Politics / Senator Ifeanyi Ubah Defects To APC, AMCON Charges Withdrawn by tonywonder(m): 1:30pm On Oct 19, 2023
Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, the distinguished senator for Anambra South, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) last week. Today, at his criminal trial before the Federal High Court in Lagos, the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) applied to withdraw the charges against him and the court duly obliged.

The charges against Senator Ubah were related to a N135 billion debt that his company, Capital Oil and Gas Limited, owed to AMCON. It is unclear why AMCON chose to withdraw the charges at this time, but some have speculated that it may be related to Senator Ubah's recent defection to the APC.

Senator Ubah's defection to the APC has been met with mixed reactions. Some have praised him for his political pragmatism, while others have criticized him for abandoning the Young Progressives Party (YPP), the party on whose platform he was elected to the Senate.

It remains to be seen what impact Senator Ubah's defection to the APC will have on his political career. However, the withdrawal of the charges against him is a significant victory for him.

Crime / Amma Buwa: Bukar Abacha's Daughter Strangled To Death In Maiduguri by tonywonder(m): 12:31pm On Oct 18, 2023
Mrs Amma Buwa, the daughter of a member of Borno State House of Assembly, Bukar Abacha, was reportedly strangulated to death by unknown persons in the Gidan Dembe area of Maiduguri, the state capital.

The incident, which caused the stagnation of activities in the area, attracted a large crowd of residents who thronged the scene to catch a glimpse of what happened to the daughter of the lawmaker representing Ngala Local Government Area of the state.

A source who spoke with Vanguard said the incident occurred around 6:30 pm on Tuesday when the husband was said to have left the compound to a nearby mosque for prayers.

According to him, the husband of the victim who took the corpse to the police station said he found her lifeless body in his house with her hand and legs tied behind her back while her two-year-old child was crying beside her.

Meanwhile, a family source (name withheld) who shared the news of the incident on his Facebook page said the remains of the deceased would be buried today (Wednesday) morning in Maiduguri.

“Inna lillahi Wa Inna Ilaihi Raji’un.

Mrs. Amma Buwa was killed by some hoodlums earlier today after Ishai prayer when some unknown men invaded her house after her husband left for the masjid to pray.

“Amma is the daughter of member Representing Ngala at the state House of Assembly.

“The janaiza (burial) will occur at 777 Housing Estate by 10 am in Maiduguri.

“May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” he wrote.

However, the Gwange Police Division has reportedly evacuated the corpse to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital for autopsy and investigation.

How Tinubu spent a whooping sum of four hundred and twenty-two thousand, eight hundred and twenty US dollars ($422,820) on hotel reservations for him and his close aides alone in just 7 days, at the just concluded United Nations General Assembly UNGA.

An equivalent of 422,820,000 million naira in 7 days. From 16th of September to 23rd of September 2023. Despite the fact that there is a Nigerian House in New York, where tax payers money are budgeted annually to maintain.

As if that is not bad enough, he also spent an additional eighty-four thousand, five hundred and sixty-four US dollars ($84,564) on incidentals.

An equivalent of 84,564,000 million naira. They asked ordinary Nigerians to tighten their belts, to sacrifice and be patient because the country is broke. But see them embezzling and lavishing the very money they claimed we don't have.

Don't get it twisted, all the ministers and heads of MDA's who attended the united nations general assembly UNGA, went there based on the individual budget approved by their ministries or agencies, which also runs into hundreds of millions of naira. They were not included in Tinubu's budget. It is necessary i make this clarification. The $422,820 and $84,564 dollars is just for Tinubu and his close aides alone.

Anambra State House of Assembly has approved Soludo to borrow N100b but the Governor has refused not to borrow.

He has insisted even if he must borrow, it must be for a project that is economical and has the capability to generate back the money.

Politics / Soludo Presents Cheque Worth ₦‎1.524 Billion Naira To Anambra Mission Schools by tonywonder(m): 8:56pm On Oct 05, 2023
By Christian ABURIME

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, presented cheques worth N1.524 billion to mission schools in the state as government support to improve quality of education and infrastructure.

