Crime / The Story Of Dan Matakaya Mwaka & His Wife: Acid Bath, Domestic Violence by yankeenowo(m): 10:44am On Jan 13, 2021
HE WAS NOT BORN BLIND, HIS WIFE DID THIS TO HIM

This is Inspector Dan Matakaya Mwaka, a 31 year old police officer. Mr Mwaka was not born with this frightening appearance. What you see is the result of a normal argument he had with his wife.

One day, Dan and his wife had an argument about a house issue. He says it seemed a normal argument like any married couple and later left for work. He had a night shift so he came back home in the morning around 05:30 hours and went straight to the bed to have some sleep.

This is the moment his wife chose to come and pour acid solution on his face. Then she ran away. But it was not enough for her to spoil his face, she also acted horribly so that he couldn't escape the bedroom. She had poured water on the floor and connected it to electricity then locked the door. As soon as Dan stepped on the floor, he was electrocuted and fainted. Neighbour who had herd him shouting for help forced themselves in his house and opened the door to his room, switched off electricity and rushed him to the hospital.

He had screamed so loud for help before his neighbors came and found him in his despair. They rushed him to hospital and luckily his life was saved, but unfortunately not his eyes. Inspector Dan permanently lost his sight and now completely blind.

His wife was arrested, then released later on bail. He says he forgave her but he is not going to abandon the charges against her. He only met her at the court and all she said was that she doesn't know why she did what she did.

This is how a random conversation with a simple disagreement can lead to tragedy. He adds that every single day he lives is a struggle. All because someone could not manage her anger and emotions. Inspector Dan is just one of the many men that have suffered extreme domestic violence at the hands of evil wives. So sad.

Travel / Time To Break Lagos-ibadan Expressway Jinx by yankeenowo(m): 6:14am On Dec 04, 2020
THE Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, on a recent inspection of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, directed the contractor handling Section I of the rehabilitation to proceed faster, safer and operate with “a human face.” For the thousands of people navigating the 127.6 kilometre highway that has been undergoing seemingly interminable rehabilitation daily, this intervention is long overdue. Fashola and the President, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), must accord this economically important highway utmost priority and fast-track its completion as an integral part of measures to help the country climb out of recession.

Roads, said the World Bank, “link producers to markets, workers to jobs, students to school and the sick to hospitals.” But despite verbal assurances, the Federal Government has not accorded this highway, like other economically important highways, the priority and urgency it deserves. Fashola’s directive to Julius Berger Plc, the contractor handling Section I – Ojota to Sagamu Interchange – to apply speed and safety measures as the Christmas/New Year season approaches when traffic is expected to be higher, is viewed as coming rather late. The thousands who ply the road and businesses have suffered from its dilapidation, near-permanent gridlock, the many narrowed sections, frequent accidents, absence of traffic managers and the never-ending repairs.

As the country confronts its worst recession in three decades exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic-induced meltdown, it should urgently complete critical infrastructure projects to facilitate commerce, boost production activities and enable businesses retain and create jobs.

The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway saga reflects the country’s poor approach to infrastructure, the security and welfare of the citizenry. Started in 2013 by then President Goodluck Jonathan, it was to be completed in 2017. No serious economy spends nine years reconstructing its most important highway. China based its prosperity partly on building and maintaining roads. But only about 60,000 kilometres of Nigeria’s 200,000km of roads are paved and most federal highways are decrepit. Over N1.5 trillion over the next three years is required to fix the federal roads, said Fashola, whose ministry has 711 ongoing road projects.

Fashola told JB to fix “important sections; make them motorable, safe and free of congestion.” He rightly told the contractor to “give the construction work a human face,” adding, “We want a sense of compassion,” and urged the firm to apply palliatives to bad portions of the highway.

The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway jinx has to be broken. It is the main link between Lagos, the country’s industrial, commercial and financial centre; the main arrival hub for air travel, it accounts for 80 per cent of flights to West Africa, according toInternet Geography. Over 65 per cent of industrial concerns, 55 per cent of formal employment is based in Lagos. The Lagos-Apapa Ports account for 65 per cent of national maritime trade. Over 10,000 vehicles ply the road daily, said the Federal Road Safety Commission. Over 1.08 million vehicles plied the highway during the 2018/19 Yuletide/New Year period. Moreover, the highway down its long stretch is a veritable treasure of income-generating investments: housing estates, industrial parks with factories, farms and markets, petrol and gas refill stations. There are schools, universities and numerous faith organisations, poultries and quarries and other mining sites leading off the highway. Meanwhile, all other alternative highways linking Lagos are also in terrible shape, while rail, water and air transport infrastructure is underdeveloped.

