My Interview Experience by The6thAustralia: 9:19am On May 04
Last week Friday, I went out in high spirit hoping to get an interview right. It appears no matter how hard you read and prepare for interviews, there are still some questions that'll shake you.
I was asked if I saw two birds fighting in front of my house how do I solve that in relation to the story of a young boy struggling to make sense of a difficult world?.
I stretched my neck forwards with a "sir?". Not that I didn't hear him, but It was hard to add the sentence all up.

The Oga repeated the question but this time slowly, "if you saw two birds fighting in front of your door how can you solve it in relation to the story of a young boy struggling to make sense of a difficult world"?

The question threw me off balance so I said I will chase the birds away so that they can stop fighting. In a split second I realized that was a funny short response.
Maybe I should have said I would go inside and bring some milet for the fighting birds. That would have even sounded more stupid.

In the question, there were two dominant VERBs or action which was "fighting" and "struggling". I should have centered my response on solving those two as a problem.
I suppose the birds were just a pseudonym for children.

When I left, I was so unsettled and worried that I should have nailed the interview and got the job because I really needed it.

While I was in the vehicle on my way home, I thought about checking up the question on Google to understand if I could have answered it better. Nothing like that was on there. But guess what, a young secondary school boy while trying to alight from the Taxi with his bag hit my phone and it feel face down.

It was a mistake and it could have fallen from my hand too. One must learn to over look and move on. I didn't want to hold him for the damage. I felt that's the best way I could have handled the issue.
Oh by the way, It was a job interview at an orphanage home.

Where do they even dig up such questions from!

Firstly , it's as tho na hustle carry you to orphanage home.

The fact that you left out the kind of job speaks volumes!

Nevertheless, when next you are asked such a mundane question. Pause, take a deep breath and answer as slowly as possible.

I have answered questions in interviews that blew the minds of everyone. I will give you an example.

A Christian hospital once asked me if I was going to carry out an abortion at gunpoint!

Dammit! I needed a job, I couldn't lie, and my reputation was at stake. Guess what!
I said at gun point my life is at risk and to be fair,I would do everything to get out alive.
So, I would carry out a fake abortion using a vitamin-c pills instead of the real drugs.

Everyone was stunned at that response.

So my brother that was your chance to demonstrate serious empathy and emotional intelligence. No one answer would have being the best I tell you.

You no wise at all...you will chase the bird...

The answer to that question is simple....

You will pour out grains to distract the fighting bird and you will support the struggling boy by providing psychological help... material or financial

Use the second question to answer the first question

You don't say such abusive words.
You answered the question posted by the OP because you had enough time to process it and must have gotten some clues from other people's response above.

You can make your point but don't say he's not wise. You wouldn't even come up with a reasonable response if you were in his shoes. MR SOLOMON!!!

Interview Experience matters alot, it will make you think forward and be more equipped for subsequent interviews.
We Ace some and learn from others
Don't be troubled it's all a process. Gather yourself together and prepare for the next. You might be surprised that you would be given a second phase for the same Interview. Chance!

Not saying anything at all during the Interview will make it worse.
Cheer up Man.

MR Jehoda, I didn't read anybody's comment...it was a logical question that determine a logical answer. I've done tougher interviews with General managers

Most times how you plan for an interview may play out differently.
My was done 6yrs ago and d question was this.
I applied for an Account/store Officer position in a construction coy. The general manager asked me if you are posted to the creek (most youth are militant) and one day youths barricade your office and demand 500k cash from you as settlement, what will you do.
I had a dip breath and said I know most youth are on hard drug before they act violently, so what I will do is to work on there psycho to know the problem.
They all laffed(examiners) and they ask if I smoke or drink for me to know they are on high drugs.
I kept calm and told them I drink only water.
And to cut the long story I got the job

What should be the answer to the question please?

And by the way, did you now get the job, or at least did they consider you?

To this question, there are no right answer to it, someone might decide to watch the birds fight to death, others might use that opportunity to capture the birds and eat them, some may spread food for them, while others too will chase them away, it all depends on individual perspective and everyone have a different approach to that scenario

I don't want to believe that what your interviewers would use to judge your performance, they just want to know your perspective of that particular scenario

I have being a member of a panel before hiring for one of those top leading Nigerian banks, one of the questions I always ask at the end of the interview is "how do you handle rejection" many candidates don't usually envision such question and most of the time they struggle to answer, how ever that's not a criteria to either pass or fail them

Thanks for the insult. I thought we could make points and suggest answers without belittling others

I understand Bro...

But sometimes the questions are impractical/impracticable to everyday real life situations.

If I see two birds fighting... (scoffs) what concerns me with two birds having couple issues?

Probably a thousand ways to answer this question... But no way to answer without sounding ridiculous.

When I am not a bird!

Bungalows have no stairs. You cannot paint what doesn't exist.

When you promote the wrong person to leadership role, you loses the best hands.. Employer should focus their attention on the junior staff, without the junior staff with experience and good attitude employer will lose their businesses and grant.. Choose wisely.

worked for gave me a query upon return from my wedding introduction. I had verbally informed them two months ahead of my plans of getting married. I was later asked to write, of which I did, seeking permission to be absent on a Friday and Monday, to resume on Tuesday.
I was given an impossible deadline, which was Monday.
My hometown was quite far from the state I worked at (Lagos 🔁 Abia State), so I responded and clearly stated why a resumption on a Monday was not feasible.
I was so tired after the ceremony on Saturday, and couldn't embark on a Sunday journey to enable me resume on Monday. On Monday we hit the road and called to explain the recent development, and got the most rude response from the manager.

Finally, I resumed on Tuesday to meet the beautiful query, of how the company did me a favour to let me go and marry, and I paid them evil by not resuming on Monday. I apologized, and quietly made up my mind to say Goodbye by month end.
By the month end, I resigned. The Manager was so furious and asked why I resigned, in summary, my life and mental health first.
What if I had fainted or died on my way back to resume on Monday, or at work? God forbid.
