Felt really bad reading through this story...life can be sometimes tough. Cant imagine at 55years Lossing your health, your only source of income, your life partner, plus the burden and responsibility of 5 children in this hellish economy. Kai, I don't know this man, but I genuinely mourn him in silence. May what befell him not befall us.
Our morality is slowly becoming the ransom for our survival. It seems the whole country is been squeezed of joy, peace and fulfillment. A Lot of frustration, desperation and corruption. Our mortal conscience has become rottened with Immorality and criminality...we are consumed by perversion, greed, and the pride of life. Therefore the weak among us, the poor, the sick and the down trodden become needless victims of the consequences of our ignominy. We are a whoring generation, a religious but devilish people, a hoard of thieves.

Forgive my vexations...am just pained

1) CASSAVA FARMING.
...oyo state, sell to Psaltry International Company Limited, they are the first and only African company to produce and export sorbitol to the international market, they give you cassava sprouts/seedlings and they price and buy your produce in dollars. ( Invest 8million) expected ROI in 1 year 40m(+/-10). Risk factor= medium.

2) Distributorship licence with multinational companies...
Multinationals like Nestle, Unilever,Uac, PZ ,Procter and gamble, Guinness, carbury, coca-cola, Friesland etc all need distributors to partner with them and oversee the sales of their products in every part of Nigeria. Depending on your location, you will most likely find one of this companies that is in need of a distributor, this business is in my opinion one of the most financially rewarding business in Nigeria. You stand to gain profits, incentives, rebates and bonuses. Some even employ staffs for you that they pay at the end of the month. (Invest 9m) expected ROI in 1 year 30m (+/-5m)
Risk factor extreme= low (negligible)

3) Buy Bitcoin and Ethereum...
The Nigerian naira is losing 29-30% of it's monetary/purchasing value and power par anum, no thanks to glutinous successive governments who have continued to promote consumption over production. The crypto market is ripe and mature for harvest, if you can handle something as simple as opening a trust wallet, fund it and keep your seed phrase safely, then genuinely consider investing in Bitcoin and Ethereum. (Invest 8m) expected ROI in 1 year 80m(+/-20)
Risk factor= high( for a novice) & medium if you know what you are doing.

Caveat,
Every business I listed here is subject to the inflational gravitational pull of the naira,( except buying Bitcoin and Ethereum) I strongly advise every business minded person to learn the ropes in crypto and dedicate a portion of their finances to it.

I got converted into a fuel subsidy removal supporter in 2012, when Buhari was supporting oil subsidy. So, this is not about politics, it is about thinking things through.

And I don't appreciate your implication that I am foolish

I genuinely enjoy your responses and I in no way whether tacit or implied consider you a fool, perhaps you disliked the flavouring in the mannerism of my presentation.
I do not dispute your general facts and I feel our disagreement is centered around a simple question? And that is, is the NNPC honest and accountable? If there were to be a transparency index scale, where would you personally rate them on the spectrum based on her antecedents. Your answer to this question will help us define how we treat figures, statistics and reports emanating from the NNPC.
I am not necessarily against fuel subsidy removal, as a matter of fact I got converted just about one year ago, I have always been an ardent advocate for the complete removal of fuel subsidy in Nigeria, Below is one of my posts from a similar topic sometimes last year.
Not until I read books by;
Nasir el-rufai, the accidental public servant.
Okonjo iweala, fighting corruption is dangerous and John walker, how we destroyed Nigeria.
My conclusions from all these is that the NNPC has always been the problem in Nigeria, their statistics, figures, reports and data are usually controversial and marred with unreconcilable information. They report to none, audited by nobody and answerable to only the president who doubles as the minister of petroleum.

Peter obi made a comment sometimes ago, where he compared the population of Nigeria and Pakistan, data showed an almost equal number of cars for the two countries as well as bad power supplies, yet the fuel consumption rate in Nigeria was 3times more than the consumption rate in Pakistan!

Because if we keep the subsidy, we would see a rise in debt beyond what Buhari has incurred

Subsidy, roughly speaking, is what is paid to the petroleum sector as compensation for selling below the production cost of petrol.

The problem with subsidy is that government does not control the production cost of petrol. So, when it rises, the cost of subsidy rises, which means that we have to pay an increasing amount of money to cover the increasing loss from the increasing difference between the government set price and the production cost. This eats into the budget, and as a result, government has to take loans to cover the difference.

