The Nigerian government has implemented several agricultural interventions to address rising food prices and alleviate economic hardship. Key measures include:

1. Duty-Free Food Imports: In July 2024, the government announced a 150-day suspension of import duties on essential food items such as maize, rice, wheat, and cowpeas. This initiative aims to increase food availability and reduce prices.

2. Strategic Food Reserves Release: The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security was directed to release approximately 42,000 metric tons of maize, millet, sorghum, and garri from strategic reserves to stabilize market prices.

3. Financial Allocation to Agriculture: The administration allocated ₦362.94 billion to the agricultural sector to provide fertilizers to farmers nationwide, enhance irrigation infrastructure for year-round farming, and boost overall agricultural productivity.

4. Support for Local Farmers: Efforts are underway to increase the availability of essential farming inputs such as fertilizers and seeds, particularly for small-scale farmers, to enhance local food production and ensure long-term food security.

These interventions are part of a broader strategy to mitigate the impact of rising food prices and improve the cost of living for Nigerians.
