being to blind to see. And tinubu and buhari doing bandwagon things.

I'm surprised you have forgotten the grumbles around GSM in the first five years.

Looks like you support subsides remaining.

I don’t support subsidies remaining.
I am against politicians like Fayemi and his A-looter ProgreThief Congress, APC fellows scamming us with their propaganda lies you are repeating here.

Do you see the difference

Omooba77:
A former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, on Tuesday, said the protest that trailed the fuel subsidy removal during the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan in 2012 was due to political interests.

Fayemi said this in his keynote address delivered at a national dialogue organised to celebrate the 60th birthday celebration of the founding National Secretary of Alliance for Democracy and Fellow, Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, Professor Udenta Udenta in Abuja.

The programme was attended by Jonathan, former Minister of Education, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili; former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, among others.

The PUNCH reports that on January 1, 2012, President Goodluck announced the removal of fuel subsidy and adjusted the pump price of petrol from N65 per litre to N141.

The decision sparked mass protests, tagged ‘Occupy nigeria’ across major cities of the country.

The price was later re-adjusted to N97, after more than a week of protests.

Petrol price was later reduced to N87 in 2015.

Jonathan faced serious backlash for the fuel price adjustment, especially from leaders of the All Progressives Congress, who were then in different opposition parties, including the defunct Action Congress of nigeria, Congress for Progressives Congress, All nigeria Peoples Party, and All Progressive Grand Alliance.

While condemning what he described as the “winners take all” style of nigeria’s democracy, Fayemi said the challenges facing the nation today cannot be solved unless the country embraced proportional representation, where the spoils of elections are shared between contestants.

According to him, the last time nigeria experienced economic development was during Jonathan’s administration

Politics / Re: IMF: Why We Asked Nigeria To Remove Fuel Subsidy by Johnjustice: 8:38am On Apr 21

USA does not subsidise healthcare for all it's people. Instead, you pay health insurance companies premiums to do so, and even then the copay can leave an American in debt. Yes there is something called medicare, but it is for means tested poor people , not everyone, and you can be dropped by your hospital if you carry it as it does not pay much

Education at primary and secondary level is paid for via taxes. Which everyone pays. Unlike nigeria where we pay for everything via oil money which ain't sufficient. University is paid for via loans . That have to be paid back. Noting like subsidies . Maybe you may pay less of you choose to attend your state college. Maybe.

Food is not free for Americans. Unless you are very very poor, meaning you receive some assistance. Ie food stamps. Food costs money there.

Transport? Not that subsided. Public transport is good in some major cities, in other places it is so bad that if you do not have a car , wahala dey

USA does not subsidise fuel at all. Infact prices of fuel have tax added on top in some states self. Maybe the government may pay some money to the refineries there to help with costs.

Free salaries? Lol. Maybe welfare which isn't available to all, and is heavily funded by taxes.

Better take IMF advice serious.
Now I see you are an educated slowpoke, and blatant liar, America pays unemployment and welfare checks till tomorrow to its citizens, born Americans that are either disabled, unemployed or too old to work...stop sounding like an ignorant. Subsidy doesn't mean free, it means government is investing some part of public revenue, either in form of concessions, tax waivers, investment etc, to make products and services cheaper(this is the work of government, or you want the politicians to keep all the revenue to themselves...only a politician or one of their stooge like that type of arrangement, because more money goes to their pocket)

I don't like engaging people that are not intelligent about what they are saying, but on a second thought, for the sake of enlightening the public....i will give a little lesson.

Tell me what benefit nigeria has had since we started collecting IMF loans, with it's bunch of conditionalities.

IMF trade conditions is about trade liberalization and open borders, this means once you sign up with them, you will allow EUROPEAN imports into your country, without restrictions... knowing fully well that this model favors their advanced economies in Europe...they have more factories, equipments, produce more at a cheaper rate(economies of scale).

I suggest you read up on IMF conditionalities...Do you know what open borders agreement is, that was what turned nigeria to an import dumping ground, IMF will insist you open your borders for imports, knowing the Europeans already have the advantages of production in large scale, hence we become the buyers, and consumers, from then till now, we became lazy and as our population grows, it gets harder to bridge the gap between our production and consumption, hence our imports volume keeps going up from then till now. If we didn't sign up for this, we would have been serious about production when we had a smaller population, our economy would have grown, people more prosperous. IMF is not a blessing to us, IMF represents the European world powers, it is a lenders club, Paris club, their aim is their interest. We need home grown solutions to home grown economic issues.