Governor Soludo presented the cheques to owners/operators of Anambra Mission Schools during a meeting held at Government Lodge, Amawbia.

A total of 762 Anambra Mission Schools received N2,000,000 each from the government of Anambra State.

Eight (cool schools returned to Salvation Army Schools received a total sum of N16,000,000.

Two hundred and seventy-five (275) schools returned to Anambra Anglican Mission Public Schools received a total sum of N550,000,000, while four hundred and fifty-nine (459) schools returned to Anambra Catholic Mission Public Schools received a total sum of N918,000,000.

Twenty (20) schools initially owned by Anambra Pentecostal Schools received a total sum of N40,000,000.

In a remark, the governor said that the education sector is one large sector, for which his administration has a large agenda.

He applauded owners of mission schools for their active participation in the health sector, of which most hospitals belong and decried the state of public sector components in the area of education and health.

Governor Soludo noted that both sectors are fundamentally slacking backwards and that part of his agenda is to restore them, which is part of the primary duty of government anywhere in the world.

The governor recalled that when he assumed office, no general hospitals had doctors.

He however, assured that all general hospitals will be equipped with solar power so that ndi Anambra can have access to a qualitative healthcare system and educational system, especially the poorest of the poor.

The Governor disclosed that hundreds of quack hospitals are in operation and reiterated his commitment to clean up the sector and make it work.

"In the area of education, this is why we are here and what we are trying to achieve on education is also the same we want to achieve in the public health sector," Governor Soludo said.

He expressed displeasure that the society is creating two sets of citizens; the children of the poor abandoned in public schools and the children of the rich/average who can afford missions or private schools.

He maintained his vision is to develop human capital in the state that will be productive at home and exportable abroad as well as to refurbish and recreate schools that will be smart, digital inclined. He also disclosed his plans to commence Leadership Science and Technology Schools.

"We shall be encouraging ndi Anambra to adopt schools in their communities but even if you can't, you can at least buy a pencil for a child. You will be amazed at what difference you can make. Club of Patrons will be formed in these public schools. We want communities to take ownership of these schools," he said.

Governor Soludo appreciated operators of Mission schools for their efforts over the years and what they will continue to do, describing them as almost being a substitute for the government.

In a vote of thanks, the Chairman of PFN, Anambra State Chapter, Bishop Moses Ezedebego on behalf of all Anambra Mission Schools said that the Governor has demonstrated leadership, showing that all religious denominations can work together as a family.

Bishop Ezedebego stressed that the Governor has wiped the tears of uncountable millions of poor ndi Anambra and his deeds today will remain indelible in the annals of the State history

The Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim joined the Governor at the event.

The Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, Chief of Staff, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, Bishop Awka Diocese and Archbishop of the Niger Province, Most Rev. Alexander Ibezim, the Catholic Bishop of Awka, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, Catholic Bishop of Nnewi, Most Jonas-Benson Okoye, Bishops among others attended the meeting which featured a debrief by the Commissioner for Health on the health sector.

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has called for the development of a one hundred year-plan for the development of the South East region.

Governor Soludo made the call at the South East Summit on Economy and Security held at Owerri, Imo State.

The summit which had the theme "South East Beyond 2023, Time for a Reset", was facilitated by the South-East Governors' Forum and supported by Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide.

Governor Soludo expressed the unwavering commitment of the state government to the Southeast agenda, noting that his government is already demonstrating its commitment by its comportment.

The Governor declared that a new dawn is upon the Southeast, a response to the people clamoring for the unity of Southeast governors.

He explained that the region need a plan because without a destination in mind, any road can be explored, citing how the state government developed a 50-year plan called the "Anambra vision 2070".

The Governor revealed that the Southeast is ready and ripe for business, and that they must believe in their ability to make things right again and move the region forward in spite of the challenges.

He called for synergy and partnership with the rest of Nigeria, Africa and the international community to implement the plan, adding that as an itinerant people, who are everywhere, the Igbos cannot afford to be intolerant and provincial.

