Now, to the discussion of the day...
The picture below flashes light on the way plam.oil is generally made in the rural areas. The idea of this discussion is not to discredit this method, it is to at least, encourage the use of Modern machinery in the production of this goldmine.

We all know that palm oil is a goldmine for a lot of reasons. It's an exportable commodity and could be stored for a long time if produced well. But the level hygiene is so low, hence, the need for introducing modern machines into the making.

This, apart from the fact that is reduced dependency on labour, making it almost stress free, it makes your palm oil dirt free, lasts longer on the shelve, cleaner and passes the necessary subjected test for the local and international food regulatory tests and compliance.

So basically, what you need are five (5) machines and Some other apparatus that doesn't require mechanical engineering. Some are optional. But we'll list them, by order of processing.

1. Kernel Bunch tripper
2. Palm kernel Sifter
3. Washer (optional)
4. Steamer
5. Digester
6. Presser
7. Cooking
8. Clarifier

1. THE BRUNCH TRIPPER
So, the job of the bunch tripper is to remove the palm fruits from the palm bunch.

From the below pictures, the first picture is the palm fruit Bunch and the next is the bunch tripper that removes the palm fruits from its bunch.

You can watch the video of the bunch tripper below

2. PALM KERNEL SIFTING MACHINE
After bunch tripping, it is expected that the palm fruits are removed with a lot of detrimental particles like the pines. These are spine-like fibres that can puncture your skin if you try to handle them. There is a very effective machine for this. This is called the palm fruit sifter

watch the video of the sifter below

3. WASHER
The washing machine is an optional machine. Instead of paying thousands of naira for that, many choose to wash by hand. After sifting, this is easy. No pines to cause you any injury

4. THE STEAMER
Steaming commences after washing. The palm fruits are then carefully put into a steel drum to steam. This process could be done by using local drums. But I would always suggest the food grade stainless steel steaming drums. Apart from the fact that it is 100% safe and hygienic, you should not worry about rust or contaminations.

The pictures below is the local steamers and the last one is the food grade stainless steel steaming drum

5. DIGESTER
6. HYDRAULIC PRESSER

After steaming, the now soft and steamed fruits are then thrown into the digester. This process is to separate the outter skin, which contains the palm oil, from the palm kernel nut that is inside.

After digestion, this pulp (the outter later that has been removed) is then put into the presser and you jack for oil to come out.

I am discussing both machines at the same time because of two reasons-

1. While it is cheaper, it is a waste of time and Energy. Because you will need to first digest it, using the digester, then pack it up and put it in the presser and start jacking for palm oil to come out.

2. There is a single machine that automatically does the two jobs at the same time. The name is the AUTOMATIC DIGESTING AND PRESSING MACHINE

You can watch the video of the digester below

You can watch the hydraulic presser below

HONOURABLE MENTION- THE AUTOMATIC DIGESTER AND PRESEER
Though, a bit expensive, but very effective and a refreshing way of producing palm oil with zero stress. The machines simple takes in the steamed palm fruits, digests and presses at the same time. Carefully separating the nuts and outter skin separately and the oil is collected separately

Kindly watch the video of the digester and pressing machine

After pressing, most people just put into the clarifier. This is not right. This is the reason why most palm oil have strong smell. The next step should be cooking the oil from the pressing. This has two advantages
1. It helps increase the shelf life of the palm oil
2. It removes the string smell from the sludge

The last stage would be THE CLARIFIER- This is a non mechanical device that you pour the cooked palm oil into and it separates the oil from water.