I don't blame you imf I blame our political actors, who are lazy, we have an economic team, why listen to imperialist IMF?

You are 100% correct.
I also came to this conclusion by watching Youtube videos of Ghana pranksters online.
I was shocked to the bones about how SIMPLE and FREE (plus the beauty of course) Ghana women are.
Ghanaian society is about 50 to 100 years more civilized and freer than Nigerian society.
Don't take my words, just watch videos of Accra or other cities streets (people walking about), and watch Nigerian cities for comparison.
Women in Ghana are far freer (from societal and religious gags) than Nigerian women.
One can find a 60-something year old woman in Ghana in tight trousers walking freely on a busy street without problems, unlike in nigeria.
Nigerians believe that sex is the only problem in the world. Yet nigeria lacks all essential infrastructure.
Ghana can produce and distribute 24/7 electricity while nigeria cannot, with all the countless religious houses everywhere.
I think that hypocrisy and religious extremism is making Nigerians miserable in nigeria.
Ghana is a free, calm, safe, jolly-good, easygoing, civilized African country.

I share your sentiment 100%. They seem to be more laid back, natural and feminine. They will tell you the truth without and fuss.

Culture / 1836 British Drawing Of Benin Kingdom VILLAGE With Storey Buldings! by Tellmeastory: 8:44pm On Apr 20
This is NOT ancient Benin City, which in its heyday of the 15th and 16th centuries, was hailed by visiting Portuguese and Dutch traders as being one of the most beautiful and best planned cities in the world. (See link below)

https://www.theguardian.com/cities/2016/mar/18/story-of-cities-5-benin-city-edo-nigeria-mighty-medieval-capital-lost-without-trace

This is in fact a VILLAGE far outside Benin city. It was drawn by British visitor, Mary Evans in 1836.

This was a full 61 years before the British invasion of the Benin kingdom in 1897.

AND 78 years before 'nigeria' was born (in 1914).

As you can see, we had multi-storey buildings, with sophisticated roofing and ventilation systems in VILLAGES before the colonial era.

Yet we have this image that they all lived in muds huts with thatched roofs.

WHY?

We have been seriously miseducated about our past.

It looks even better than many parts of our country today.

Who knows how far ahead we would have been today absent of colonial invasion and disruption of our civilisation.

If our villages looked like this nearly 200 years ago, how might they have looked TODAY, without European invasion?

Maybe like WAKANDA!

This is why we say that colonialism did not bring civilisation to nigeria.

It took away our civilisation, and replaced it wIth vagabondism.

Jokes Etc / Power: 13,000mw Instead Of 200,000mw Unacceptable, Says Obi by Benwallt(m): 3:51pm On Apr 20
Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general election, Mr Peter Obi, has expressed deep concerns over the perennial power situation in the country recording 141 times of national grid collapse in 11 years and calls for urgent pragmatic solutions.

Obi said nigeria has only 13,000mw while the demands are about 200,000mw.
He said even with the 13,000mw, only about 3,500mw are available for homes and businesses noting that the situation puts nigeria as the lowest per capita wattage in the world.

in an article, titled: “The Collapsing Electricity Sector”, the LP standard’s bearer said, “The nigeria electricity supply industry faces real and present danger of collapse despite the efforts made in more than two decades to initiate a reform of the NESI.

“It is sad today that we suffer periodic and routine system collapses that are attributed to such avoidable situations as fire outbreaks at critical transmission lines across our major cities. It is absolutely distressing and a story of a low level of managerial capability that the entire nation can be plunged into total darkness for a reasonable period because networks go out because of a lack of diligent attention.”

A statement by his media aide, Yunusa Tanko, said: “It should worry any Nigerian patriot that the total installed capacity for a country of more than 200 million people with an aspiration to become a global medium economy power is a mere 13,000. Worse still, only about 3,500mws are available for homes and businesses from the grid. Sometimes, it grinds to less than 2,500mws. This is unacceptable.

