POULTRY MANURE – The Old Favorite Pros: Very high in nitrogen Fast vegetative growth Easy to get in Nigeria Cons: Can burn crops if not well composted Strong smell Can carry pathogens and weed seeds Overuse can harden soil over time Best used after proper composting, not fresh. --- COMFREY – The Silent Worker Pros: Rich in potassium, calcium, and trace minerals Improves soil structure No burning of crops Can be harvested repeatedly from one plant Excellent for flowering and fruiting crops Cons: Slower effect than poultry manure Not common yet in Nigeria Needs time to establish --- So Which One Is Better? Truth is: they are not enemies. Poultry manure = strong starter (nitrogen boost) Comfrey = long-term soil health and fruiting support Smart farmers combine both: Use composted poultry manure early, then feed crops with comfrey mulch or liquid later. --- Conclusion If you want quick green growth, poultry manure wins.
