In Nigeria, farming is more than just a job that people do in villages. It helps the whole country grow, provides food for everyone, and makes life better for many families in rural areas. Even though oil is often talked about the most, farming is still a very important part of Nigeria’s economy. In fact, more than 70 out of every 100 people who live in the countryside are farmers or work in something related to farming. This means farming helps many families earn money and live better lives. Farming and Nigeria’s Economy According to Nigeria’s National Bureau of Statistics, farming adds more than 23% to the country's total income (called the Gross Domestic Product or GDP). That makes it the biggest area of the economy outside of oil. Oil prices can go up and down quickly, but farming stays strong and steady. That’s why it’s so important. Unlike oil, which doesn’t give jobs to many people, farming can help millions of Nigerians find work and escape poverty. Farming doesn’t just give us food. It also provides materials that factories need, brings in money from other countries when we sell our crops, and helps the economy stay strong even when oil isn’t doing well. How Farming Helps Nigeria – Easy Facts: 1. Farming Creates Jobs Farming gives more jobs than any other kind of work in Nigeria. Around 35 out of every 100 working people have jobs related to farming. There are many types of jobs in farming: Getting the land ready Planting crops Harvesting crops Storing and processing food Moving food to where it’s needed People who live in states like Benue, Ogun, and Kaduna often rely on farming to feed their families and make money. What Helped This Happen: Farmer Training: Many farmers now get lessons on how to plant better, fight pests, and grow more food. Farming Loans: Some programs like the Anchor Borrowers Programme help farmers borrow money to buy seeds, tools, and machines. Farming Machines: In some places, tractors and other machines are given at lower prices, which helps farmers do more work faster. Big Companies Help: Private farming companies also give jobs to people in food processing, packaging, and transport. Thanks to all of this, many small farmers are now growing more food, making more money, and even selling their crops to other countries!.......Continue Reading Importance of Agriculture |