“We can contrast the available supply of electricity with competitor countries in Africa like Egypt and South Africa with respective populations of approximately 112m and 59.6m people supplying about 60,000mw and 58,000 respectively. This difference in energy wattage has massive implications for human development and economic growth. nigeria today has the world’s lowest per capita wattage in the world, interestingly lower than those of most of our West African neighbours. It is really sad that whereas our energy demand is above 200,000mws, we have only 13,000mw installed capacity and can only deliver less than 4,000mw regularly.

“After speaking with experts in the sector I have realized that the crisis of power supply in nigeria relates to two major sectors: (1) generation, and (2) transmission and distribution. The major challenges of the generation sector are the lack of a regular supply of gas arising from the failure of the government in the last 8 years to provide adequate gas infrastructure facilities, weak commerciality of gas to power and failure to control the restiveness of angry youths leading to vandalism.

“It is shameful that for more than 8 years we cannot resolve the infrastructural bottlenecks that constrain the supply of gas to power plants despite billions from CBN for legacy gas debts.

“On the transmission and distribution side, the last 8 years have witnessed terrible failure to overcome the deterioration of networks and transmission and distribution networks and invest in modern technologies like SCADA leading to poor coverage, lack of effective coordination between TCN and discos leading to load rejection and inability to generate public trust for policy reform on tariff and leading to low private sector investments.

“If we had a good project manager, we would have massively increased generation, transmission and distribution capacity and enhanced policy coherence that would have crowded private sector investment in the degree to sustained rapid growth of the grid. The problem is that the government has exercised the required political will to appoint the right kind of leadership that understands the problems of the sector and has the singular dedication and competence to create quick wins in the short term and transformation in the medium to long term,” he said.

Nonsense.

Stop showcasing all these corrupt government bullies that are only good in killing and bullying unarmed Nigerian civilians.

These uniformed bullies do not defend any Nigerian except the privileged serving politicians and their own immediate relatives maybe. They are working for their corrupt pockets not to defend suffering, dejected, dehumanized Nigerians.

Nigerians will only respect all Nigerian military formations, Police and security outfits the very day they stop being corrupt, stop killing/bullying Nigerian civilians and focus on ending all forms of terrorism, banditry, robbery and kidnapping that have made the lives of average Nigerians a living hell.

Tell me the job of all these corrupt uniform showing off government bullies when terrorists/fulani herdsmen militants/bandits are invading Nigerian communities on a daily basis killing and kidnapping Nigerians for ransoms?

You can no longer travel from one state to another in nigeria without engaging in serious fasting and prayer and even preparing your will ahead.

Just like General T. Y Danjuma said, nigeria has become a laughing stock to other nations of the world just because our so called security outfits cannot put an end to the endless killings and kidnappings of Nigerians on a daily basis.

Please stop worshipping these mediocre uniform men we have in nigeria, all they are after is salary increase, allowances, unmerited promotions for dehumanizing Nigerian civilians, how to loot security budget, how to steal money in the name of buying arms and ammunition, and how to help kidnappers kidnap Nigerians and get their own share and then come to cities to drive recklessly with brazen sirens to intimidate civilians.

Nigerians have lost respect for all Nigerian security, in fact, they are the most hated group of people in nigeria, good for nothing people who allow corrupt politicians to be using them anyhow thereby losing their respect and integrity.

Politics / FG Begins Price Enforcement In Abuja, Targets Lagos, Others by Ijeoma660(f): 7:55pm On Apr 19
18th April 2024

The Federal Government on Thursday initiated sporadic enforcement raids at multiple supermarkets and markets within the Federal Capital Territory to ensure adherence to price display and quantity regulations, aiming to reduce the cost of food commodities nationwide.

It also said it would continue unannounced inspections at super and open markets in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Kaduna, and Ibadan in the coming weeks to probe the abnormal price surges and take firm measures against any companies caught engaging in unfair market practices like price manipulation, excessive pricing, or cartel formation.

The Executive Secretary of The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, Dr. Adamu Abdullahi, said this when he conducted an enforcement exercise to eliminate grocery store price gouging and illegal pricing schemes.

During the exercise that lasted several hours, the FCCPC sealed 4U Supermarket and evacuated 33 bags of fake stallion and caprice rice filled with weevils from one of the branches of the same supermarket located at 58 Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent, Wuse II.

