Politics / Re: Appeal Court Adjourns Hearing On Change Of Election Sequence by TheTrueSeeker: 8:16pm On Jul 12, 2018
The current election sequence was done not by INEC but by the NASS so reversing can only be done by NASS period...!!!!

The NASS is an institution and not the individual lawmakers occupying the institution.
Politics / Re: Appeal Court Adjourns Hearing On Change Of Election Sequence by TheTrueSeeker: 8:12pm On Jul 12, 2018
The Constitution empowers the NASS to make and amend any section of the Constitution they deem fit to amend.
The Electoral Act is a creation of the NASS. Election sequence or not they can amend.

Their amendment of the sequence does not guarantee them automatic entry to the NASS. They would have to still participate in general elections after being sponsored by their political parties and primaries.

Telling them not to amend is simply playing sentiments and indirectly denying them their constitutional duties...!!!

Politics / Appeal Court Adjourns Hearing On Change Of Election Sequence by TheTrueSeeker: 5:28pm On Jul 12, 2018
The Court of Appeal, Abuja Division has adjourned hearing in a suit challenging the ruling of a Federal High Court which set aside the amendment of the 2010 Electoral Act.

A three-man panel of the court led by Justice Abubakar Yahaya told the parties in the case on Thursday that a full court would be constituted to hear the suit, as their panel cannot hear the appeal.

The counsel to the National Assembly, Mr Joseph Daudu, said the issue before the court was very urgent.

He told the court that suit torched on matters of the coming general elections and as such, time was important.

Daudu stressed that urgency was much more intense, as not having a pronouncement could make anyone want to challenge the bill.

In his submission, counsel to the Accord Party Wole Olanipekun told the court that there was nothing urgent about the appeal to warrant parties to return to the court when the Appeal Court was headed for its annual vacation.

He, therefore, urged the court to adjourn the case till the next legal year.

In a short ruling, Justice Yahaha adjourned the case till a date to be communicated to the parties, for a full panel to be constituted.

The Federal High Court had ruled in favour of the Accord Party which urged President Muhammadu Buhari not to sign into law the amended Electoral Act Bill 2018.

The court held that the National Assembly lacked the powers to decide on the sequence of the election on behalf of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Since Nigeria returned to democracy, presidential and National Assembly elections have been conducted on the same day before other polls, while the governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections follow.

Lawmakers at the National Assembly had in February amended the sequence such that the National Assembly polls would be conducted first, followed by the state lawmakers and the governors while the presidential election should take place last.

This led to a heated debate in the Senate after which President Buhari wrote the lawmakers in March, informing them that he had withheld assent to the amendment of the 2010 Electoral Act.

The President had stated that the amendment to election sequence in section 25 of the Principal Act might infringe on the constitutionally guaranteed discretion of INEC to organise, undertake and supervise all elections provided in section 16(a) of the constitution.

The immediate past INEC Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, had also challenged the power of the National Assembly to alter the sequence in which elections are conducted.

Politics / Adeosun’s Alleged Exemption Certificate Not From NYSC, Says Ex-director -(video) by TheTrueSeeker: 5:06pm On Jul 12, 2018
A former Director of Mobilisation at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr Anthony Ani, has distanced the scheme from the certificate of exemption allegedly issued to the Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun.

Speaking on the matter in a telephone interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Ani argued that the NYSC could not have issued the purported certificate in question.

“First and foremost, I have to comment based on the documents that I saw,” he said on Wednesday. “If those documents were the documents claimed to have been submitted, I want to emphatically say that no! they wouldn’t have emanated from the NYSC.”

The former director stressed that the NYSC Act had clearly highlighted the process of mobilisation for graduates in the scheme.

He said section 2 of the law embedded under section 315 of the Nigerian Constitution categorically stated that graduates of higher institutions who have not attained the age of 30 must make themselves available for mobilisation.

Ani maintained that it was not for graduates of local and international institutions make excuse but the responsibility of the NYSC to determine those that would be exempted from the scheme.

He said, “According to the law, all those who graduated with effect from 1974, who studied abroad or in Nigeria and you are not above 30 years, at the point of graduation, you are supposed to make yourself available for mobilisation and you will be deployed. If you are above 30, you will be exempted.”

“The other categories of graduates that will be exempted are those who have served in the Nigerian Police or the military for not less than nine months… even if you graduate at the age of 20 and you are in the U.S. and you have not made yourself available to be mobilised, whenever you come back even if you are 60 years, you have to undergo the NYSC,” the former NYSC director insisted.

The national youth service is a compulsory scheme for all Nigerian graduates who have not attained the age of 30.

A report which went viral recently had claimed that Mrs Adeosun failed to participate in the service and supposedly obtained a fake exemption certificate.

But the NYSC had confirmed in a statement on Monday that the minister applied for an exemption certificate.

“Checking our records, Mrs Adeosun did apply for an Exemption Certificate. We shall investigate the origin of the purported exemption certificate in question,” the NYSC said in the statement by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Adeyemi Adenike.

Also reacting to the controversy, the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, noted that “NYSC is part of the government and I have nothing to add to what the NYSC has said.”

Politics / Re: Fayose Was Never At The Scene When The Police Fired The Tear Gas by TheTrueSeeker: 7:04pm On Jul 11, 2018
dammy13:
Try to get your information right. According to the Government House sources, Fayose was enjoying himself taking gulder when the incident happened. He was informed that police fired the tear gas when Fayose's supporters threatened to burst out of the Government House for a street show that was never permitted by the police.

