Politics / How NASTOGRN Is Shaping The Landscape Of Nigeria's Oil And Gas Industry by Spiritualism: 11:50am On Apr 03
How NASTOGRN is shaping the landscape of Nigeria's Oil and Gas Industry

By Edwin Emeka Aboh

Following the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government last year, many independent petroleum marketers who experienced low patronage as a result of the high cost of transportation fares across the country decided to shutdown operations, leaving room for only few industry players to operate.

But one unfortunate development witnessed was the fact that the few marketers could not meet the yearning demand of the vast majority of users in the rural areas.

For example, when the government said the official pump price of petrol should be between N617 and N660 depending on the location, it was discovered that those in the rural areas were buying petrol at higher prices because the policy framework of the regulatory agencies did not favour the activities of small and medium scale retailers.

Again, the regulatory agencies pegged the minimum threshold for the issuance of operating license to 33,000 litres but it failed to understand that most retailers were only struggling to stay afloat until last year's policy pronouncement by the government.

So, those who could not generate enough fund to purchase the 33,000 litres are either allowed to face the crushing harassment of the the law enforcement agencies or fizzle out of the business.

This was the debilitating experience of small and medium scale operators in the industry until the attention of the Chairman, Board of Trustees and National President of the National Association of Surface Tank Oil and Gas Retailers of Nigeria (NASTOGRN), Chief (Dr.) Marcus Okotete was drawn to the situation.

Though NASTOGRN has been solving the various needs of small and medium scale operators in the downstream sector before fuel subsidy removal last year, but the activities of the group became more pronounced following the intervention of the association's board.

As of today, discussion between the association and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NPRA) as well as the Nigerian Upstream Regulatory Commission (NURC) aimed at reducing the basic requirements for the granting of operating licenses to it's members from 33,000 litres to 100 litres have reached advanced stage.

The association is also working hand in glove with relevant authorities to make the establishment of tank farms and mini-depots for products storage easy for old and new members.

The association has established a database to ensure the inclusion of all members, both old and new as beneficiaries of any government assisted programme.

The association is also working in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investments to lower to cost establishing the business in the rural areas as well as encourage the establishment of surface tank calibration and fabrication centres across the federation.

Because of the dogged fight of the Board Chairman and National President of the group, Chief (Dr.) Marcus Okotete, the association has more than 30,000 members in all the 8,812 wards across the federation and it is expected that the number will continue to increase as more people would be joining the group to enjoy legal backings for their legitimate businesses.

Coalition Hails Ex-Governor Ugwuanyi @ 60

The leadership of Enugu Youth Coalition has congratulated the immediate past governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi on the occasion of his 60th birthday anniversary.

In a statement released to newsmen in Enugu on Wednesday by the national coordinator of the coalition, Dr. Edwin Obune, the group said, former governor Ugwuanyi is a perfect gentleman whose rich legacies in the state will continue to speak for him in many years to come.

The group noted that the quintessential qualities and detribalized attributes of ex-governor Ugwuanyi is what is needed in the contemporary Nigeria to stabilize the system and solidify the bridge already built.

Adding that ex-governor Ugwuanyi is a man who is committed to the cause he believed and will never look the other side even when the temptations are overwhelming.

These are the rare qualities that we are proud to identify with on the occasion of the 60th birthday of the former governor.

APC Group Hails NASS for Successful Screening of Stella Okotete

APC League of Professionals has commended the National Assembly for the successful screening of Hon. Stella Okotete for ministerial appointment in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration.

In the statement released to newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday after the Senate screening of Hon. Stella Okotete, the national publicity secretary of the group, Mr. Brown Justice said, the Red Chamber has shown that the hallowed chamber is not an institution for influence pedlars or narcissistic elements who sees nothing good in others but has upheld the believe that the NASS is a strong pillar of the third arm of government that is ever-ready to defend the interest of the Nigerian people; especially the 35 percent affirmative action for women as espoused by the Beijing Women Conference of 1995 which the nominee has been upholding.

The group also hailed Mr. President for his unyielding support and confidence in the ability of Hon. Stella Okotete to help him deliver the Renewed Hope Agenda of his administration to the Nigerian people.

Noting that Hon. Okotete has displayed uncommon capacity as Executive Director in charge of Business Development in the Nigerian Export- Import Bank which we believe she would replicate such feat as Minister with larger capacity.