Earlier on Wednesday, the commission had ordered its operatives to intensify monitoring of both formal and informal markets to identify businesses engaged in unnecessary inflation of prices for required enforcement action.

This move is a direct response to concerns raised by consumers about the rising costs of goods, which go against the recent strengthening of the naira.

Food inflation has been a recurring issue influencing the steady increase of nigeria’s headline inflation of 33.2 per cent, recording an unprecedented food inflation rate of 40 per cent in March 2024.

It was exacerbated by the extensive fall of the naira against the dollar in January and February leading to the soaring prices of essential goods and services, raising the costs of living costs to an all-time high.

Although the presidency had vowed to continue its campaign against racketeers, urging Nigerians to expect a stronger naira, a significant drop in the prices of essential commodities was elusive.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, told The PUNCH that the president had directed consumer protection agencies to ensure that the local prices reflect the rising value of the naira.

“But there is still much work to be done and this is not a time for celebration. It is a time for doubling down and working harder to ensure that inflation is sustainably brought down in short order.

“Consumer protecting regulatory agencies must step up enforcement to ensure that our people are not short-changed by enterprises that fail to reflect the prevailing exchange rates on the pricing of goods and services across the board.

“As our private and publicly-owned refineries resume operations between now and the first quarter of 2025, the nation’s cash position will dramatically improve to the extent that Nigerians can rightly expect a stronger Naira and a fair reflection of its strength in the prices of commodities in the market place,” said Ngelale.

The Presidency also assured Nigerians of the better days ahead saying the benefits of the reforms will be “more evident” as the administration progresses.

“Once you join the rising spending power of Africa’s largest population with the historic availability of trillions of naira for consumer credit that will bolster the real sector, you will see why Nigerians will be most pleased that they elected a financial engineer and businessman as president by the end of his first term in office, even as the signs are increasingly more evident today,” the Presidential spokesman stated.

Responding to the charge, the FCCPC boss in an interview with PUNCH Online stated that the commission was deeply concerned and that the practices of the supermarket were injurious to the consumers despite a stronger naira and reduced cost of production.

He said it was specifically uncovered that a supermarket, 4U, was selling rice from Stallion and Caprice, although these companies ceased rice production in August 2022.

It was also discovered that the prices of some products on the shelf were different from the prices at the selling point, while some products had no price tag at all.

Abdullahi further explained that necessary sanctions would be meted out to culpable persons after investigations.

On February 16, FCCPC sealed Sahad Stores, a supermarket located in the Garki area of Abuja for engaging in “misleading pricing and lack of transparency in pricing.”

He said, “This exercise is in continuation of our efforts to ensure that prices in the market reflect what is displayed. Nowadays we have found out that there is a lot of pretence in what’s happening especially for markets around the major cities in the country.

“You have seen what we have done earlier with other supermarkets and sealing them but despite these efforts, some supermarkets still engage in this practice. You go to a shelf, and the product displayed is different from what appears when you come to pay at the counter.

“That is not acceptable because you have frisking consumers, and some of the items don’t have price tags attached to them at all. So, you are at the mercy of whoever is operating the counter. You can input whatever price you want there, and that’s not acceptable.

in addition, we found out another thing that baffles us. Nobody knows that stallion group which has been comatose for a very long time is still in the market. What’s happening is that some people bag their local rice in the pretence that it is the same stallion or kappa that people are used to that people are buying, which is wrong. You are still frisking consumers, you’re collecting from them what is not due because what you pretend to be selling is not what you’re selling and that is bad.

“Essentially, we are evacuating all the rice and they would come to explain to us how they got that rice and we would get to the root of it, we would take necessary sanctions as appropriate with the Act establishing FCCPC.”

A cursory look at the 2018 Act (section 69) of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection stated that any person or company found culpable will pay a fine of N50m or 10 per cent of its annual turnover.

Section 69 read, “A person who violates any of the provisions of this part commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding N50m. A Body corporate that violates any of the provisions of this part commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding 10 per cent of the turnover of the Body corporate in the business year preceding the date of the commission of the offence.”

Continuing, the FCCPC boss announced plans to introduce a price tracker to put an end to the extortion of Nigerian consumers by major supermarkets in the country.

