Catfish Diseases, Symptoms, and Practical Treatment Procedures

1. Ich (White Spot Disease)
- Causative Agent: Ichthyophthirius multifiliis (parasite).

- Symptoms: White spots on skin/gills, flashing (rubbing against surfaces), lethargy, rapid breathing.

- Treatment:
1. Gradually raise water temperature to 86°F (30°C) over 48 hours to speed up the parasite lifecycle.

2. Add aquarium salt (1–3 ppt) or treat with formalin (15–25 mg/L) as per product guidelines.

3. Continue treatment for 7–10 days, followed by partial water changes.