Leave Stella Okotete Alone - APC Group Warns Mischief Makers

The leadership of APC League of Professionals has warned mischief makers and 'Bad Belle politicians' to stay clear from Hon. Stella Okotete who is a ministerial nominee for the would-be cabinet of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement released to newsmen in Abuja on Saturday by the national publicity secretary of the group, Mr. Brown Justice, the group said, we are aware that some heavy weight politicians from a particular part of the country were hoping and expecting that they would be the ministerial nominees from that zone, but when divinity intervened by chosing a young lady who has done wonders in the Nigerian Export - Import Bank as Executive Director in charge of Business Development, these group of persons went up in flames against her by sponsoring all sorts of dubious publications against her achievements.

These elements connived with some vested interests within the NEXIM Bank who are opposed to the many transformative reforms introduced by Hon. Stella Okotete to write fictitious and fraudulent petitions against her ministerial nomination before the Nigerian Police Force and the National Assembly.

The conspirators failed to realize the fact that Hon. Okotete has been able to grow the non-oil sector of the Nigerian economy to enviable heights; thereby reducing our dependence on oil and gas to be the country's major source of foreign exchange earner to the barest minimum.

Therefore, we call on the National Assembly, the Nigerian Police Force and the Nigerian public to ignore the frivolous petitions against Hon. Okotete as that is the handiwork of vested interests and political desperatoes who don't want any other person except them to rise from nothing to something.

The question is, why didn't they come up with petitions against her all these while she was the Executive Director in charge of Business Development at the NEXIM Bank but only waited for her to be nominated for ministerial appointment before coming up with various imaginative petitions and false allegations against her?

Have we forgotten that power comes from God? Or does God have to take permission from humans before lifting anyone He wants to lifts?

Therefore, we urge them to accept the nomination of Hon. Stella Okotete as a divine Providence because the Bible in the book of Romans Chapter 9:15-16 made us to understand that "I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion. So then, it is not of him who wills nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy.

Ministerial Nomination: APC Group Hails Tinubu for Nominating Betta Edu

A leading support group of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC Youth Renaissance has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for nominating the National Women Leader of the party, Dr. Betta Edu to serve as minister in his upcoming cabinet.

In a statement released to newsmen in Abuja on Thursday by the national secretary of the group, Mr. Collins Edwin, the group said the choice of Dr. Edu is a welcomed development; noting that her nomination is a clear reward for steadfastness and abiding faith in the party and in Mr. President.

Dr. Edu's loyalty to the party is legendary as she worked out her heart for the success of the party not minding all sorts of provocations and vituperations by the opposition.

Hence, we congratulate Dr. Edu for being a great source of inspiration to the youth and women across the federation by the display of impeccable character and commitment to the success of the party in the last election.

APC Group Lambasts Oshiomole Over Plot to Highjack Edo Ministerial Slot

A leading support group of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC Alliance Network for Democracy has lambasted the former Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomole over plots to highjack the ministerial slot meant for the state.

In a statement released to newsmen in Auchi on Monday by the National Publicity Secretary of the group, Mrs. Elizabeth Suleiman, the group accused the former governor of being inconsiderate and insensitive to the political freedom, balancing and determination as encapsulated by the spirit of 'Emilokan' which Mr. President invoked to win the election despite all the hurdles.

We believe that it is morally bankrupt and ethically unjustifiable for Oshiomole to influence the state's ministerial slot for his Personal Assistant having succeeded in turning virtually all Federal appointments to the state in to a family affair.

For instance, while Oshiomole is currently a serving Senator, his son, Dr Cyril Oshiomole is a Special Assistant to the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Developments Commision (NDDC) on Health.

In the same vein, his younger brother, Mr. Said Oshiomole is also a Special Assistant to the NDDC Commisioner representing Edo state in the Commission.

The Afemai nation is richly endowed with men and resources, but Oshiomole only seemed to be concerned about his family and his Iyamho Uzairue People of Etsako West Local Government of Edo State as most Federal appointments are retained in his village without considering other communities that make up the Affemai nation.

Apart from Oshiomole who is a serving Senator and his family members in NDDC, the Nigerian Ambassador to Mozambique, Barr. Iyamah is from Oshiomole village.

The Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) Representatives for South-South Region, Engr. Stanley Dako is from Oshiomole village.

The Police Service Commision member from the state, Mr. Austin Braimah is from Oshiomole village.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commision (EFFC) Board Member from the state, Mr. Luqman Mohammed is from Oshiomole village.

The Deputy Governor of the state, Comrade Philip Shaibu is from Oshiomole village.