According to him, the Commission has also concluded arrangements to raid some open major markets in the country beginning from the FCT this Friday to checkmate the arbitrary increase in prices of consumables by some traders through their Market Unions and Associations.

“We can’t go to the all supermarkets at the same time due to our staff strength. We will be going to other general markets from tomorrow (Friday) and you will see us in the open market what we want to do is find out what associations are doing about it.

“Cartels are not allowed in our law and we will make sure that food and commodity prices come down in this country this is part of the effort to ensure both formal and formal markets comply with the rules of engagement. The dollar has come down and prices of goods must also come down.

“Yes, this is happening in Abuja in the meantime but the last time we carried out the operation in Port-Harcourt and Lagos. This time around, Kano is on our radar. We would go to Kano, Port-Harcourt again, Lagos, Ibadan, and Kaduna and these are places that we have to check out first and other states would follow.

“There is going to be what we call a price tracker and it will be domiciled with the Bank of Industry and it will take off at the beginning of next week. in that way, we can track the prices of commodities across the country and whenever there is any hike in products we would find out why and if it is not worth it, we would know that there is hanky panky and we can stop it fast,” Abdullahi added.

in an interview with newsmen after the raid, the General Manager of the Supermarket, Yunusa Yusuf, who took responsibility for the fake foreign rice promised to expose the suppliers.

Yusuf, however, pledged to henceforth abide by FCCPC regulations on consumer rights to avoid future occurrences.

Landmass and population sir

Obosi is second most densely populated area in nigeria after Lagos

Try this your last statement with me again and you'll learn🙄
Madam calm down.

I can't argue about land mass because there's no official survey measurement to back the claim.

But hope you know that both cities are not mate in terms of revenue.

Main market, Head bridge, Iweka and some other markets are in Onitsha. Onitsha have river access (River Niger)

All those population in Obosi (Awada) where are majority of them (over 70℅ ) heading every morning for business?

Remove Onitsha, and there will be no Obosi city. Not even a complete city yet

Politics / FG Enforces Prices In Abuja Supermarkets, Plans Lagos, Port Harcourt Visits by adenigga(m): 7:45am On Apr 19

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission on Thursday carried out an enforcement raid at two supermarkets in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, to ensure adherence to price display and quantity regulations.

The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Dr Adamu Abdullahi, said the exercise targeted at reducing the high cost of food commodities nationwide, would be extended to Lagos, Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Kano, Kaduna and other cities in the coming weeks.

Abdullahi said unannounced inspections would be carried out at stores and open markets across different states as part of measures to control the abnormal price surges which had failed to respond to the appreciation of the naira in recent weeks.

The FCCPC boss further disclosed plans to raid some open major markets on Friday (today) in the FCT to checkmate the arbitrary increase in prices of consumables by traders.

During the exercise that lasted several hours, the FCCPC sealed 4 Supermarket and evacuated 33 bags of suspected fake stallion and caprice rice filled with weevils from one of the branches of the same supermarket located at 58 Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent, Wuse II.

Earlier on Thursday, the commission had ordered its operatives to intensify monitoring of both formal and informal markets to identify businesses engaged in unnecessary inflation of prices for required enforcement action.

The move was in direct response to concerns raised by consumers about the rising costs of goods, which go against the appreciation of the naira.

Food inflation has been a recurring issue influencing the steady increase of nigeria’s headline inflation of 33.2 per cent, and an unprecedented food inflation rate of 40 per cent in March 2024.

The situation was exacerbated by the extensive fall of the naira against the dollar in January and February leading to the soaring prices of essential goods and services, raising the cost of living to an all-time high.

Although the Presidency had vowed to continue its campaign against racketeers, urging Nigerians to expect a stronger naira, a significant drop in the prices of essential commodities has been elusive.

in a statement on Thursday, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, disclosed that President Bola Tinubu had directed consumer protection agencies to ensure that the local prices reflect the rising value of the naira.

The Presidency also assured Nigerians of better days ahead, saying the benefits of the reforms will be “more evident as the administration progresses.’’

Responding to the charge, the FCCPC boss in an interview with The PUNCH on Thursday stated that the sharp practices of the supermarkets were injurious to the consumers despite a stronger naira and reduced cost of production.

He said the 4U supermarket was selling rice from Stallion and Caprice, even though these companies ceased rice production in August 2022.

