Jos Farmer Adds One Cheap Device To His Farm, Pepper Harvest Jumps By 400kg by TechnoHub123(op): 10:50pm On Jul 27
Been reading about small hardware Nigerian farmers are quietly adding to their farms, and the numbers are worth sharing here.

A pepper farmer in Plateau State installed solar-powered soil probes from a local agri-tech company called GreenEden. The devices track moisture, temperature and soil pH, and send the readings to his phone so he knows exactly when to water or fertilise, instead of guessing. His harvest jumped by about 400kg, roughly a 20% increase, after the probes went in.

Another Jos farmer, a poultry keeper named Mercy Atsuku, fitted her coop with sensors from Anatsor that track temperature, humidity and air quality. The moment conditions drift into dangerous territory, she gets an alert on her phone. She says it has all but ended sudden flock losses and saved her the nightly checks. The setup cost around $150, about three times the local monthly wage, but the reclaimed time and higher egg production paid it back quickly.

A separate precision-ag startup goes further, combining soil sensors with cameras and an AI system that advises on fertiliser and irrigation. According to UNEP, some of its users have seen yield increases of up to 50%.
None of this is imported tech from abroad; it's being built and deployed inside Nigeria right now, and it's backed by the National Digital Agriculture Strategy and NITDA's planned innovation sandboxes.

We found a fuller write-up that covers this alongside similar tech being used in energy, health and security in Nigeria :

Has anyone on here tried soil sensors or similar setups on their own farm?