On his part, the Imo State Governor and Chairman of South-East Governors' Forum, Senator Hope Uzodimma preached for unity and cooperation among Igbo leaders and youths to bring growth to the homestead, calling for a conference between Southeast Leaders and Igbo youths to address issues affecting the region.

Also speaking, the Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, said leaders should create an enabling environment for businesses to do well in the Southeast and to identify investment opportunities within the domain.

He added that where necessary, the government should intervene in businesses, illustrating with the US government which invests $30 billion annually in agriculture, energy, transportation, and other areas to ensure food security and economic growth.

The Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, canvassed for a common strategy and operational plan to tackle security challenges in the Southeast region of Nigeria, calling for the establishment of a Command and Control Center that is central to all component states.

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru represented by his deputy, Patricia Obila said that the summit came at the right time, when Igbo governors can come together to speak with one voice.

Chairman of the occasion, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, President General Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Chairman of South East Traditional Rulers' Council, Igwe Alfred Achebe, Security Chiefs, serving and retired members of the National Assembly among others attended the summit.

Politics / Tinubu Blocks Implementation Of NDLEA Amendment Bill by tonywonder(m): 10:17pm On Aug 27, 2023
Two days before president Buhari left office, he hurriedly signed the NDLEA @ndlea_nigeria amendment bill into law. The law was to make the NDLEA totally independent, & out of some powerful influence & control.

The law was to take away NDLEA from the Ministry of Justice, where they are currently domiciled, to the presidency where they will enjoy first line charge for funding. The law will review the salaries and allowances of NDLEA officers, making them one of the best paid agency in Nigeria.

The law will reform their working conditions and commands offices nationwide, giving them world class structures across the nation, fitted with internationally certified equipments.

NDLEA will be empowered by law to go anywhere around the world, to track down Drug barons doing business in Nigeria, in collaboration with foreign partners. The law will permit NDLEA to visit drug cases, no matter how long such cases has been hidden.

They can conduct fresh investigation, and prosecute offenders. The law will empower NDLEA to prosecute Drug barons and drug to the fullest. There will be enough funding provisions already in place.

The law will take away the eyes of NDLEA officers, from accepting bribes, as it is currently the case. Because their salaries will be enough to contend with. They will be one of the best paid agency in Nigeria, if not the best.

But the sweetest part of the law is, Drug barons and drug offenders will no longer be given the option of fine, if arrested for drug related offences. THEY MUST SERVE JAIL TERM. Those obsolete laws currently being used in drug related prosecutions, will be expunged.

With this law, @ndlea_nigeria will be the most active agency in Nigeria. This law was enacted due to pressures from international drug organizations, and some foreign powers, if Nigeria is to be taken seriously on the fight against drug trafficking. Also to get donations, foreign aids, better ratings and good image for the country.

Pressures were mounted heavily on the House of representatives @HouseNGR committee on Drugs and Narcotics, from Buhari and the presidency, when it became clear that Tinubu will never honour such bill if taken to him. He will not sign it into law, as someone with drug related baggages on his head.

The committee had to work 40 days straight, to see that this bill is passed, and also ensure their Senate counterparts concurred, so the president can sign it into law. See attached Facebook post from the former chairman, House of representatives committee on Drugs and Narcotics Hon Francis Ottah Agbo, confirming the signing into law of the NDLEA amendment bill by president Muhammadu Buhari.

But since Tinubu came on board, he has kept the implementation of the law pending. Not even a word as regards it. Sources in the presidency confirmed that the law is as good as dead with Tinubu in charge. Because implementing it, is like shooting his foot by himself. The law will somehow catch up with him and his cronies. If not now, it will be much later.

Politics / Nigerian Security Agents: The New Armed Robbers by tonywonder(m): 4:16pm On Aug 23, 2023
If you are driving a flashy or expensive car in Nigeria, please don't drive alone at Nights. The real robbers killing and stealing cars from lone drivers are security agents, mounting different road blocks and checking points across the country.

