Effects of Poor Water pH on Catfish

Catfish, like most fish, have a specific range of water pH they thrive in. Deviations outside this range can have various negative consequences, impacting their health, growth, and even survival.

1. Stress and Reduced Immunity:

Acidic water (pH below 6.5): This can cause stress, damage gill tissues, and make catfish more susceptible to diseases and parasites.

Alkaline water (pH above 7.5): This can also cause stress, disrupt ammonia excretion, and affect their ability to breathe efficiently.

2. Impaired Growth and Development:

Both acidic and alkaline water: Can stunt growth, reduce appetite, and negatively impact reproduction.

Specifically, acidic water: Can interfere with mineral absorption, leading to skeletal deformities.
