If you want to value your land that a livestock farmer is seeking to use as a ranch for cattle, calculate the income you can get from it per annum if the most profitable tree in your region were planted on it and you are receiving rental income not what you will gain if you work the land by yourself. Then multiply it by forty and ask for that much stake or equity in the ranch. You can increase it to up to 200 percent if the land is well watered. If no economic tree in your region then maybe you can divide what someone working on the land will gain in one year by three and use the figure you arrive at. A ranch properly registered as a limited liability company and with a rich stakeholdership stands a much better chance of success.

A ranch of one thousand cattle heads may cost up to 500 million naira to set up or less but without the cost of land.

Note

Ranches can be set up in urban areas so far it has hay makers supplying it hay. It is infact best set up in at least semi urban areas for easy monitoring and this is why a national hay making industry should come first even before or at least concurrently with cattle ranching

do not go in this direction.

Get some sheep or cattle yourself and do a small ranch.

The day you invite others on your land is the day you are vunerable

Theory, management etc is needed but there is no business that is just that. Don't look at any business as requiring just capital. People have decades long experience in the sector