The personal aid to Senator Solomon Adeola, Adeniyi Sanni, was killed by soldiers @HQNigerianArmy officers because of his flashy car. They stopped him like a routine stop for questioning or search around Ojodu berger, on his way to Isheri where he stays on the 3rd of August 2023.

But they later took him from the checking point to an isolated spot in Lagos, killed him and dumped his body at Oshodi. They stole his car, his phone, and other personal belongings on him.

The same set of soldiers stopped another lone driver Yusuf Lawali on the 18th of August 2023. Took him to Iyana Ipaja tollgate, killed him and dumped his body in the bush.
They stole the 2022 model Toyota Corolla vehicle he was going to deliver in Abuja.

Please be careful out there. Armed robbers are now official soldiers and police men in Nigeria. Using guns procured with tax payers money to rob and kill innocent unsuspecting Nigerians.

Politics / Soludo: Anambra Interim Response To Cushion The Effects Of Economic Challenges by tonywonder(m): 5:09pm On Aug 21, 2023
Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR

Nigeria is undergoing fundamental re-setting of the macroeconomic framework. The long overdue disruptive change (especially the removal of subsidy on PMS and reduction of distortions in the exchange rate) comes with certain hardships on all the residents of Nigeria. Governments at all levels in Nigeria have shown a keen commitment to ameliorate the consequent short term effects of the policy change on livelihoods. The President of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has rolled out an agenda of palliatives as the response of the federal government. We support the FGN agenda and expect to partner with the federal government to ensure that Anambra residents benefit maximally from the federal programmes.

Ours is a government on the foundation of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). We are progressives, and the welfare of the ordinary Nigerians especially the poor and vulnerable, remains our primary focus. Our motto is: “Be your brother’s and sister’s keeper”. There is no better time to rise up to the full essense of our motto and ideological stance on behalf of the ordinary persons than now.

In our 2024 budget, we shall roll out a more comprehensive agenda to address the medium to longer term issues that will help to smoothen the path for all our residents, and ensure that everyone shares in our broad agenda of building a livable and prosperous homeland. In the meantime and over the remaining four months of the year (September – December 2023) as well as within the context of our 2023 budget framework, we are rolling out a few immediate and medium term measures.

Our response recognizes that the subsidy removal affects ALL citizens, especially millions of the unemployed and underemployed youths and vulnerable segments of the population. Our interim response reflects the need to target the total population.

a. Salary Augmentation and Cash Award:

(i) In our foresighted response to the rising inflation, our government had increased the salaries of all public servants by 10% effective January 2023. We have been paying the 10% adjustment since January 2023.

(ii) In addition to the salary increase, we will be paying every pensioner and public servant in the employment of the Anambra State Government and the 21 LGAs (approx. 59,000 persons) for the period September 2023 to December 2023 a monthly flat non-taxable cash award of N12,000. This is to augment their monthly take-home.

b. We will continue to clear the backlog of gratuity and pension of our pensioners. Recall that we met 4-year pension and gratuity arrears when we assumed office, which we have been paying since assumption of office.

c. Anambra State Government will be distributing rice to over 300,000 households in the coming weeks across the 326 wards in Anambra.

Tax Exemptions/Reductions:

a. The following highly vulnerable persons are exempt from all forms of taxation/levies: hawkers; wheel barrow and truck pushers; vulcanizers; artisans, okada drivers; petty traders with capital of less than N100,000; etc.

b. The IGR payments of ALL transporters --- Keke, Minibus, etc are hereby reduced by 20% with effect from September 01, 2023.

c. Basic Education (primary school to JSS3) remain tuition free for all public schools. We are reviewing the plethora of other levies, fees, and charges in these schools. Before schools resume in September 2023, we shall make further announcements to sanitize the system and reduce the burden on our pupils/students and their sponsors.

d. Henceforth, we will provide free antenatal services and free delivery services to pregnant mothers in State primary health centres and general hospitals. We will announce a more comprehensive medical package for our residents, especially the senior citizens and children in our 2024 budget.