When the difference gets too much, in the past, government usually reduces subsidy cost by raising fuel prices a bit. As an example, in 2012, fuel was costing N65, landing cost was N99. Government raised prices to N97, meaning subsidy costs went down to N2 per liter from N34 per liter. (The above has been happening since the year 1973, which is why fuel is no longer costing 15 KOBO as it did in 1981!)

At the moment, we have too much debt, not only from covering subsides, but also from low oil prices from 2014-2021, which since oil is our main income source, means we have to take loans.

Throw in the fact that in all our neighbours, fuel is above N300 per liter. And people who are poor to people who are rich make lots of money smuggling fuel over the border. That worsens our subsidy costs. And yes, they should be stopped...the problem is, it isn't just the big takers doing the smuggling, it is also small guys with 50 l jerrycans carrying fuel over the border. Unless we want to build a fence, and staff it with one million armed border force people....

Note that OP, you are right about the negatives of subsidy removal. But the issue is...do we keep on throwing millions of naira daily to keep fuel subsided, and take loans and more loans, or do we remove subsidy, and save more money, and hopefully attract more investment, money and jobs to our petrol sector?

Keep in mind that subsidy is also why we cannot build and maintain refineries. And why refinereis get sabotaged. Ideally, a refinery should make a profit, and use that profit to run itself. Subsidy means that the refineries not only do not run at a profit, but whether they work or not, they get free money from government. And naturally, unscrupulous agents would damage the refineries to keep getting free money.

We are between the devil and deep blue sea. The thing is, subsidy removal could , if done right, lead to a period of prosperity after a period of hardship.

I know Nigerians do not like it. But at the end, if we had taken the subsidy removal road in 1993, by now we could have been a major exporter of high quality fuel to Africa and the world, and NNPC woulda had more than 4 refineries, and there would have been lots of private refineries.

Price controls do not work. Ask the USSR.

It's funny how the Buhari led government thinks us all foolish,
I understand that the production and landing cost of petrol has been increasing over the years and has become a strain on our financial budget. But take a moment to think sir, do you really think our refineries are redundant because their operations are not profitable? Petrol is only one of the many derivatives of the fractional distillation of crude(when refined locally). Diesel, kerosene, naphtha, bitumen and other petrochemical industrial derivatives are not subsidised! what happens to the billions obtained from the sales of this derivatives?
Petrol may not be profitable, but is diesel unprofitable, is kerosene also unprofitable?

This cat dance will continue until the government confronts the NNPC and demands accountability from her. Refineries are not working yet over 7,000 staffs are being paid billions in salary every month, and you expect the refineries to work? How? If I can get salary without working, why work at all?
Illiterate militants in the creeks of the niger-delta refine petrol using local crude methods, yet a country of 200million people will line her crude oil badges at the ports of Spain and India waiting, sometimes even begging for buyers☹️, then turn around, use the money derived from the sale to buy refined petroleum, then transport it back and lump all of this foolish expenses as "landing cost" and expect poor and frustrated Nigerians to pay for their careless and reckless ignominy.

If the government has really decided to go the fuel import way, then there is no need to be spending millions on over 7,000 workers in the refineries. Imagine 1.5 billion dollars was spent last year to patch this same refineries ☹️☹️ the subsidy removal should start by privatising all refineries and sacking it's redundant staffs. They are all a hoard of thiefs!!!

Please Great man, I solely need your advise and input. Please advise me as your younger brother.

Am about to go into business. Computer Business Center to be precise. The capital is there, have starting getting the equipment I will be needing.
Please what's your sincere input and advise in this as I will be depending 85% on fuel to run it and the longer I put off getting most equipment now, the more the increase of their prices.
Please what's your input. cause am scare and I don't have mentor or someone to guild me through.
Good day brother,
The business center biz is an ever-green business domain in Nigeria, as long as people continue to do registrations, online applications, printing and photocopies.
It's a good thing you have the foresight of planning ahead, especially as the federal government moves aggresively to finally remove fuel subsidy.

I will suggest the following;

1) make sure you are using a prepaid meter for your electricity billings, NEPA and her agents will most likely increase the bills for those on estimated billing.

2) please consider using laptops for your operations as they consume less power and come with a few hours of battery charge when there is power outage.

3) integrate or add pos business to the business center
. This with guarantee you a few thousand naira in profits daily and will go a long way in reducing your expenses.

4) buy paper, ink-colour, turner, staple pin and other stationaries in bulk from major dealers and if possible, buy for up to six months supply.
5) buy monthly data subscription plans, 3gig for 1 month preferably as you may not have much patronage in the first few weeks or months.
6) buy your fuel yourself, refuse to deligate sensitive routine business purchases
as hardship and crime rate will increase with increasing fuel price as well.

