Fertilizer/Manure Calculator: A Tool in Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA).
Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) is an approach that guides actions to transform agri-food systems towards climate-resilient practices. Climate-resilient practices are strategies and actions taken to prepare for, cope with, and recover from the negative impacts of climate change. The strategies build the capacity to withstand, adapt to, and transform in the face of evolving climate conditions, aiming to minimize damage and maintain essential functions.
Dolapo-Frank Farmers Organization (NGO), developed Fertilizer/Manure Calculator as a Climate-Smart Agriculture Tool that determines the actual quantity of manure required per Crop stand and the use is crop specific. The three essential benefits of the application are:
(1) Optimizing Nutrient Use: By calculating the precise amount of manure needed per crop stand, the application helps balance nutrient inputs with crop needs. This is a key aspect of Integrated Soil Fertility Management, a CSA practice.
(2) Reducing Waste and Emissions: Precise manure application minimizes excess nutrients that could lead to environmental issues like water pollution or greenhouse gas emissions.
(3) Boosting Productivity: Proper manure application supports sustainable productivity increases, aligning with CSA's goal of Sustainably Increasing Productivity.