The World Highways says, “Roads make a crucial contribution to economic development and growth and bring important social benefits. Providing access to employment, social, health and education services makes a road network crucial in fighting against poverty.” As this newspaper has vigorously canvassed, the rehabilitation deserves utmost speed. For instance, it is curious that the December 2022 completion date initially announced in 2018 was retained despite a commitment given to the American and British governments to deploy $311 million looted by the late Sani Abacha, now recovered for the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the Kano-Kaduna-Abuja Highway and the Second Niger Bridge.

This ought to have substantially solved the problem of funding and freed the three contracts from competing with other projects for scarce funds. Apart from a faster completion date, the government should deploy traffic managers and police to stop the lawlessness of drivers, combat the high rate of robbery on the road and eliminate the impromptu markets that have spilled onto the road, causing traffic snarls and accidents. The FRSC needs more personnel, vehicles and equipment. The order to provide adequate road signage and organise the reconstruction with consideration for commuters should be enforced. Inadequacy of these has caused so much anguish over the last seven years. There should be strict supervision of the contractors.

The government must change its attitude towards transport infrastructure. The Senate recently deplored the meagre N51 billion provided for road maintenance in 2021 as grossly inadequate. But, says the World Bank, “Poorly maintained roads constrain mobility, significantly raise vehicle operating costs, increase accident rates and their associated human and property costs, and aggravate poverty, poor health and illiteracy in rural communities”. India’s prolific road construction and maintenance programme – it builds 27km of highways daily – is cited by Brookings Institution as contributory to its success in fighting extreme poverty.

The reconstruction has taken too long. It has been haphazard, prone to prolonged periods of inactivity; passenger convenience has been minimal and traffic control and law enforcement patchy and ineffectual. Armed robbers operate freely and traffic is chaotic. Sadly, the long delay is contributing to the spate of accidents like the tanker that fell and exploded on Wednesday at the Magboro end of the road, causing hellish gridlock for a whole day. There should be no more delay in completing this highway, the Second Niger Bridge, Kano-Kaduna-Abuja, East-West Road and the Apapa Ports access roads as critical measures to surmount recession.

Politics / Return To APC, Ize-iyamu Begs Obaseki by yankeenowo(m): 7:13am On Sep 24, 2020
The All Progressives Congress flagbearer in last Saturday Governorship election, Pastor Ize-Iyamu, has called on Governor Godwin Obaseki who defeated him at the polls to return to the APC.

In a television broadcast on Wednesday night, Ize-iyamu said, “We are going to talk to everybody; we are going to bring everybody back. I want to salute my brother, the governor. I will like to appeal to him to return to the party. In every family, we have disagreement.

“Let it not be said that it was this disagreement that pushed him out. I made that mistake before and I have come to realise that it was a grievous error and I will not want him as a senior brother to make the same mistake.

“I will like to appeal to him to set aside his anger and come back. In APC, he is recognised as a leader and it would be difficult for him to be recognised as a leader in the new party he is going.”

Politics / We Don’t Want You In Ekiti PDP, Fayose Tells Ojudu, Adeyeye by yankeenowo(m): 8:58am On Jul 03, 2020
Following the on-going crisis in Ekiti state chapter of the All Progressives Congress(APC) , former governor, Ayodele Fayose has told the Special Adviser to President on Political Matters, Senator Babafemi Ojudu and former Minister of Works, Senator Adedayo Adeyeye, to not think about coming to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Fayose said the party is not in need, neither is it interested in the defection of the duo into the party despite their differences with Governor Kayode Fayemi, “because they have no electoral values”.

Ojudu and Adeyeye, who are members of the APC are currently at dagger drawn with Fayemi over the governor’s alleged dictatorship and victimisation of members of the party.

Based on this feud, when asked whether the aggrieved APC leaders will join the PDP while appearing on a radio programme in Ado Ekiti, Ojudu discountenanced the speculation, saying he would never contemplate such move.

Ojudu said; “If I die and they put PDP flag on my coffin, I will wake up, tear it and go back to sleep”.