e. We call on the landlords to show empathy to their tenants at this challenging moment and consider easier options for rent payment.

a. We have approved the repair/renovation of all serviceable Public Servants Staff Buses currently under the office of the Head of Service of Anambra State to facilitate the movement of public servants.

b. Still on initiative to reduce the cost of transportation for the larger segment of Ndi Anambra, we will be applying to purchase many of the CNG-fueled buses to be provided by the Federal Government for intra-state transportation. The aim is to reduce the cost of transportation within Anambra.

c. We will embark immediately on the repair of existing and purchase of new water boats to ease transportation for our citizens in the riverine local governments.

Medium to long-term

a. We recently distributed a total of 1.1 million oil palm and coconut high yielding seedlings to over 100,000 households. We plan to sustain the distribution of one million seedlings per annum over several years in continuation of our revolution to create a new palm-coconut green/industrial ecosystem that will guarantee 500,000 – 1,000,000 households earning N1.5m to N3m per annum, thereby lifting them out of poverty, create wealth and earn foreign exchange for Nigeria. We also expect a new industrial complex to process the products, thereby creating more jobs for our youths.

b. We are getting ready to deal with the heavy flooding expected to massively affect eight local governments in Anambra soon. We have made arrangements for resettlements of Ndi Anambra living in flood-prone areas. We will take every necessary measure to ameliorate the effects on the victims.

c. In the next few weeks, we will be energizing our One Youth Two Skills program by providing a mix of grant and soft loan schemes at a maximum interest rate of 9% per annum through a collaborative initiative between the Anambra State Small Business Agency (ASBA) and its partner development finance institutions. This will benefit about 4,500 of our youths who have recently completed the year-long intensive trainings, and will enable them to become entrepreneurs and employers of labour. We are rolling out about N4 billion for this project.

d. We are completing the set-up and funding of the Ward-based Cooperative Initiative for micro-enterprises. We are proposing a revolving loan scheme at near zero interest rate. We are targeting over 100,000 micro businesses.

e. Already we employed 5,000 teachers and over 300 medical professionals within our first 9 months in office plus thousands of youths in the security sector. We understand that the teeming unemployed youths remain a potent time bomb. We are committed to recruiting further thousands of youths as teachers for our schools and road/street sweepers and engaging youths in public works.

f. We are rolling out a very ambitious program to build/modernize the primary health centres (PHCs) in all the 326 wards --- to let everyone have access to qualitative healthcare. This is in addition to renovation/modernization of hundreds of primary schools and secondary schools. We recently approved a huge program for urban and rural water schemes to ensure that especially the poor have access to clean portable water.

g. We are constructing over 340km of roads across all the 21 local governments and we are poised to continue. We have also started repairs of some "trunk A" federal and state roads, to improve the lives of Ndi Anambra and reduce transportation cost in the State. As we enter the dry season, we will deliberately prioritize palliative works on many of our critical roads to lessen the burden on commuters and ensure more effective traffic management.

h. We are working assiduously to improve the Ease of Doing Business in Anambra to attract private sector investment into the State for improved job creation for Ndi Anambra. Security of life and property remain the number one priority of government. We are stepping up measures to deal with touts who inflict pain on our innocent citizens around some major places in the state.

i. Food prices are rising and food security has become a critical issue. We are determined to provide every assistance to the farmers for the next planting season in 2024 to boost food and animal production.

j. Finally, we are determined to collaborate with the Federal Government to ensure that Anambra residents benefit maximally from the myriad of palliatives being rolled out by Mr. President, including:

Politics / Another Fresh Petrol Price Set To Be Announced by tonywonder(m): 12:14pm On Aug 14, 2023
Market forces have said that Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) popularly known as petrol will soon sell for 720 per litre.

This unwelcome development comes as Nigerians are still grappling with the aftermath of recent increases in the cost of living and transportation following a recent hike in petrol prices by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited.

