Operatives of Benue State Command have rescued a Benue State University lecturer, Dr Godwin Kwanga, who was kidnapped at gunpoint in Makurdi.
It was gathered that Dr Kwanga, a lecturer in the Department of Geography, was abducted Tuesday night August 31, by the armed men who whisked him away to an unknown destination when he left his private office for his residence along George Akume Way, New GRA Makurdi.
Confirming the development, spokesperson of the command, DSP Catherine Anene said that the lecturer was rescued on Thursday, September 2, when operatives invaded the hideout of the suspected kidnappers. .
She added that a Toyota Highlander SUV belonging to the victim was also recovered.
"On 2nd September 2021 at about 10 am, information was gathered that a kidnap victim was held hostage at Tse-Anjov village, Welfare quarters, Makurdi. Operatives invaded the hideout and the suspects engaged the police in a gun duel but were overpowered by the police. The victim was successfully rescued unhurt while the hoodlums escaped with bullets wounds." the PPRO stated.

Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu, wife of the Governor of Abia State has taken over the cost of treatment for a 10-year-old girl who was abused by one, Mrs Zazi David Orjiugo Kelechi.
It was gathered that the child who has been victimized for over a year, was force-fed and was allegedly poked with pepper inside her private parts.

Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers raided Diete Koki Memorial Hospital in Bayelsa and carted away cash and valuables belonging to patients and doctors on duty.
It was gathered that the gunmen invaded the hospital located along Opolo Road in Yenagoa, the state capital, in the early hours of Tuesday, August 31. Catholic Prayers
The suspected robbers were alleged to have broken into the hospital from the fence behind.
One of the Doctors on duty, Dr Okeleghel Awudumapu, told journalists that the robbery gang attacked while he was returning from his call room.
Dr Awudumapu said his belongings and that of patients from the labour ward and that of their family members were all carted away.
The Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Emmanuel Fetepigi, described the act as barbaric.
According to Dr Fetepigi, the management of the hospital will collaborate with the Ministry of Health to ensure that measures are put in place to forestall future occurrence.
A security man at the hospital, Mr. James Benini, disclosed that it was the second time that the hospital would be attacked.
In his reaction, spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Asinim Butswat, said that the incident is yet to be reported.

A 40-year-old man in Adamawa State, Iliyasu Suleiman, has killed another for taking over a position he was sacked from.
Iliyasu had been sacked from where he was working as a security guard on suspicion that he was stealing company properties, and the deceased was employed into the vacant position.
Iliyasu, who is of Ngurore ward in Yola South Local Government Area and is currently under investigation at the Adamawa State Police Command in Yola, has confessed to beating the new security guard to death, according to a local news publication on Monday evening.
Iliyasu reportedly hit the security guard until he died in a service provider’s company at Kwanan Waya in Yola South LGA.
The suspect is quoted to have said that he was employed by the company in 2020 and was sacked in July 2021 due to cases of theft.
He confessed that he stole the company’s iron rods and sold them to a scavenger at N5000, following which the company reported him to the police who investigated the matter and recovered the iron rods. Catholic Prayers
He said although the management of the company threatened to sack him, he was allowed to stay on after he pleaded, and he worked in the company for one year.
He added however that sometime later, some other people were stealing things from the company and the management, insisting that he must be responsible, finally disengaged him in July 2021.
The company employed another man to serve as security guard, and not long after, he (Iliyasu), armed with a stick, went to the company in the night and hit the new security guard as he slept.
He was later trailed by the police who arrested him over the act
Commenting on the matter, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed that the suspect is currently being questioned by operatives of the command.