The Benin -Owena River Basin Authority member from the state, Engr. Saliu Ahmed is from Oshiomole village.

All these people are from the same nuclear and extended family in Iyamho Uzairue village of Etsako West LGA of Edo State.

The questions are; where is Federal Character, where is justice, where is equity, where is fairness and above all, where is the spirit of Emilokan?

We believe that the greatest of injustice demands the boldest of action.

Hence, we call on Mr. President to politely reject the ministerial nominee coming from Oshiomole because he has lost touch with the spirit of Emilokan which was symbolized by the resounding victory Nigerians gave to him at the polls.

While our demand is self-evidenced by the fact that other Local Governments that make up the Afemai nation are marginalized, but it is not self-executing.

Therefore, we call on Mr. President to put an end to the unfortunate fate being imposed on other Local Government Areas of Edo State by Comrade Adams Oshiomole.

You Cannot Use False Allegation Against Bawa to Get Tinubu's Appointment or Seek Political Relevance - Group Slams Zamfara Governor

A leading Policy and Strategy Think-Tank known as Aruba Center for Policy and Strategy has lambasted the outgoing Governor of Zamfara State, Mr. Bello Matawalle for leading smear campaigns against the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa.

In a statement released to newsmen in Abuja on Friday by the Convener of the Center, Dr. Ody Ajike Esq, the group said, "Governor Matawalle is a drowning man desperately looking for an opportunity to redeem his rapidly declining political career". The Center said that, "Matawalle should be ashamed that, he levied his people with hardship and pacified Zamfara indigenes with extreme poverty leaving Zamfara as the home with the highest number of documented poor and vulnerable people in Nigeria".

Saying, 'We are not against the strategy of Matawalle positioning himself for a political appointment or relevance in Bola Tinubu's in-coming government after witnessing crushing defeat in his failed re-election bid. He is only trying to cause a collateral damage to anyone on his rapid decline to irrelevance".

Matawalle's pursuit of that finical ambition in this very disastrous way is what we cannot accept from him the group said. The group further said that Matawalle is fronting a kite to avoid being called to account for the years he served himself as Governor instead of the people of Zamfara State.

The group further accused Matawalle of overheating the polity with some reckless utterances in the past few days.

Last week, we read the news on how Governor Matawalle was directing the Federal Government not to allow the CBN Governor to travel out of the Country even when that was beyond his power.

This week, the same Matawalle is making an unfounded allegation against the Youthful and hardworking Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, alleging that Mr. Bawa demanded $2million bribe from him; an allegation he cannot prove.

Matawalle must give an account of what he has done with the resources of Zamfara people that made them the highest documented poor and vulnerable people in Nigeria with poverty rate of 84% and 56% lacking access to water and good sanitary conditions. He should understand that Nigerians are no more interested in pedestrian blackmailers like Bello Matawalle.

Chinedum Orji Remains Abia's Substantive Speaker - Coalition Blasts State Assembly

A leading pro-democracy group known as Democracy Coalition has lambasted the dishonourable action of the 16 disgruntled members of the Abia State House of Assembly for carrying out what it described as 'legislative recklessness' resulting to the kangaroo impeachment of the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Chinedum Orji.

These 16 disgruntled members claimed they signed the impeachment whereas only about 8 members voted. This is laughable and the biggest joke of the month.

In a statement released to newsmen in Umuahia on Wednesday by the National Coordinator of the Coalition, Mr. Michael Williams, the group said any impeachment done outside the State House of Assembly complex is ultra vires as the case law established by the Supreme Court of Nigeria in a case between the Oyo State House of Assembly and former Governor Rasheed Lodoja in 2006 had set a clear precedent in the above matter.

While declaring the impeachment as an exercise in futility, the group called on the state security agencies in the state to arrest these cult of shenanigans for breaching the peace and orderliness of the state.

Noting that the action of the 16 disgruntled members of the state assembly is a clear manifestation of the alarm earlier raised by the Department of State Security that some politicians are trying to scuttle a peaceful transition in the country.

Therefore, as a vigilant pro-democracy group, we strongly suspect that Abia State could be the launchpad for the commencement of activities designed by failed politicians to scuttle peaceful transition and handover of power on May 29.

Again, we call for the quick arrest of these legislative gangsters while status quo is maintained in God's Own State.

Senate Presidency: Throw Your Support Behind Kalu - Group Tells Tinubu

As the political horse-trading over who becomes the 10th Senate President continues, a frontline pro-Tinubu and APC support group known as APC Youths Sentinel has called on the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu to throw his weight behind the aspiration of the former Governor of Abia State and Senate Chief Whip, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu to clinch the position.

