I stay in Aba. The hype that came with the commissioning of geometric has not lived up to expectation. Only few areas who are in the minority are enjoying regular power supply from geometric power station while the rest are under epileptic supply sourced via TCN.

About two weeks I went to a place near Ngwa road, Ogwo road, I noticed that Aba power has started free mass metering in areas that have been connected to geometric.

My observation is that DISCOs will not generate much revenue if all customers have prepaid meters when the power is epileptic and insufficent. They prefer estimated billing, because they can generate revenue for supplying darkness. But if power is sufficient and stable, they will do free mass metering to generate much revenue.

There are 3 shops in our compound that share a prepaid meter. About a month ago, their balance was 4.10kwh. The credit has not exhausted because of poor supply. If it was estimated bill, they would have spent 10,000 in just 2 months.

I built five units of one bedroom as rental property and I spent more than 1.5 Million in providing meter for each unit. Water full my eyes. It was free at some point o.

Let me surprise you here, in my area I have been spending 2,000 naira per month consistently on electricity token for the past 6 months. With epileptic power supply and load shedding of "one day on, one day off" and some times we dont even get the light on the day on. And from my findings around my area, I am an above average consumer as some hardly consume 1 thousand naira worth of token per month. The surprise here is that the consumers on estimated billings are billed 20,000 naira. I don't know how the disco come about these estimates, estimated billing is a rip off and the regulator is the enabler

This is 100% correct about prepaid meter. They used to Charge me N16,000.00 on estimated billing, but after I bought Prepaid Meter, Use units of N8,000.00 for three months. This is after they deduct 25% of the amount because of the accumulated arrears

This is exactly why the electricity bill was increased. DISCOs were losing revenue due to regular grid collapse. They want to maintain their revenue based despite poor electricity supply

I happen to be among the people they serve estimated billing monthly and it is ridiculous. We have applied for prepaid meters but they refuse to give us after paying the processing fee. Few years back Mr Fashola instructed "No Meter no payment" but that didn't stop them from bringing Bill. We are served 3 different bills every month in one compound why my neighbors get 1 bill to share among same 4 flat building. Let me also point to another fraud happening that nobody noticed. The people using prepaid meter by pass their meter by the help of a nepa official. Nepa have some unmetered people that run a shop like welder, people making ice block shops e.t.c. I have a welder friend in my area who just tap light and give the nepa guy 2k every month. All those lapses end up at the estimated Bill. That's why they metered every transformer. Imagine paying 75k every month for a house. It is only God that will deliver us from this Vampires.

Very plausible...cos my Dad's place ...within 2 yrs, Electricity estimated billing went up to over N100k. In addition, the DisCos guy was collecting cash from the tenants. Now, we have installed prepaid meters. My other tenants pay N10k per year for a common prepaid meter per year...we had to reduce it to N5k because they still have so many units after 1yr. So PrePaid Meter is the way to go. If you are with IBEDC, this is how you get PrePaid Meter.

1. Go to https://msms.ibedc.com/map/ and with your old account, you can apply for MAP ID.
2. Then follow the process or go to their office
3. They will check if you have balances and move it to the new account
4. You might need to bribe them to come out to do a Tech Evaluation...sadly they can be useless.
5. Once Billing and Tech Evaluation is done, pay ONLINE...don't be a fool and pay into individual's account
6. Once payment is confirmed online, they will install your PrePaid Meter within 10 business days.

Do NOT wait on them. They will keep telling you they don't have prepaid meters. They told my DAD and we have installed over 20 prepaid meters after their excuses and lies.

Discos are not supposed to be the people installing metres, they are happy with estimated bill so they are not willing to install prepaid metre.

Honestly they are insincere with their metering program..they know how much they are making with their guestimated bills . It is corporate fraud . The day I got my meter was the day I got freed from their trouble . My bill dropped from 15k to 5k

This is good observations...

The landlord association and youth leaders representatives in Abia State should write to the NERC to order the DISCO or any meters company to go and installed the meter free to individual house. They will get their money through the VAT on every recharge made on the meter. They can as well make the VAT to be #500 to #1000 and they will program it to the amount they propose to sell the meters. That is installment process, every one will benefit from it.

You have stated it already the reasons why the DISCO don't want prepaid meter installed. If we don't protest on this now, this people will be milking the poor masses

Their intentions ( buyers of DISCOS) was never to give 24/7 Lights but just like any other failed Institutions in Nigeria, get to where quick Money can be made- without any improvement!
The World has since moved - with Ghana and Benin-Republic Not using Generators Again!
Unless these DISCOS are liquidated or are taken over by the Federal Govt and Pay the Owners Off, Nothing can be achieved here!
This is not the way to Our Industilisation! The Present Disco don't have the Structure nor ready to Change!

Some people will be hailing Jonathan and commending him as a performer. The only thing we would have remembered him for, he didn't do it well. GEJ was a big failure. It would have been better, if he left the discos the way they were. Selling the discos, he messed up the power sector of the country.