Enraged by the derisive comment, Fayose, in a statement, on Thursday, by his Media Aide, Lere Olayinka said: “Apart from them not having electoral values, they are blackmailers and individuals whose needs are insatiable. Above all, God’s anger has caught up with them in their inordinate quest for power”.

The former governor described Senator Ojudu as a political “opportunist”, who is always fighting for his own selfish gains, saying; “he fought against Niyi Adebayo, myself, Segun Oni and he is fighting Fayemi now. Who will please him in Ekiti?”, Fayose asked.

Speaking further,  the former governor added:” He (Ojudu) is a political opportunist, a senator by accident, who is always striving to destroy any government in which he can’t have his way.

“Therefore,  he can continue with his usual voyage of political blackmail, that is his business and that of his Coronavirus infected APC party.

“As for us in the PDP, we are not interested in making any gain from the reckless political life of a man who does nothing other than to destroy the government of Ekiti”.

Also, a chieftain of the APC and former Deputy Governor, Surveyor Abiodun Aluko, appealed to the aggrieved APC leaders to embrace reconciliation efforts and allow Fayemi to consolidate and deliver the dividends of democracy to Ekiti people.

“The Fayemi government now pays salary and pension regularly before the end of the month unlike before when the government was owing six to nine months salaries and pension despite regular federal allocations, bailouts, Paris refund, budget support funds, which are not available now.

“Road networks in each of the Senatorial districts are on-going; the industrial revolution in the agricultural sector in the rice, cassava and ethanol, Ikun dairy, and so on. The hitherto abandoned social and economic infrastructures like the Civic Centre, Ikogosi Warm Spring, the Ado Ekiti Central market, Schools renovation, are nearing completion now.

“It’s when we all support the governor without distraction that he can do more and perform to the optimum so that Ekiti people can always prefer APC to any other political party in all future elections and ensure continuity of delivery of good governance and development of Ekiti in all facets of life”, he said.

Politics / Primaries: Omoregie Steps Down For Obaseki by yankeenowo(m): 1:10pm On Jun 24, 2020
The member representing Oredo Federal Constituency, Hon Omoregie Ogbeide Ihama has stepped down for Governor Godwin Obaseki in the coming Peoples Democratic Party’s primary.

Omoregie also promised to withdraw the court case he filed over the matter today.

He made the decision after all the aspirants for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship primary in Edo State agreed to settle out of court.

The Federal High court sitting in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, had on Tuesday restrained the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki from participating in the PDP primary election.

Ogbeide-Ihiama had approached the court asking for the Governor, who just joined the PDP from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to be stopped from participating in the primaries.

Ogbeide-Ihiama argued that since Obaseki was not part of the candidates screened by the PDP National Working Committee, NWC initially before the date on the timetable lapsed, he should not be allowed to participate in the primaries.

However, on Wednesday morning, all the parties in the Edo PDP governorship primary election case holding in the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, agreed to settle their squabbles out of court.

Lead Counsel to the Plaintiff, Ferdinand Orbir, according to a report, at the resumed hearing of the matter this morning, told the court that they have served all the parties to the suit as ordered by the court, the originating summons and also published the order in two national newspapers.

He, however, told the court that the parties have opted for out of court settlement.

Politics / Flight Simulation Holds Saturday, FG Gets Restart Plan Wednesday by yankeenowo(m): 9:17pm On Jun 23, 2020
The Federal Government on Monday said it would carry out a simulation trial of domestic flight operations at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos on Saturday as it prepares to reopen the country’s airspace to commercial flights.

It also assured Nigerians that airfares would not be outrageously high as speculated by many, based on plans to begin the social distancing rule onboard flights.

This came as the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority declared that it would submit the aviation restart plan to the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 on Wednesday.

Speaking at Monday’s briefing of the PTF in Abuja, the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, doused concerns about a possible hike in airfares when commercial flights resume.

“Well, that (airfare hike) may not necessarily be the case, because as I speak to you, day in day out, we’ve been meeting with stakeholders in the industry to find out how best to open the industry,” he said.

He added, “So we are doing everything to ensure that tickets’ prices are not skyrocketed. They may be different but they will not be something that passengers cannot afford.”

On the preparedness to open the airports for Flights, he said, “Flight trials will be demonstrated on Saturday in Lagos airport ahead of the resumption of operations.”

In a similar development, the Director-General, NCAA, Capt. Musa Nuhu, said during a stakeholders’ forum that the aviation sector restart plan would be submitted to the PTF  on COVID-19 on Wednesday, June 24.