This is not the first time Fayose is acting in this manner. He once organised a fake assassination theory when he asked his security aides to shoot his vehicle on a Lagos bridge to later  ‎claim that assassins sent by the opposition shot at him. In the course of investigation, the security aide that fired the shot confessed that Fayose was acting a stunt.

Do you remember when Fayose set his G-Wagon on fire in Lagos because EFCC agents were on the trail of his car driven by his aides and loaded with hard currency suspected to be proceeds of crimes?

Fayose is a man that will wrap a copy of English dictionary with the back cover of the Holy Bible and use it to swear to con his victims.

Did you see him how he wept when Dr Daramola was assassinated? Do you remember the question he asked ‎from his aides after that weeping session? He asked them: "Did I weep very well that will convince the people that I was innocent?" Do you recall that he did the same when Omolafe Aderiye was assassinated in Ado-Ekiti? Later nko, who was being fingered as Aderiye's alleged killer?

I can give several other instances where this crook will act this way‎ to deceive the public.

The question we need to ask is: in the crowd of about 1,000 people, how come that it only Fayose that was affected by the fumes of tear gas?

He claimed that his neck was broken. Can tear gas cause a break of the neck?

Now he is saying that he wanted to go to the hospital even though all that he is planning is to escape from Nigeria.

This is pure foolery. I am not one that will fall victim of that shameless lie that a gas fume will cause a man to break his neck, ‎forcing a grandfather to be crying like a baby on television screen.

Sir, listen carefully to the Channels footage of the scene and you will hear a voice in the background complaining that this trick will backfire to scare ordinary PDP members on election day‎. Fayose's action is a criminal and shameful manipulation of an incident that did not happen.

Fayose should have waited till Saturday for  real weeping sessions after Ekiti people would have finished with him. Shio!

I only pity those who believe in Fayose's lie for obvious reasons.

@Op No, your damage control attempt doesn't add up..!!!

First, did the NPF deny they didn't fire teargas?
If they did, for what exactly?
Were the people protesting or rioting?

Protester are required to obtain NPF permit before embarking on any protest...!!!
According to INEC timetable political campaigns are allowed till a certain period to election day so what crime did they commit?
Is there any crime to gather around the government house or campaign around the government house?

We all should be careful not to give credence to lawless act that would back-fire sooner than later..!!!

Okay, let's give him benefit of doubt, where were his personal bodyguards, yes the same ones who carried him away from the scene. Were they not armed? why didn't they react when they saw people bashing him with "gun butts"? Mehn, I don't trust politicians and I don't even support any useless political party. Politics / Re: On Kemi Adeosun: What If You Get A Fake Custom, Driver's Licence by TheTrueSeeker: 3:57pm On Jul 11, 2018
9jatriot:
Sometime in 2012, Mr Mark (not real names) was travelling on one the Nigerian roads when he got flagged down by members of FRSC. With an air of arrogance, he was determined to ensure that no one intimidated him as he had successfully done with all the previous checkpoints he met along the way. At their request he provided all his car papers.
At a point they requested for the original of his driver's licence, the previous police points hadn't asked for this, but, he brought it out anyway from his wallet since the driver's licence was kept separate from the other car papers. After what seem like an eternity the official finally walked towards him with his driver's licence. Finally, he could continue his journey he thought, until he got a bombshell. His driver's licence was fake.

At first he thought it was a joke, luckily for him, he even had the receipt he used in making his payment at the FRSC office, still the officials insisted. It was only then that he noticed the long list of cars of people who were in the same shoes with him with each of them making frantic calls to the official who handled the process.
The recent introduction of the new driver's licence has reduced this issue of fake driver's license, but it used to be prevalent then.

This same scenarios also happens with custom papers, where a person assume he has all the papers intact and drives confidently along the way only to find out that the papers are fake and car gets impounded.

In these scenarios, who is at fault? the man who genuinely thought he was parading an authentic document, the office from which that document emanated from or the personnel who handled the processing?

Thinking like this is the very reason why this continent has remained backward.

Please has Kemi gone to Court?

The current Minister of Finance; Mrs. Kemi Adeosun's failure or yet to file character defamation suit or libel in Court against Premium Times is an admittance or proof that all allegations against her are true. In Law, when a claim is entered against a defendant, failure to file a counterclaim is adjudged an admittance.

If she was innocent, this would have accorded her the opportunity or open cheque to name her price (N5b) against Premium Times and trust the DSS, they would have raided the offices or houses of all editorial boards of the media outlet by now...!!!

Needless to mention the busybody overzealous NPF, orders and non-orders would have been enforced

For you to have passed out of service in 2009 means you started in 2008 right?

By the time you were in your PPA, your state NYSC officials were preparing your discharge Cert. So since its not possible for the DG to sign all cert one by one, they do a mass print of the Cert with his signature on it.

In the case of an applicant applying for exemption, the DG would need to approve first. So the NYSC officials would need show the sequence and evidence of the approval

Well meaning Nigerians should Recall how recently when the news of the discovery of the
ikoye Cash by the NIA and former SGF were made public, the presidency was forced to immediately suspend the duo to allow for thorough investigation of the allegations and to ascertain the level of tneir invovlement

Well, that is what is expected of any decent administration. Kemi Adeosun should either resign or be suspended immediately so those who would investigated the matter including the NYSC management would treat her as an ordinary citizen and not as a Minister of the FRN.

The idea of the scheme is to foster unity and to promote service to the Nation and no other than the NYSC management should lead by example in showing patrotisim.

For the sake of all of us who at one time or the other were called 'Ajuwire' we don't deserve to be cheated by the very government that swore to abide by the tenets of the constitution.