In a statement released to newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday by the Northwest Coordinator of the group, Mallam Mohammed Abdulazeez, the group said, Orji Kalu is a tested and trusted colleague of Asiwaju who has displayed capacity to work for Nigerians and defend the cause of democracy just like the President-elect has been doing over the years.

He cited the example of how the President-elect and Senator Orji Uzor as then governors of Lagos and Abia States were both persecuted for their resolute stance against the aborted third-term agenda in 2006 but still went on to deliver their respective states to the opposition in 2007 against the presidential onslaught of the then ruling PDP.

While Tinubu delivered Lagos State to Action Congress of Nigeria ACN, Kalu delivered Abia and Imo States to the newly formed Progressive People's Alliance, PPA and came fourth in the presidential election of 2007.

Since old dogs do not learn new tricks, the President-elect who is the most celebrated politician in Africa for spearheading the coalition that led to the crushing defeat of the then ruling party in 2015 which paved the way for the inauguration of our great party on May 29, 2015 needed a capable and trusted colleague with much hindsight, insight and foresights to lead the third arm of the government for the fast accomplishments of the agenda of the President-elect as the stakes are high.

We hold this to be true and self-evident in the past activities of the two great leaders.

Therefore, there is no better time to enthrone a tested, reliable and proven democrat to chair and lead the 10th National Assembly than now.

Politics / The Moral Burden Of National Security by Spiritualism: 2:24pm On Mar 30, 2023
The Moral Burden of National Security

By Dr. Ody Ajike, Esq.

National security is the protection of the people, preservation of national values, ensuring the protection and furtherance of the national socio-economic and political prosperity and the protection of the abstract State. No State has a life of its own distinct from the lives of the people who constitute the State.

However, in Nigeria, there has always been the neglect and assault on the people who hold the empirical sovereignty. Our national security agencies focus on protecting the regime and the abstract State instead of the people.

The framework of National Security has become so expanded in the 21st Century to include how the inherently fragile structures, processes, elements and attitudes we depend on to prevent a Hobbesian state of nature are politicized to suit the regime and enforce the deep State to the detriment of the people. This politicization of national security is exactly its moral burden. In achieving regime protection, the mechanics pretend to look like people protection. Our greatest challenge therefore, is the attitude of those who look after us. Those who politicize our challenges and tie our circumstances in narrowly defined national interests.

Suddenly, the Department of State Service (DSS) became so interested in warning against attempts by a group to truncate democracy in Nigeria through an interim government. The DSS was never interested in how people were attacked, maimed and obstructed from exercising their civic rights in a democracy? This is laughable for want of a better emotional expression. Does it mean that DSS is not interested in the process that led to the current debacle or they just cherrypick on what to stand for or against?

It is pertinent to note that, the structures, processes, elements and attitudes that govern our national existence from a brutish decline are necessarily not naturally occuring. These are purely fragile and requires very tender and careful management to exist, function and survive. The DSS is unintentionally stressing these very inherent structures with politicization of intelligence and national security. The Service remains the only surviving elite and purposeful national security agency which we must deliberately insulate from politicization.

Micheal Hayden held that, "the craft of intelligence pursues enlightenment values". These values are the centrality of facts and neutrality in the pursuit of broader national interests and values. Therefore, the gradual erosion of these values would threaten the durability of the DSS and the practice of good intelligence. Intelligence shares a duty with truth telling as neutral competent professionals to preserve and protect the ability of the society to function in an equilibrium state. Wherein lies the protective shield for a society that was violated with violence on election day?

The DSS should understand that modern intelligence is not just for our safety but essentially for our liberties. The liberty to choose who to vote for and be voted for. They allowed us to be beaten, raped and maimed. Where is the morality of their warning under the pretext of guarding democracy?

If we continue the politicization of intelligence and security in Nigeria, we shall certainly experience a complete decline of all our national institutions. This decline effectively mirrors the disruptions in our social economy and cohesion. This indeed will be our worst times and we shall be weaker and wounded or permanently disrupted as a people.

Abia: Our Path To The Top

By Dr. Ody Ajike, Esq.