“We are yet to get there but we are pretty close. The plan is that by Wednesday, we will submit our report to the PTF. I reiterate, we are pretty close,” he stated.

Nuhu noted that the authority did not need to have all the airlines, airports or the ground handlers ready before it restarts the system.

The NCAA boss also stated that the non-operation of commercial flights had dragged down the authority’s revenue by 90 to 95 per cent.

He said, “We are almost ready. Like I said earlier, not all the airlines and airports have to be necessarily ready before the restart. If anything goes wrong, the NCAA will be held responsible.

“Sometime this week, the proposed restart date will be made known. If the airports get it right, the airlines job will be made easier. The airlines that have disinfected their aircraft should show proof to NCAA.”

The Chairman, NCAA COVID-19 Committee, Godwin Balang, said the authority had to develop aviation restart guidelines on uncharted grounds, adding that it issued regulations in compliance with the International Civil Aviation Organisation Standard and Recommended Practices.

Balang said, “Restart and recovery guidelines are based on 10 key principles which are to protect people in harmonised but flexible measures; and work as one aviation team and show solidarity.”

Others, according to him, include to ensure essential connectivity; manage safety, security and health related risks; and make aviation public health measures work with aviation safety and security systems; etc.

This came as the Area Manager, West Africa for the International Air Transport Association, Samson Fatokun, announced free training offer to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria in order assist FAAN with IATA’s expertise

Politics / FG Decides On Interstate Travel Ban, Others Next Week by yankeenowo(m): 7:20am On Jun 23, 2020
The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 said on Monday it had started reviewing the guidelines for lifting of the ban on interstate travels.

Speaking at the daily press briefing of the PTF in Abuja, the National Coordinator of the task force, Dr Sani Aliyu, said the roads would be opened when the bus termini in the country all had COVID-19 preventive measures in place.

Aliyu stated this as the PTF Chairman, Boss Mustapha, disclosed that the Federal Government would next week decide on its lockdown policies, including the ban on interstate movements.

The PTF coordinator said the guidelines submitted by the Minister of State for Transportation, Gbemisola Saraki, was being reviewed and the roads would be opened as soon as it is safe to do so.

He said, “At the moment, we still have restrictions on interstate travel. But we have been linking up with the Federal Ministry of Transportation through the Minister of State for Transportation.

They have given us guidelines that they have developed: very detailed guidelines, and we have looked at them, summarised them and discussed at PTF last week.

“We have asked the Minister of State for Transportation to please engage with the road transport workers to make sure that the usual garages and parks that we have are ready in terms of guidelines that we have in place such as physical distancing, reducing the number of passengers per vehicle and provision of handwashing facilities etc.

“And I believe they are already working on this and hopefully, we should be able to open as soon as it is safe to do so.”

Aliyu who expressed worry over the lack of compliance with safety protocols and urged states to increase the rate of their COVID-19 testing also asked them to make laws to make the wearing of masks in public space mandatory.

FG to take decision month end

Meanwhile, Mustapha, said the Federal Government would at the end of the month take a crucial decision on the lockdown declared to curtail the spread of COVID-19.

Mustapha said, “At the beginning of the month of June, the PTF announced a one-month period for the implementation of the second phase of eased lockdown.

“We have continued to monitor developments nationwide in order to take informed decisions at the end of the month. We have exactly eight days to that point of decision.”

While answering a question on whether the government might consider a total lockdown again, Mustapha assured Nigerians that the decision that would be taken by month end would not any way amount to a change in strategy.

He said if there would be a change in strategy, it would be expected to come from the side of Nigerians.

Crime / Re: Oh No!! Nigerian Man Stabs Wife To Death And Then Commits Suicide In Lekki by yankeenowo(m): 8:16pm On Jun 22, 2020
UPDATE! Couple Involved In Murder/Suicide In Lekki Were Scheduled To Get Married In August

The couple involved in the Murder/Suicide incident in Victory Park estate in Lekki, Lagos state on Sunday, June 21, were scheduled to get married this August.
The couple Chris Ndukwe, 39, and Olamide Alli, 25, were said to have been dating on and off for over 7 years.

They have a seven-year-old son and then had a second son, three years ago.

However, trouble started when Chris began to doubt the paternity of their second child, insisting the child isn’t his.

