Pharaoh9: You lack sense, you're trying to say Nigerians who now have US green card are no longer Nigerians just like Whole Soyinka who couldn't drop his US green card after betting to tear it if Trump wins,
Most African Americans are now carrying out DNA ancestry test to know their root, some adopt African names... go to YouTube and watch African Americans taking Igbo names in the naming ceremony and are proud, some have adopted other African countries as theirs, very soon that DNA ancestry test will be rampant and everybody will know where they belong
There are Igbos in the SE who don't want Biafra and it doesn't change the to another tribe,
If you think Obama is not a Kenyan because he is US citizen then I think you have a problem First of all. There is a difference between green card and us citizenship. I don't doubt that African Americans are trying to know their roots, my question is how many of them will drop their American citizenship for that of any African country?? Yes our ancestors might have migrated from Igbo land but we are not and will never be biafra! |

Igbo as a language and people is still limited to the native inhabitants who speak it as their first language of identity.

Not by geographical location or political affiliation.
The watchword is LANGUAGE!
Let me paint a picture for you: supposing you an your father were in Lagos and conversing in your language and a stranger identifies you as Igbo by the LANGUAGE you speak, how silly will it look explaining you're not Igbo but you and your daddy speak the language as the only cultural language of identification!

I have long since suspected you guys have a phobia for anything Biafra.
And your fears just managed to spill out of your last posts. I have not Biafra in my mind when I state my mind here.
Even if Igbos in Rivers claim their Igbo heritage, they can still opt out of Biafra movement if they so wish.
Denying your heritage and history is bad for the posterity of your children. It is worse than what Europeans did to the entire Africa. Whether biafra or not. We are not Igbo or at least we are no longer igbo. Finito. |

Until you give a tangible reason why some rivers indigenes bear Igbo names, Igbos and every other Nigerian will continue to see you guys as igbos, except when they want to play politics. Stop bearing Igbo names and people will take your people serious. Make no mistake I never said we are not Igbo migrantes. But as of today we are no longer igbo. It's just part of our history. |

Why the fear of Biafra?you sound like a Yoruba man to me but that's by the way Drop this history shit??Lol,u must be dyslexic.do you know how many African Americans are dieing to know their roots?go to the carribeans and see the Afro carribeans embracing their African roots and practicing our religion -Santeria,voudon etc. Even the whites, asians, arabs,Indians value their history and culture .You can't be addressed as a human if you don't even know where you're from.what makes you different from a goat or a dog on the street??the so called names you bear came from somewhere and they have meanings where did it come from??when ur kids ask you all these questions about your history I guess you'll tell them they are part of the human race and they shouldn't ask further questions.ewu You don't have to be insulting. I won't condensed to your level. We bare igbo names in our communities and between our people. That is indicative of our history with the Igbos. That dose not in any way mean we want to join biafra. And yes biafra is a great fear to me because of the risks it poses. Eg claiming non willing communities as part of them. As for the African American you claim want to know their root, you are right on that. But how many of them would want to drop their American Nationality and claim that of Africa where their ancestors came from?? That's the same way we from Rivers state would NEVER drop Niger Delta for biafra. NEVER! |

You were the one who traced history to say your ancestors married Igbos and all, yet their villages and names are Igbo!
If you knew they intermarried Igbo then you should know who they were before the marriage and what language they spoke.
Every honest Nigerian knows Igbo denial by Igbos living on the borderlines came during and after the civil war Fine I agree Igbo denial came after the civil war. We want to maintain it that way. The only constant in life is change . So we have changed. We are no longer igbo. Are u satisfied now?? Or do I want to force me to be Igbo?? |

OK fine my ancestors were supposedly Igbo does that make me igbo especially when it comes to the issue of joining biafra?? HELL NO! The slaves that left the shores of Africa 100s of year ago, does that make there descendants which are present day African Americans Africans?? Has any group of them or even one of them in present day dropped their American Nationality to pick up that of any African country?? Barack Obamas father was a Kenyan. Does that make Barack Kenyan?? Like I said, drop this history shìt. You can't move forward while looking at the rear mirror. Leave communities that not want to join biafra alone irrespective of their historical back ground. So what is your language and names before the Igbo intermingling? Look you guys need to drop this history shìt and deal with the present. After all its not my ancestors that might have migrated from Igbo land that will vote in the referendum!!! I don't care what names we bare or where we migrated from, the present day Ijaw, Ikwerre, Etche, omuma Oyigbo man etc from rivers state all in one voice or at least the overwhelming majority say they are NOT Igbos! That's what counts! If you want to keep tracing roots pls take it all the way back to the time of Adam and Eve! |
Politics › Re: Is Ogu-bolo In River State Igbo Or Ijaw?: See Towns And Village Names by YelloweWest: 10:18pm On Apr 26, 2017 |
MultiCEO1: Igbo is a nation. Ikwerre, Ika, Nkwerre, wawa, Ngwa, etche, Igbere, etc are all tribes in the igbo nation. I am an Igbere man from Abia state. you are Ikwerre from rivers. If you are not Igbo. I am not Igbo. If you claim Ikwerre, then I claim Igbere. Igbo has over 200 dialects with Abia state alone having more than 30. A dialect becomes a language if it loses mutual intelligibility with the mother tongue. Ikwerre has not lost that. Igbere has not lost that. That mutual intelligibility in the Igbo language which ensures that an ikwerre man or Igbere man from the interior can fairly understand the 'central Igbo' or the igbo language of a real cosmopolitan city without aid or requiring interpretation even if he can only speak his dialect is what makes and leaves us all Igbo. You can hardly understand my dialect if you ate not from my place. Same with an ikwerre man. But the moment I step down to the central Igbo language, the confusion will be settled. This can't be if an ikwerre, Ibere, igbere, waka or nteje man goes to the north or south. Meanwhile, Ijaw is Ijaw. Ijaw is not an ethnic group in the Igbo nation, same with many other tribes in old eastern region.
Ikwerre, Nkwerre, Igbere, Ibere are all tribes in the Igbo nation. I'm Ikwerre. I'm NOT Igbo! |

lezz: @ the emboldened! That is the dumbest strain at logic I have read so far all year .
You bear English name out of colonisation and subjugation while still bearing your local names and surname.
Were you colonised or educated by Igbos?
What's your own native names before you began bearing Igbo names?
Did your father and his father not bear Igbo names as well? We married into and married from Igbo. We traded with Igbos and had other relationships. I don't know exactly how we took on Igbo names but for the mere fact that we say we are not and don't ever want to be Igbo, isn't that enough?? I expect you people to say these are not Igbo communities and not try to claim us by force! |

Politics › Re: Is Ogu-bolo In River State Igbo Or Ijaw?: See Towns And Village Names by YelloweWest: 9:59pm On Apr 26, 2017 |
MultiCEO1: Let me answer that question. You can only adopt a name from another language either through religious conquest, as in Islam/Christianity, colonialism as the English names got to us, intermarriage, social relationship or you are simply one of them. To ask if answering English name makes you English sounds very daft and mischievous. You answer English name because of our relationship with the British, I.e., slavery, Christianity, colonialism. you can only take on a peoples name through either of these, or intermarriage/trade or you are one with them. There you go with nonsensical theory. You still have not answered the question. CAN THE BRITISH CLAIM ME AS THEIR OWN BECAUSE I HAVE AN ENGLISH NAME?? THE SAME WAY YOU GUYS ARE TRYING TO CLAIM RIVERS STATE COMMUNITIES BECAUSE OF THEIR IGBO NAME. |