At the outset of the current democratic dispensation, Abians have been levied and pacified with uninspiring leaderships. Predictably, Our worst times will end on May 29th, 2023. From this date, Abians will collectively make great things happen. It is remarkable to note that, four things that devastate people in any political system are wars, natural disasters, economic failures and weak/corrupt leadership. We have faced man-made developmental failures greater than wars, uninspiring leaderships that are greater than natural disasters and abject economic failures triggered by corrupt/weak leaderships.

Our decline featured the worst any people could bear until the enthronement of this new Alexandrian order that will set the stage for prosperous building. In Abia, physical and social infrastructure are non existent or primitive. The public service and social safety nets are in tartars. Public trust in government is non-existent while corruption rates are busting tops across board. School classrooms and medical centers are fit for pigs while internal generated revenues are stashed in private pockets as credit collapse looms or rather existential. In Abia we have a form of boutique government wherein the Governor and his cohorts struggle to make, take and distribute our common wealth among themselves.

Abians are determined to build wealth and power themselves and spread prosperity across board. The new Abia leadership must then focus on education with a technical bias. This will drive competitiveness, innovation and technology, increased productivity, stronger economic output, security and development. However, we must not forget that the incoming government will be faced with significant challenges to its rule but our resilience should ensure we overcome.

It's our ken to support Otti to design an excellent system integrated for meaningful development with a focus on investments, income growth, infrastructure, education and technological innovations. Otti is open to the best thinking in the world and Abians are sure we will become more productive and prosperous.

The end of our pathological socio-political deterioration is here. The end of the predatory economic accumulation of our common wealth is here. The seed of the pathway to our recovery has been planted and this new path will deliver too much, too early to too many Abians. Alex is our path to the top.

Sen Bala Mohammed stormed into Niger, Nasarawa, Kogi and Taraba states with his campaign team in continuation of his breakneck nationwide consultations with PDP delegates and other critical stakeholders. In states after states the leading PDP Presidential aspirant wooed delegates with his passionate and well reasoned policy positions on inclusive governance and intergroup accommodation and understanding as well as his trademark candor on being a well bred party faithful who will accept the outcome of the primary election with grace and uncommon sense of equanimity.

Briefing the media in a follow up Strategic Communication Bulletin Prof Udenta O Udenta, the Spokesman of the Sen Bala Mohammed Presidential Campaign Organization analyzed the mood of the delegates who had thus far listened to Sen Bala Mohammed lay out his case of a new, rescued, rebuilt, renovated and restructured Nigeria simply as “ecstatic”. In Prof Udenta’s words: “with filled out party office after filled out party office, delegates listened with rapt attention as Sen Bala Mohammed unfolded his Nigeria First agenda that seeks to reverse the monumental missteps and horrendous policy failures of the past seven years in the hands of a totally clueless and incompetent APC administration with a new vision of an empowered society that is driven by economic recovery, infrastructural revolution and the wellbeing of the populace”.

Prof Udenta who also doubles as the Ag Director General and Director of Strategic Communication of the Sen Bala Mohammed Campaign Organization stressed that apart from emphasizing his passion for education under the guidance of his Headmaster father, his training as a journalist and his civil service, senate, ministerial and gubernatorial careers which have prepared him for the ultimate national service- The Presidency- Sen Bala Mohammed urged party delegates and indeed the generality of Nigerians to see politics not as a do or die affair with harsh, hurtful, hateful and curse words being thrown around recklessly but as a mature game played by patriots who want to serve their fatherland because as Nigerians we have no other country to call home”.

Prof Udenta further briefed the media that Sen Bala Mohammed’s next campaign stops will include the parts of the South East, North West and the North East not yet covered.

Easter: PDP Stalwart, Ocholi advised Kogites not to cry again as end to their predicament is in view

A stalwart of the opposition People's Democratic Party in Kogi State, Comrade Danjuma Ocholi has advised Kogites not to cry again over the pains the present administration in the state has inflicted on them; saying God has heard their cries and have sent a messiah.

In a statement released to mark this year's Easter celebration in Abejukolo, the PDP stakeholder in Ogodu Ward said, the state has never had it so bad like this before; adding that the military era was quite better than what we currently have in the state.

The PDP honcho who described Yahaha Bello administration as a 'calamity' said, God allowed such fate to befall the state because the people do not appreciate their own.

While drumming supports for Abu Ibro and his team in the forthcoming governorship and senatorial primaries of the party in the state, Ocholi said the time has come for the people to embrace the messiah and the emancipator God has sent to librate the state from the shackles and manacles of the inept and clueless administration in the state.

Comrade Danjuma Ocholi,
Convener of Voice Kogi Youth Forum