7) consider investing in solar panels if you can afford them, even a single cell and one panel will go a long way.

cool lastly, pray...flee fornication and commit the business in the hands of God.
You will succeed!

There are 5 other environmental occupations on the list. You should check the list thoroughly.

One of occupations on the list has the same job descriptions and functions with my proposed course of study, should I just go for a masters in environmental management proper, to avoid stories that touch?

Spot on!

To everyone, skilled migration should be your first choice. If you are not eligible, then explore student visa. It saves you money and stress because if you come in with student visa, you will still be back to the skilled migration process except you plan to come back to Nigeria.

You can only imagine if you spend less and get in on work visa! You can start earning straight, no school fees to pay or any restriction.
Please am a bit confused with my course application process, I intend to apply for masters in environment and climate emergency, but the only related occupation on the skilled occupation list is environmental manager. Can a masters in environment and climate emergency earn me the title of an environmental manager, so I could easily transition into PR after my studies?
The absence of management in my course title is what is getting me worried, please gurus in the house, your input will be greatly appreciated

If Nigeria were to be used for locational context.....

1) with fuel price at 350naira and ambitiously chasing the post-subsidy mark of 700naira per litre.

2) with diesel price above 800naira on the litre

3) with a barrel of Brent crude below 100$ on the international market

4) with NEPA charging 25naira per kilowatt

5) with dollar exchanging at 750 for a dollar

6) with meaningless and poorly planned
government financial policies( cashless policy)

7) with central bank interest rates at 25%

cool with inflation rate above 22%

9) with rents (for shops and warehouses) increasing more than 50%

10)with the current highly desperate and criminal mindset of the average Nigerian employee

11) with a compromised judiciary

12) with almost assured and secured insecurity forecast s

10) with lots of uncertainty with the political future of the country.

It would be careless, almost madness to conceive the ideation of starting a business in this turbulent times of unprecedented uncertainties. Except the business is frying Akara in wuse market, please keep your job and stock food at home, the ride would be bumpy... winter is coming.

Funny how they think mopping up liquidity will reduce inflation in a non-producing and
import dependent economy. This will only strangulate the few non-bouyant indigenous companies left, it will simply increase the cost of production, trigger mass retrenchment and downsizing of workers and workforce.

These companies are usually always indebted to banks, an increase in interest rate heavily affects the cost of production, manufacturing and doing business in general.

Either you write IELTS or contact the school/University where you obtained your last educational certificate(s) to issue a letter attesting to it that your English skills in your educational documents are equivalent to the Central European FRamework B2 in English.
Some schools accept the latter, IELTS is just more recommended/recognised

China is not a 'developed' nation.

Education is subsidized in most countries, especially those with 100% literacy rates.

All that cheap rice that Thailand exports, you think it isn't subsidized?

Malaysia doesn't subsidize its agricultural output?

You think Vietnam does not provide subsidies for its manufacturing?

You are naive if you fail to understand that subsidies/public funds are used to build economies. Nigeria's debt profile isn't anywhere near as high as the above nations.

As to where Nigerians will get the money? Well, you people subsidize religion hence why at least 3 of the top ten wealthiest pentacostal pastors are Nigeria. As well as sponsoring religious travel.

Maybe if the Nigerian government prioritized things that matter then you might get better results but then the government is only a reflection of the populace and Nigerians are stupendously superstitious. You cannot expect the Nigerian government at any level to be rational when the people are so horrendously irrational. Fix that most basic issue first and then you might see some results.

China is not only 'a developing country' she is also the world's second largest economy. You keep mentioning Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, China...how many of them subsidies fuel importation? Oga, if subsidies are meant for economic growth and expansion like in all the countries you listed, then it is given to producers and manufacturers not importers whose activities have no positive impact on the economy like in our case of petroleum imports. If government gives subsidies to dangote refineries, it's completely different from when NNPC spend trillions importing refined petrol!!

America and the EU subsidize their farmers/farm products. This is why it's so easy for them both to dump their agricultural produce on the rest of the world.

China subsidizes damn near its entire economy. Hence why it's so easy for them to crush businesses elsewhere.

The entire 'capitalist' system is built on 'subsidies'.

No sir, infact subsidies are meant for developed nations, not third world poverty stricken countries with overburden debt profiles, countries that spend more than half their revenue servicing debt! Haba, where do we get the money from? Nigeria that is still struggling to construct bridges. These countries you mentioned have enough to spare, their systems are efficient, tax recovery is near 100%, how many people pay tax in Nigeria?