It was also discovered that the prices of some products on the shelf were different from the prices at the selling point, while some commodities had no price tags.

Abdullahi further explained that necessary sanctions would be meted out to culpable persons after investigations.

He vowed to take firm measures against companies caught engaging in unfair market practices like price manipulation, excessive pricing or cartel formation.

On February 16, the FCCPC sealed Sahad Stores in the Garki area of Abuja for allegedly engaging in “misleading pricing and lack of transparency in pricing.”

Speaking on the ongoing operation, Abdullahi said, “This exercise is in continuation of our efforts to ensure that prices in the market reflect what is displayed. Nowadays, we have found out that there is a lot of pretence in what’s happening especially for markets around the major cities in the country.

“You have seen what we have done earlier with other supermarkets and sealing them but despite these efforts, some supermarkets still engage in this practice. You go to a shelf and the price displayed is different from what appears when you come to pay at the counter.

“That is not acceptable because you are frisking consumers and some of the items don’t have price tags attached to them at all. So, you are at the mercy of whoever is operating the counter. He can input whatever price you want there, and that’s not acceptable. That’s why we’re here so that practice should no longer continue.

in addition, we found out another thing that really baffles us. Nobody knows that stallion group which has been comatose for a very long time is still in the market. What’s happening is that some people bagged their local rice in the guise that it is the same stallion or kappa that people are used to that people are buying, which is wrong.

“You are still frisking consumers, you’re collecting from them what is not due because what you want to pretend to be selling is not what you’re selling and that is bad. It is when people get home to cook that they would see they bought something else.

“Essentially, we are evacuating all the rice and they (4U Supermarket) would come to explain to us how they got that rice and we would get to the root of it. Both the producers and baggers are culpable and we would take necessary sanctions as appropriate with the Act establishing FCCPC. Every violation has its sanction and we would look at our books along with them.”

Section 69 of the FCCPC Act, 2018, states, “A person who violates any of the provisions of this part commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding N50m. A body corporate that violates any of the provisions of this part commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding 10 per cent of the turnover of the body corporate in the business year preceding the date of the commission of the offence.”

Due to the limited staff strength, Abdullahi noted that the commission would target select stores and open markets during the enforcement exercise.

He added, “We can’t go to all supermarkets at the same time due to our (limited) staff strength. We will be going to other general markets from tomorrow (Friday) and you will see us in the open market and what we want to do is find out what associations are doing about it.

“Cartels are not allowed in our law and we will make sure that food and commodity prices come down in this country and this is part of that effort to ensure both formal and formal markets comply with the rules of engagement. The dollar has come down and prices of goods must also come down.’’

Continuing, he stated, “Yes, this is happening in Abuja in the meantime but the last time we carried out the operation in Port-Harcourt and Lagos. This time around, Kano is on our radar. We would go to Kano, Port-Harcourt again, Lagos, Ibadan, and Kaduna and these are places that we have to check out first and other states would follow.’’

The FCCPC boss announced plans to introduce a price tracker to address the extortion of consumers by major supermarkets in the country.

“There is going to be what we call a price tracker and it will be domiciled with the Bank of Industry and it will take off the beginning of next week. in that way, we can track the prices of commodities across the country and whenever there is any hike in products we would find out why and if it is not worth it, we would know that there is hanky-panky and we can stop it fast,” Abdullahi added.

in an interview with newsmen after the raid, the General Manager of 4U Supermarket, Yunusa Yusuf, who took responsibility for the fake foreign rice, promised to expose the suppliers.

He pledged to abide by FCCPC regulations on consumer rights.

The president of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Gabriel Idahosa described the move as shocking and an overreach of the powers of the FCCPC.

Idahosa further stated that it did not fall within the purview of the government to regulate the prices of products in the market.

He said, “That is a very crude behaviour. The government, at any point, should not fix prices for any products. Any person who has done business knows that when there is a change in the price of your inputs, you need to sell whatever you have at the old prices to sell your stock before you go and buy at the new prices and then be able to sell at reduced prices to customers.

Consumers should not expect any immediate reduction in prices. Replacement costs of those products that are in the warehouses and markets are what the market will have to sell because the price at which they bought it must be fully recovered before they can go and buy at new prices.”

