The Lawmaker representing Nnewi North in Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Nonso Smart Okafor, has rebuilt a burnt house of a widow in Umuzu Mbana Otolo Nnewi.

The widow, Mrs Eberechukwu Igwilo, a mother of five (5) lost most of her properties through a devastating fire that gutted her house which affected a major part of the house.

Handing over the rebuilt house to the widow and her children, today, Saturday, 26th July, 2020, Hon. Nonso Smart Okafor, said that he was moved to build the house when he received a distress call from one of his constituents who informed him about the devastating effect of the fire that gutted the house of the poor widow.

Kogi State Government has declared a two-day mourning in honor of the victims of the Felele tanker explosion on Wednesday.



The government’s position was contained in a statement issued today by the Kogi Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo.

Most of the 23 victims of the tanker explosion, which occurred in the Felele area of Lokoja, along the Lokoja/Abuja Highway were schoolchildren and students of the state-owned polytechnic.

Fanwo said, “The people are the State. Therefore, the primary responsibility of the Government is to ensure the safety and well-being of the Kogi people.

“As a result of the importance placed on the lives of our people, the government has declared a two-day state mourning to honor the departed souls.

A 20 year old young man identified as Samana Shua’ibu, has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command for allegedly raping a 9-year-old girl after threatening to stab her with a knife in Dini Village, Toro local Government Area of the state.

DSP Mohammad Wakil, who confirmed the news, said that the suspect sneaked into the bedroom of the victim’s mother through the window, threatened to stab the minor before raping her.

The statement reads:

“On 16th/09/2020 at about 0900hrs one Mohammed Sani alias Kawu Sani ‘m’ of Dini Village via Rahama ward Toro LGA Bauchi came to Toro Police Station and reported that on 15th/09/2020 at about 0130hrs one Samana Shua’ibu ‘m’ aged 20yrs of the same address trespassed into his house where he entered his wife’s room through the window and met his daughter by name Hadiza (not real name) ‘f’ aged 9yrs sleeping,” the statement reads.

No fewer than 23 persons including five students of the Kogi State Polytechnic and three children on their way to school have been confirmed dead in a road crash involving a petrol tanker in Felele along the Lokoja-Abuja Highway.

The petrol tanker, which belongs to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation was said to have had brakes failure around 8 am. The tanker fell on five cars, two motorcycles, and three tricycles popularly known as Keke, killing all occupants.

Fire has gutted a section of the headquarters of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Oshodi, Lagos, today.

LASTMA made this known in a statement by its Assistant Director, Public Affairs, Filade Olumide.

The statement was titled, ‘Minor fire incident at LASTMA headquarters’.

LASTMA General Manager, Olajide Oduyoye, was quoted as saying that the “fire was immediately put out”.

He said, “There was a minor fire incident at the LASTMA Headquarters today, September 22, 2020.

“Immediately the fire was noticed on the air conditioner, the headquarters staff following the past fire drill training put out the fire.

“The Fire Service were immediately summoned through a telephone call. The Lagos State Fire Service promptly responded to the call, put out the fire which was still slightly burning from the air conditioner, and ensured that the fire did not spread inside the office it occurred or the whole building.”