According to the friend, what is quite shocking to them is that Chris was still going on with the plans to marry Olamide in August while he was nursing such a plan. The friend who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Chris had called a comedian a few weeks ago to book him for their forthcoming nuptials.

”There have been an issue that has been coming up about the second child. He planned to get married to her in August. He had told friends about it.

This is the most confusing for everyone.

He had called a comedian earlier to tell him he was going to be the MC at the occasion.

He had told our older friends that are doctors that they would accompany him to go do the normal legal rites.” he said

The friend said Chris and Olamide were never living together.

He said Olamide usually takes the boys to the house to see Chris. He said on Saturday they went for jogging and when they returned, she offered to give him dinner.

Later that night, she went to his room to spend some time with him while her sister was in the room with the boys, and that was when he committed the murder-suicide.
Crime / Oh No!! Nigerian Man Stabs Wife To Death And Then Commits Suicide In Lekki by yankeenowo(m): 4:00pm On Jun 22, 2020
A Nigerian man simply identified as Femi, stabbed his wife to death, and thereafter committed suicide in their home in Victory Park estate in Lagos state on Sunday, June 21.

According to residents of the estate, the couple moved into the estate three weeks ago with their two young children. Not much was known about the couple but just a day before the murder-suicide, they were spotted jogging together on Saturday night June 20.

However, on Sunday, the man who is said to have always questioned the paternity of their second child, stabbed his wife to death, and then took his own life.

A neighbor who spoke on condition of anonymity said;

"On Sunday afternoon, neighbors close to the couple's apartment heard loud music emanating from their home and this lasted for many hours.

The neighbors went to the estate office to complain about the loud music and insisted the estate officials go there and caution the couple.

The estate authorities went to the couple's compound to appeal to them to turn down the volume of the music coming from their apartment.

They however met with the wife's sister who was downstairs with the couple's children. The sister immediately went upstairs so she can inform her sister and the husband about the complaint laid by the estate authorities. She knocked several times but got no response.

After waiting for so long, the sister and the estate officials decided to pull the door down. They were greeted by a horrific sight.

Apparently, the man had killed his wife. It is believed it was pre-meditated because when they got into the room, they saw different kinds of knives there. The woman's legs and hands were bound and her mouth shut with a cellotape. The husband used a clipper to shave her hair, stabbed her head, her eyes, stabbed her multiple times with different knives.

The scene was nothing short of a horror movie.

After stabbing his wife to death, the man committed suicide by drinking sniper''

Spokesperson of the state police command, Bala Elkana who confirmed the incident said;

"It is true. Homicide detectives have sealed up the place. They have commenced investigation. The corpse of the man and the woman have been moved to the hospital for an autopsy.

Two kitchen knives were found there and two bottles of Sniper. The woman had injuries from stabbing while foams were coming out of the man's mouth who is suspected to have taken those Snipers.

Investigation is ongoing''

Crime / LASTMA Reacts After Its Staff Were Caught Counting N250,000 Extorted From Road U by yankeenowo(m): 3:43pm On Jun 22, 2020
Some officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) caught allegedly counting the money they extorted from motorists have landed in trouble.

LASTMA officials who extorted money from road users finally exposed

After a Nigerian man identified as Ibukun Mike exposed some officials of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) counting the money they extorted from him and other four road users, the agency has reacted.

Narrating how the shameful incident occurred, Ibukun Mike said it happened on May 15, 2020.

He acknowledged that he and other road users were guilty of taking “one way” but he explained that they did so because there was a road block on the side of the road they were supposed to pass.

According to Mike, a LASTMA official from the “Masamasa” (Maza-Maza) LASTMA office stopped them and took them to his office where he allegedly collected 50,000 Naira in cash from each of them without giving them receipts.

In a video shared by Mike, a woman is seen counting the money allegedly extorted from those arrested.

Mike claims the officer who did the extortion left the office and asked his assistants seen in the video to count the money.

Reacting to the video, LASTMA said they are carrying out an investigation.

They tweeted:

“Our attention has been drawn to the recent video making rounds about extortion from our officers. The Agency has taken note of this even as investigation has commenced. The officers involved will be summoned for subsequent disciplinary action, if found guilty. @jidesanwoolu.

“We urge the public to continue to report any errant officer(s) to the agency via any of the channels provided.@followlasg.”

Well, mayb his spirit directed him to unscrew.....I am just learning though!!!