On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of the Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise, Muda Yusuf faulted the FCCPC. He emphasised that raiding the marketplace to enforce prices fell outside the jurisdiction of the commission.

Yusuf said, “That is ridiculous. What kind of crude action is that? That is price control. It is not their business.”

Also speaking, a facilitator with the Nigerian Economic Summit Group, Ikenna Nwosu, said.

2.) A Republican TPUSA ambassador proud of her daughter saying the N word.

This is America

That is indeed America, where some are afraid of being replaced. It's probably because they are afraid of reaping the results of having replaced others themselves.

People in America might not understand why the likes of Stephen Christopher Yaxley-Lennon end up in jail so much. It's because, unlike America, we learn from our past and from that of other nations, and we generally stand up for our neighbours regardless of race or gender or tribe etc.

I'd say London is like the crown jewel of cities and the last place to expect a brown/black foreigner to be mayor in. Yet here we are with Muslim Sadiq Khan as Mayor, and Hindu Sadiq Khan as Prime Minister of UK, and Muslim Humza Yousaf as First Minister of Scotland, and Zambia born Vaughan Gething as First Minister of Wales. And none of them are white.

This, is indeed Great Britain. And all that's needed is a Muslim from Northern nigeria to lead in Northern Ireland so I'd be able to say 'This is United Kingdom' too.

We do not have the legacy of slavery and black oppression that USA has, so any official using the N word will immediately be disofficialised.

It's even a crime to unofficially direct it's use to a person of colour (as some describe us).

Properties / Mastering Rental Property Investments In Nigeria by DeDonniesHomes: 4:07pm On Apr 18
Investing in rental properties in nigeria can be a lucrative venture, offering a steady stream of passive income and long-term wealth accumulation. However, navigating the complexities of the Nigerian real estate market requires careful planning and informed decision-making. in this guide, we'll delve into the essential steps and considerations for buying rental properties in nigeria, including insights into the current market dynamics, financing options, and strategic investment locations.

Is Buying Rental Property a Good Investment in nigeria?
Investing in rental properties in nigeria presents compelling opportunities for wealth accumulation and preservation. Unlike other investment avenues such as stocks or mutual funds, rental properties offer tangible assets that appreciate over time, providing a hedge against inflation. Additionally, rental income from properties can serve as a reliable source of passive income, allowing investors to diversify their portfolios and mitigate financial risks.

Choosing the Right Time and Location
Timing and location are critical factors in rental property investments. With nigeria's rapidly growing population and substantial housing deficit, there is a persistent demand for affordable housing across various demographic segments. This demand creates an opportune moment for investors to capitalize on the thriving real estate market.

When selecting an investment location, consider areas with low crime rates, robust infrastructure, and thriving economic activity. cities such as Lagos, Abuja, Kaduna, and Port Harcourt offer promising investment prospects due to their vibrant economies and growing populations. in Lagos, areas like Lekki-Epe, Ibeju Lekki, and Ikorodu stand out as prime locations for rental property investments, boasting attractive rental yields and significant appreciation potential.

Steps to Buying Rental Property in nigeria
Engage Reputable Real Estate Agents: Partner with experienced real estate agents or utilize reputable online listing platforms to identify suitable rental properties that align with your investment objectives.

Conduct Due Diligence: Perform a comprehensive property title search to verify the authenticity of ownership and ensure there are no encumbrances or legal issues associated with the property.

Execute the Transaction: Upon identifying a viable investment opportunity, proceed to negotiate the terms of purchase and finalize the transaction by signing legally binding documents, including receipts, deeds of assignment, and survey plans.

Perfect Property Title: Obtain the necessary approvals, such as governor's consent, and register the property title at the appropriate land registry to secure your ownership rights and prevent potential disputes in the future.

Financing Options for Rental Property Investments
While cash transactions are common in nigeria's real estate market, investors can explore alternative financing options to facilitate property acquisitions with minimal initial capital outlay. Mortgage financing and structured payment plans offer viable pathways for acquiring rental properties with little money down, enabling investors to leverage their investment capital and optimize their returns over time.

Conclusion
Investing in rental properties in nigeria holds immense potential for wealth creation and long-term financial stability. By adhering to sound investment principles, conducting thorough due diligence, and strategically selecting investment locations, investors can unlock the full benefits of rental property ownership.
