Effects of Poor Water pH on Catfish

Catfish, like most fish, have a specific range of water pH they thrive in. Deviations outside this range can have various negative consequences, impacting their health, growth, and even survival.

1. Stress and Reduced Immunity:

Acidic water (pH below 6.5): This can cause stress, damage gill tissues, and make catfish more susceptible to diseases and parasites.

2. Impaired Growth and Development:

Both acidic and alkaline water: Can stunt growth, reduce appetite, and negatively impact reproduction.

3. Behavior Changes:

Catfish may become lethargic, lose appetite, and exhibit erratic swimming patterns in response to poor water pH.

Acclimatization: Gradual changes in pH are less stressful than sudden shifts.
