It was supposed to be a sudden offensive and decapitation strike like that of the HTS in Syria that toppled Assad.

He wasn't the only one targeted. The chief of Army staff and head of intelligence were both targeted and have been reported to be severely injured. There are also reports that the residence of the military head of state/President was also targeted.

In all, it was a well coordinated attack. But somehow, the Malian government and the RAC managed to hold out strong despite their intelligence failure.

Time will tell about who planned it. This Israel, US, Iran and Lebanon war has proven to be a great distraction for stuffs elsewhere.

The unusual and significant coordination yesterday between the FLA and JNIM to attack the Mali government is exactly why the Nigerian government should be wary and skeptical of certain groups in the country.

When a group that was unable to achieve their aims politically start wishing the country harm and supports whatever and whoever is against the country, it is always a recipe for disaster.

While I think the FLA is right to demand independence and self determination, their alliance with an Al Qaeda terrorist group speaks volume.

In all, I think it's best when a country has a dominant culture that shapes their laws, public institutions and national identity. Lots of conflicts will be avoided. One of the reasons I will always support most independence movements.
