And what makes you think it won't dip further considering the all around bad news. The Government has to take security serious. You'll see the effect of Okpella & Okomu attack in the coming weeks when investors start doing their Scenario analysis and portfolio rebalancing after Qtr2. If it can happen to Okomu, ... what stops it from happening to Presco & ...

The synopsis are not looking good, I am afraid.

if you do not see the effect of Okomu attack this week, why will it be next week that you will see the effect. I want to understand why?

If the Fed govt could not do that for the international oil companies that contribute to our FX and GDP then what hope is there for OKOMU

My prayer is for it to dip further so i can accumulate the quantity i set as target and to average down my cost from N22 which is better than having the unit cost above N27 (for the dividend hunters rushing it last week) and getting N2.3 as dividend
well, for companies, the 2.3 might still be the better option as it's a nontaxable income. A way of tax saving strategy compared the 30% they'd be charged on trading incoming should they decide to go the routing of realizing gain on capital appreciation

FBN Holdings wishes to notify the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) and the investing public that the company is yet to publish its unaudited financial statements for the first quarter ended March 31, 2024 (Q1 2024 UFS) by April 30, 2024, as required under the rules of the NGX.

This is due to the delays in finalising in finalizing the audited financial statements (FY’2023 AFS) of the group for the year ended Dember 31, 2023.

FBNH plans to publish both the FY’2023 and the Q1 2024 UFS on or before May 30, 2024, by which time, we expect that the necessary approval would have been obtained from the primary regulator”.

Now you see what i am talking about.

After selling at 26.9 and today price closed at 22 that's already N4.9 out.

Who dividend help?

entered at 22 and will start averaging down from there.

My holding will be more and profitable than grabbing the dividend and re-entering with it

Observed psychology of the market around dividend is working. Well done for the observation. I have noted a price drive up pre-dividend by the dividend herds and a price slump post dividend driven by the post dividend bears too on many liquid dividend paying stocks. But never took time to quantify it or act on it.

Also there is the general post dividend season bears that usually pull prices down from May to August. That has been observed by many on this forum too. With the current macro despair (high interest rates, inflation, reduced purchasing power etc), these bears may pull down prices this year unlike last year when there was optimism. However, some sellers may realize taking profit too cheaply may be a double jeopardy with the high inflation and therefore not sell with deep discounts. Make we day watch. Some TA people may be able to see more with their tools grin

I guess you missed the sarcasm.... Saying dividends are traps is the same as saying TA does not work, or FA is a waste of time.

It is an open market. Therefore, there are 1000 ways to kill a mocking bird. All you need to do is just to master one of those ways and you can kill as many mocking birds as you want.

Then there's the question of consistency. Have you consistently applied your strategy year after year with success, or is this just a one-time win?

It's like my colleague who wins a few high-odds sports bets in a row and suddenly declares himself a master, mocking me for not following his supposed cash cow.

Well, let me tell you how it ended: variance. Without a solid understanding of probability, variance eventually takes back what it gives. cheesy grin grin wink

But to be honest, we apply calculus every day. The fact that we don't perform the dy/dx calculations on paper does not make it any less calculus. When you estimate or look for patterns on a chart, you are performing millions of computations in your head. So, yes, calculus is necessary for trading, at least in terms of describing the actions you took. wink
