Rabbits Hide Illness: Five Small Changes Farmers Should Notice by TelevetNigeria(op): 8:56pm On Aug 21
Rabbits are prey animals, so they may hide weakness until a problem becomes serious. Daily observation is therefore one of the farmer’s most valuable tools. Do not wait only for dramatic signs.
Pay attention when a rabbit eats less, produces fewer or smaller droppings, sits hunched, grinds its teeth, breathes unusually, develops eye or nose discharge, or stays apart from the group. A rabbit that stops eating or passing droppings needs prompt veterinary attention. Check water supply, feed quality, ventilation, heat and any recent change in management.
Keep affected animals in a quiet, clean area while advice is obtained, but do not give random antibiotics or human medication. Record which rabbits are affected and when the change began. A simple daily checklist for appetite, droppings, breathing, movement and appearance can reveal a problem earlier than memory alone.