Former Petroleum Minister, Ibe Kachikwu has denied smuggling a car stolen from a Jaguar assembly in the United Kingdom into America.
Peoples Gazette reported that a United States court ordered the confiscation of the vehicle found in Kachikwu’s possession.
The 2007 Jaguar XKR was taken from its facility in Birmingham, England. The manufacturer said the vehicle was made for use in the Czech Republic.
The complaint sheet informed the court that the vehicle, which did not meet U.S. safety standards, was stolen and shipped to Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub.
The XKR was seized on June 15, 2011 at the Los Angeles/Long Beach seaport in California, United States.
Kachikwu admitted to the forfeiture of the vehicle and agreed to pay $10,000 instead of the vehicle being confiscated. He maintained he was not part of the theft.
The court held that the vehicle was subject to forfeiture in line with federal laws.
Consuelo Bland Marshall, Judge of the United States Court for the Central District of California, delivered the judgment.
“Claimant has acknowledged that the government had probable cause for the seizure of the defendant vehicle”, the court document read.
“The theft of the defendant vehicle from the manufacturer, as alleged in the complaint, occurred before claimant’s acquisition of the vehicle from a dealership and did not involve claimant.”
Kachikwu was the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Executive Vice Chairman and General Counsel of Exxon-Mobil.
In a statement, Kachikwu’s aide, Lawson Chibuike, noted that the vehicle stolen was from Jamaica, not the UK, and that Jaguar told the District Court of Central California.
He said Kachikwu bought the Jaguar car in 2009 from Dazz Motors Nigeria Ltd., whose MD was Emmanuel Jack, and had an office in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The former minister, he confirmed, paid fully for the car and was registered in his name. Chibuike recalled that after some period of use, Kachikwu exported it to the U.S. “as a gift to a relation”. Early Morning Prayers
Chibuike admitted that the customs impounded the car because it was not built for American roads, based on emission control reasons and on the suspicion that it was stolen.

Mrs Blessing Swawale, the widow of one of the policemen beheaded and burnt to death by suspected members of the disbanded Indigenous People of Biafra in Oyigbo, Rivers State, has accused her in-laws of collecting the N20m compensation given to her family and other entitlements of her husband.
The woman said she was still in pains following the murder of her husband, Inspector Orman Swawale, on October 20, 2020, when IPOB attacked three police stations in Oyigbo.
Recall that the assailants beheaded four policemen, burnt them beyond recognition and carted away rifles in various stations during the attack on the Oyigbo Police Station in the wake of the #EndSARS protest.
In a voice note to our correspondent on Sunday, Blessing said her late husband’s brother collected the N20m released to her as compensation by the government.
She said, “Since I got married to my husband, I have never seen my husband’s family help us with anything. God blessed us with four children. He (late Orman) was the only one catering for those children. But today, he is no more with me. My children’s school fees and what we eat are on me. When the governor gave us that money, I was not in Port Harcourt. I was in my husband’s village.
“So, one of the policemen that stood in for me handed everything to my husband’s brothers. They took me to a bank where they sent the money. From there, they (in-laws) collected everything from me.
“My husband’s salary that the government is paying, his ATM card and mobile telephone are with them.
“I don’t know what to do with my children. I have handed over myself with my children to God because it is the same God that knows why this thing happened. He said, “Call her and she will tell you the name of the person that she went to the bank with and N19m entered the hand of that person.
“She has the name of that person. She has the number of that person. Let her give it to you. I have never gone to the bank with her. I have never signed any money with her and I have never collected any money that I denied her.”
However, the widow insisted that Felix knew about it, adding that the family agreed in a meeting to deny her Orman’s entitlements.
A spokesman for the state police command, Nnamdi Omoni, expressed shock over the allegations, urging the widow to make an official report to the command.
“First, let her come to the office so that we can understand what she is saying. We will listen to her,” Omoni stated. ,,

A 35-year-old driver, Usman Abubarkar, has been arraigned before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court for allegedly destroying 300,000 pieces of watermelon.
The accused person allegedly committed the offence on August 4, 2021, around 7.22 p.m. at Toll Gate Ibadan Road in Ile-Ife.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the accused person maliciously damaged 300,000 pieces of watermelon valued N1.5 million, a property belonging to Asiru Bako.
He added that the accused person deliberately refused to transport the watermelon to Lagos State as agreed upon, knowing that the fruit was perishable goods. Evening Prayers
The offence committed contravened the provisions of Section 451 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The accused person, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge levelled against him.

Magistrate Adewumi Oyebadejo admitted the accused person to bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Oyebadejo added that the sureties must swear to an affidavit of means.
The case was adjourned till August 30 for hearing.
