I created a post on Diamond Pet Food recalls entitled "Diamond Dog Food poisons people etc" it definitely belongs in the food section as I was not able to find a section on animals/pets. However, this is the first time that a Pet food product is poisoning HUMAN BEINGS. I created another topic called: "Have you been poisoned by Diamond Dog Food?", under the food section. In this post I talk about how to protect yourself from the Diamond Salmonella outbreak. I believe this post should go under the Nairaland's Health section. Can I post it in the health section as well?

There is a lot on the web about the Diamond Pet food recalls, but what do you do if you suspect food poisoning.

In Lagos, a lot of Nigerians buy dog food and put the security guard or dog handler in charge of feeding our dogs. In such cases, and there has been a few cases, the owner of the house was told that his security guard had fallen sick. Two days later, the meguard was still not back and the owner was getting frustrated. The owner does not suspect that the cause of the meguard's illness could be simply handling contaminated dog food. In the meantime, his house help is not feeling well either. Anyway this case is still ongoing, I suspect that the origin of the problem could be the dog food, but it could also be something else. Tests are ongoing. What is for sure though: The dog owner switched to Diamond Pet Food because of a 32% discount promotion he saw on Facebook. Until he switched he had had no problems.

When food is cheap, think twice before buying it.

People who think they might have become ill after contact with dry pet food or with an animal that has eaten dry pet food should consult their health care providers. Infants, older adults, and persons with impaired immune systems are more likely than others to develop severe illness.

People who think their animal might have become ill after eating dry pet food should consult their veterinary-care providers.

Read Additional Information for Pet Owners to learn the signs and symptoms of salmonellosis in dogs and cats, and to understand how to deal with possible Salmonella illness in your pet.

Also, be aware that dogs may be infected with Salmonella - and may shed the bacteria in their stool - without showing any outward symptoms of illness. If your pet has consumed a Diamond Pet Foods dry dog food, be especially careful to wash your hands after handling it, and supervise closely any interaction between children and your pet.

This has been going on for a while, unfortunately Diamond Dog food has sold their product at such a cheap price sellers and buyers have rushed it.
I could not live with myself if I poisoned my dogs and luckily my dogs are fussy when it comes to food oh!!
On a more serious note, this food recall is very important because human beings are falling sick simply because they handled the food.
This is new. I will continue the alerts and hope that the real dog people will not out there will see this and think twice before buying Diamond dog.

My advice:

1) Check where the dog food comes from. (origin)
2) Don't be fooled by the low price. If it is too good to be true, be careful.
3) Buy the dog food from supermarkets. If there is ever a problem, you can return the item. .
4) If there is a 'rumour' flying around about your dog food, please check online. It is only one click away.
5) Love your pets, they deserve better.
