My Watermelon Bucket Garden Adventure In Pictures by RuMiRgO1stSon(op):
Hello house, has anyone try growing watermelon in a bucket before? Pls what's your experience; like disease, poor soil nutrients and all that!
How was your harvest like? Is it worth sharing here? Or you keep it in your closet?😂

Before I'll bored you with my rambling, I'll like to ask you people, to journey with me on my adventure. I want to try growing watermelon in bucket, it's been couple of weeks since I've sow the seeds it has already germinate.
Sit tight and enjoy the ride.

the pic attached is of day 40

I've planted the seeds on Sunday 1st march 2026 after service. Didn't snap picture or record it then, but very optimistic about the outcome.
5th March, that's 4 days after I've sow the seeds, they've started shooting off.

By the way this is the setup, 5 buckets, with two seedlings inside each. My plan is to prune each plant to grow just one vine each.

The 6th day after some of the seeds germinated, these come out strong in terms of vigor than the others.

I went for couple of days break only to meet disaster in the farm (buckets) it rains heavily on that that day, the buckets are half full half empty wink by the rain.
Thanks to God they've recovered
Day 16th of the farm calendar

Day 17th
Kai! Wlh the speed on which the crops recovered overnight has shocked me. Only that as the results of them been battered by the rain, the ones that have grown longer stems curl up, but never loss momentum.

Hello house, how are you all doing today?
Well, it's been a while since I post updates here on my bucket farm. So allow me to hit you with more greenery from the buckets.

So today 26th March, (i.e) 26 days since I've planted the watermelons, I have to admit things are not going really well, something I still can't explain is why the crops aren't uniformly growing? Despite the fact that I sourced the soil from the same spot, plant at the same time, but still turnout like food web! Nevertheless, they looks amazing 😍

This is nice

Tried cucumber in sacks which did really well, currently have Ugu, ewedu and "hospital is too far" in sack... Doing really well, although one of the Ugu died

Was gifted a small potted cactus plant two weeks back... Placed it in the office, it's really amazing to see it grow bigger, as in I don monitor the thing sotey I can readily tell which stem will increase next

Will be following your thread to see if I'll try this... Did you plant seed from the fruit you are or you bought seeds for this?

Apologies guys! Due to one reason or the other, I could not update the thread as I promised to, but by the special grace of God, the thread will swell soon. I've got flowers, both males and female.
What I've started out of boredom now, makes me 😀 ear to ear.
Re: My Watermelon Bucket Garden Adventure In Pictures by RuMiRgO1stSon(op):
Today April 9th, the day I snap the pictures that's 14 days after the last update, the melons has already started sprinting; flowers (male) though one thing I've observed with watermelon is that, during flowering, it usually produces male flowers before female flowers (ovules) will follow. So today, I've discovered my first ovule😁 scouting the buckets farms, since it's five buckets. Will be on steady.
Stay tuned for more updates.

Hi Beautiful people, hope you guys are having a wonderful Monday.!
I'm sorry for not updating the thread as I promised to, I've been to hell and back, this time with some wit to push through the walk of life.
Re: My Watermelon Bucket Garden Adventure In Pictures by RuMiRgO1stSon(op):
I've got pics and videos from the farm before my vacation to the outer worlds. Hope it will worth you guys scrolling.
The day being April 12th, the crops looks promising, only that I lost one bucket to a fungal disease called powdery mildew Powdery mildew is a fungal disease that affects a wide range of plants, including vegetables, fruits, ornamentals, and crops like watermelon.
Sadly the one that died was the most vigorous of the 5 seedlings I've planted.

The first picture is if the diseased plant

The second picture was when the plant was full of life.

Hello people, how Una dey?

I'm back again to finally close this bucket farming project journal that I started a long time ago but abandoned when I turned into Ajala the Traveller. 😄
This time, I no bring grammar or stories. I came with results.
Guys, I've finally eaten the fruit of my labour. 😜
The melons came out sweet like sugar, no exaggeration. The only issue is that they're mini melons. 😂
My guess is that it's because the seeds were recycled. From what I understand, these should be F2 generation seeds, while the person who first grew them enjoyed the full F1 hybrid potential.
That said, I'm still happy with the outcome. From seed to harvest, it was an interesting experience, and at least I can now say the bucket farming experiment was a success.

This is the first fruit from the farm, when I came back from my travel, the first thing I did was taking knife, go straight to the garden, got hold of the first fruit and lo the juiciness 😎😎

I can now declare the bucket farming project is successful
