The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the 27 lawmakers at the Rivers State House of Assembly who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) have lost their seats forever.

The party said this in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Debo Ologunagba, in Abuja.
Ologunagba said that the clarification was necessary following a mischievous report on social media claiming that there were plots to compromise the party’s position to return the defected lawmakers to their seats

Our party therefore stands by its position that the affected members have since lost their seats in the Rivers State House of Assembly, having committed an unpardonable constitutional breach
“For the avoidance of doubt, the PDP, in its counterclaim by its National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, in Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/1681/2023 filed at the Federal High Court Abuja, stated clearly:

“That the former Rivers State lawmakers “are no longer members of the Rivers State House of Assembly from Dec. 11, 2023, when they publicly announced their defection from the PDP to the APC.

“For emphasis, the PDP in the said suit seeks, among others, the following Declaration/Orders against the former Rivers State lawmakers,’’ he said.

He added: “A declaration that by provisions of Section 109 (1)(g) of the Constitution of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), the seats of the plaintiffs have been vacant since Dec. 11, 2023, when the plaintiffs announced their defection to the APC.
“A declaration that the plaintiffs are no longer members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, having defected to the APC on Dec. 11, 2023.

“An order directing the first defendant (INEC) to conduct bye-election in the respective constituencies of the plaintiffs in compliance with the provisions of the laws
“An order of perpetual injunction restraining the plaintiffs from parading themselves and/or further parading themselves or from performing or further performing the functions and duties of members of Rivers House of Assembly.” (NAN)

Who noticed that since the very day Seriake Dickson visited Sim Fubara, he's beginning to grow some balls.
SIM needed someone to remind him that he's an Ijaw man with power on his hands.

Normal! The earlier this defection issue is settled once and for all, the better for deepening our democratic and constitutional processes. You can't eat your cake and still have it.

That’s simply it. That’s the constitution. There’s nothing anyone can do about it. They left the party with pomp and pageantry. They cannot return to PDP secretly while waiting to decamp against just before 2027. PDP has been looking out for ways to pay back Wike in his own coin. Wike too has admitted that he is the mistake maker of the century with all his greedy choices.

The lawmakers may return in the future if they are politically useful and truly remorseful, but the party for now, demands its pound of flesh from them.
Just as they exercised their rights by defecting from PDP, in return PDP can exercise its right to reject their return.

One continues to wonder why lawmakers are the chief lawbreakers. It should be that once any of them defects from party A to party B, he should be made to vacate the house immediately by the speaker or senate President, depending on which body is affected.

In ensuring that the laws they make are properly adhered to, they can be said to be contributing to the deepening of our democracy.

I think it's the statement by ngalari that the president won't take any side

Without presidential backing fully behind wike not partly ooh... He stands absolutely no chance

People think u need the national Assembly to survive impeachment... You don't

The most important is the chief judge... Because he would have to find you guilt first na before impeachment can happen

Wike in the mud.

If PDP stay true to their word, it means it's only a matter of time before the 27 lawbreakers get booted out..

It might drag on for so long, but they will eventually be sent packing..

All these because of the exuberance and pride of one man,,
in his bid to prove to Tinubu that he's loyal to APC,
He sent those 27 lawbreakers on a suicide mission of no return...

Serve them right. This is how it should be for a little decency. How can a party sponsor you to a position only for you to abandon them, switch to their opponents and still wants to enjoy the benefits? It is absurd to even fathom it.
Infact there should be a law against it for them to resign, step down before changing party. Period!

Very true. Dickson did not just stop there, he has been visiting other Ijaw leaders like Goodluck Jonathan and E.K Clarke over this crisis. Somehow, they must have given Fubara some form of assurance that the presidency will not interfere.

now that the APC has killed and eaten this country up both home and abroad where is PDP to fight with protest just the way APC did to them but they are there doing "food is ready come and eat".

this two party's will kill this dear country and useless gullible Nigerians.
