ABUJA — The Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN), Abuja Chapter, has launched a series of strategic initiatives aimed at transforming poultry farming, reducing production costs, and improving the livelihoods of poultry farmers in the Federal Capital Territory.

The initiatives were unveiled during the association's Mega Poultry Farmers Seminar, held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at the Gwagwalada Education Centre, Abuja, where poultry farmers, industry experts, agribusiness stakeholders, and development partners gathered to discuss the future of Nigeria's poultry industry.

The seminar provided a platform for farmers to acquire practical knowledge on modern poultry production techniques while fostering collaboration among stakeholders to address challenges affecting the sector.

One of the major highlights of the event was an intensive training session on modern brooding management and biosecurity practices. Facilitators equipped participants with practical skills on disease prevention, flock management, and improved poultry production methods to boost productivity and minimize losses.

The seminar also featured the official presentation of the newly elected Executive Committee of PAN Abuja Chapter. The new leadership unveiled its vision of building a stronger, more united, and prosperous association committed to protecting the interests of poultry farmers and promoting sustainable industry growth.

To improve members' competitiveness, the Executive Committee announced several strategic interventions, including the collective procurement of day-old chicks at competitive prices and the bulk purchase of quality poultry feed to lower production costs and increase profitability.

In a move to strengthen coordination within the association, the leadership also disclosed plans to appoint coordinators who will improve communication, enhance member engagement, and facilitate the implementation of programmes across the chapter.

Recognising the financing challenges confronting many poultry farmers, the association revealed that discussions had commenced on exploring agricultural financing opportunities with First City Monument Bank (FCMB) to provide members with improved access to credit for business expansion.

Preparations for this year's World Egg Day celebration also formed part of the deliberations, with participants emphasizing the need to promote egg consumption and raise public awareness about the poultry industry's vital contribution to food security, nutrition, employment generation, and national economic development.

The seminar attracted an impressive turnout, with participants actively contributing to discussions on practical solutions for strengthening poultry production and building a more resilient industry in Abuja.

The Executive Committee commended members, facilitators, and development partners for their overwhelming support and participation, assuring stakeholders that the resolutions reached during the seminar would be faithfully implemented.

The association reaffirmed its commitment to driving innovation, encouraging collaboration, and advancing policies and programmes that will position the Abuja Chapter as a model for sustainable poultry development in Nigeria.
