Rodents is the mammals belonging to the order Rodentia, which is the largest mammalian order, accounting for approximately 40% of all mammal species. They are found on every continent except Antarctica and inhabit diverse ecosystems ranging from tropical rainforests and deserts to high-density urban areas.

Surprising Capabilities:

1, Swimming:
Some rats can tread water for up to three days and hold their breath for several minutes.

2, Intelligence:
Rats are highly intelligent, capable of memorizing routes, solving complex puzzles, and even displaying a high-pitched "laughter" during play.

3, Athleticism:
Mice can jump up to a foot high, and some rats can fall from 50 feet and survive.

Key Characteristics:

1, Continuously Growing Teeth:
The defining feature of all rodents is a single pair of upper and lower incisors that grow throughout their entire lives.

2, Constant Gnawing:
To prevent their teeth from overgrowing and piercing their skulls, rodents must constantly gnaw on hard materials like wood, seeds, and even cinder blocks or lead pipes.

3, Diverse Sizes:
They range from the tiny Baluchistan pygmy jerboa, which can sit on a finger, to the capybara, which can weigh up to 150–175 pounds.

4, Fast Reproduction:
Many species, particularly mice and rats, reproduce rapidly. A single female mouse can produce up to 15 litters a year, with offspring reaching sexual maturity in as little as five to six weeks.

Types of Rodents:

1, Mice & Rats:
The most widespread and well-known "pests," including the house mouse, Norway rat, and roof rat.

2, Squirrels & Chipmunks:
Agile climbers that play a vital role in forests by dispersing seeds.

3, Beavers:
Known as "ecosystem engineers," they build dams that create wetland habitats.

4, Porcupines & Guinea Pigs:
Larger rodents with specialized features like quills for defense or domesticated status as pets.

Ecological & Human Impact:

1, Ecological Roles:
Rodents are essential to food webs as a primary food source for predators. They also help aerate soil through burrowing and assist in plant pollination and seed dispersal.

2, Health Risks:
Rodents can carry and transmit at least 35 diseases to humans, including hantavirus, salmonella, and rat-bite fever. They spread these directly through bites and contact with waste, or indirectly via fleas and ticks.

3, Property Damage:
Their gnawing can cause electrical fires by destroying wires and structural damage to buildings, insulation, and plumbing.

4, Research & Pets:
Rodents are invaluable in scientific research due to their physiological similarities to humans and short lifespans. Hamsters, guinea pigs, and rats are also popular pets.
