Too many liars on here. A typical SHO in the U.K. makes about £3000+ a month and this is after taxes, National insurance, and pension contributions have been taken out. Then if they wish to work locum in A&E, they’d earn about £50/hour which for a normal 8hr shift is £400 or £280 after taxes. This is just one free day in a month.

Interestingly, when I was sent for my A-level, I ended up buying a lottery ticket back in 2005 with the change at a local supermarket. I bought about 4 tickets with a jackpot of about £9m. Whilst gisting with my father, I informed him about what I had done and he rebuked me rather harshly. Later on, I was told by the store clerk that the lottery commission informed them that someone had bought the winning ticket. Excitedly, I called my father and told him what had happened. He sounded so excited and offered to come to the UK to help me claim the winnings, set up a fund etc only for me to tell him that I had thrown the tickets away after his rebuke. The man wan cry. Truth is that sometimes, ignorance also drives the misinformed.
A lot of Muslim countries use the lottery as a means of social development and to fund hajj trips. The sin is in treating the lottery as a means of income.

About the essential services act, it is not similar to the military act. There is NO compulsion as it is not captured in the act. Any good and competent lawyer can quash this in the court of law. No medical worker should handle patients without full PPE and without salary being paid(how do they get to work without transport fare ?).