Insiders in the oil sector have revealed to the media that there are strong signals pointing towards yet another escalation in the pump price of petrol. If this unfolds, it would mark the third increase within a span of just ten weeks.

Reports suggest that the cost of landing petrol has surged by a staggering 37.4% on a month-on-month basis, reaching an unsettling N632.17 per litre in July 2023, as opposed to N460 per litre in June 2023.

This doesn’t even account for additional expenses such as depot-related charges, transportation logistics, and marketers’ margins, which together could push the delivery price at filling stations to nearly N700 per litre.

The factors driving these rising costs are expected to further intensify, with sources indicating that the landing cost for August is poised to rise even higher due to ongoing issues like foreign exchange scarcity and deteriorating exchange rates.

With the Nigerian government’s removal of fuel subsidies, it’s uncertain whether fuel prices will stabilize anytime soon.

Compounding the situation, the Nigerian currency, the Naira, has experienced a significant depreciation—around 6.5% in the official market and 25% in the parallel market since the last petrol price increase.

This depreciation, combined with the climbing price of crude oil on the international market, has led to higher costs for fuel imports.

Marketers have expressed their concerns about the unprofitability of importing fuel at the current pump price, while the government has yet to assure a free-floating pump price policy.

In fact, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has essentially become the sole importer, apart from a few minor private imports recorded in the past month.

The situation appears to be worsening as Nigeria’s crude oil output declines, posing a threat to the nation’s ability to import refined products.

In its August 2023 Monthly Oil Market Report (MOMR), the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) highlighted a decrease in Nigeria’s oil production by 6.5% on a year-on-year basis and 3.0% on a month-on-month basis.

As a consequence of these developments, the National Operations Controller of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Mike Osatuyi, has indicated that Nigerians should brace for higher fuel prices in the coming days.

Foreign Affairs / Tinubu Declares War On Niger With Backing From US, France by tonywonder(m): 5:49pm On Aug 12, 2023
We received some intelligence last week but refused to share it because it was too heavy. Now that Bola Tinubu has declared war on Niger through ECOWAS, we think it’s time to share it.

After the coup in Niger broke out, Vice President of the USA, Kamala Harris, asked Tinubu to use ECOWAS to restore Bazoum because the US had invested over $100 million in building a drone base in Niger and didn’t want to lose access to it. Also, in case you don’t know, not only France buys Uranium from Niger. The US currently gets 14% of its Uranium from Russia. But it wants to stop buying Russian Uranium, and it is looking to Niger to fill that gap as well.

So two things; military base in Niger and
Niger Uranium.
Tinubu asked for something in return from Kamala Harris. He asked that they give him international legitimacy after the court declares him President.

He knows there will be protests afterwards but he doesn’t want an EndSARs publicity. He wants the US to back him and not let the international media report on it as they did during ENDSARS and Bring-Back-Our-Girls.

So an agreement was reached last week that if Tinubu protects US and French interests in Niger, the US and EU will back his government no matter what he does.

The following day Tinubu wrote to the Senate to mobilise the army. It failed. Now he has asked the ECOWAS commission to declare mobilisation, so it won’t look like it’s coming from him. But the plan is to secretly deploy Nigeria’s military equipment and send soldiers but not as Nigerian army but as private contractors.

The arrangements have already been made and the US and France are going to fund it.

So, if you are wondering why Tinubu is hellbent on fighting with Niger despite all Nigerians being against the war and even the Northern Senators that he fought so hard to get their support during the election, well it’s because he doesn’t need them anymore.

Once he can win back Niger for the US and France, he’s free to do anything in Nigeria and no one will care. He can even kill all the protesters and you won’t see it in the international news.

Don’t think this is far-fetched. Just Google Augusto Pinochet of Chile, Suharto of Indonesia who killed over 1 million people in Indonesia with US support, or Ferdinand Marcos. Or even more recently look at Chad.

What Tinubu is trying to do is to gain the approval of the West to completely take over Nigeria, kill Nigerians and plunder the nation dry while having the unconditional support of the almighty United States.
