CelebritiesMy Wife Is Not Looking For Fame, Mine Is Enough For Us – Dbanj Speaks by abharbyj(op): 5:19pm On Apr 23, 2016
Down the years, there have been series of speculations about the love life of Nigerian singer, D’banj.

In recent time, especially, the entertainer has been bombarded with questions bordering on marriage.

The 35-year-old, revealed during an MTV Base event, that he’s had enough of being asked about his marital status.

“I am tired of people asking me that question. That’s my personal life and its not going to change my music. I’m not trying to get married to enter another phase of my life the way they have classified my other colleagues. When you want to marry they just put it like you want to retire. No, its not going to change anything.

He however said when he finally plans to settle down, it would be done discreetly.

“If I marry, you would not hear about it. My wife is not looking for fame. The fame I have is already enough.”

Last year, there were online reports in circulation of a secret D’banj marraige set to happen. Although it fizzled out.

PoliticsRep Denies Complicity In Power Outage During Saraki’s Trial by abharbyj(op): 7:53am On Apr 18, 2016
There have been allegations of complicity against a member of the House of Representatives from Kwara State, Zakari Mohammed, over power outage during the trial of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, last Wednesday.

However, the lawmaker has denied any involvement in whatever form on the power outage, claiming that the report was stage-managed and politically motivated to hoodwink the public.

Reacting to the report associating him with the light-out during Saraki’s trial, he said: “I have read a story in an online medium, which insinuated that I was behind power outage last Wednesday at the sitting of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, during the ongoing trial of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki.

“The said publication was not only false but an outright balderdash, sheer rubbish and a deliberate attempt to use this medium to tarnish my hard-earned reputation.

“The so-called stage-managed and politically-motivated report was designed to hoodwink unsuspecting public to believe that I am a violent political office holder.

“To set the records straight, I had no hands in the outage at the CCT Tribunal. I have no relationship with any staff or technicians at the tribunal which would have made me to influence the outage.

“I also do not work with or own shares in Abuja Electricity Distribution Company to have wielded contacts to disrupt power supply to the tribunal.

“I have never met with technicians in charge of the alternative source of power for the tribunal.”

Mohammed, who is Chairman of House Committee on Basic Education, further said: “In the jaundiced story, which was branded as an exclusive copy, no attempt was made to speak with the management of the tribunal on what led to the outage.

“Other than a curious security source, there was no fact to substantiate the so-called scoop which by all-intent was meant to achieve a predetermined agenda.

“In defiance of the ethics of journalism, I was not contacted by the publisher of the story for my own side of the story. I am the most accessible member of the House of Representatives.

“As a journalist and the former Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Media and Publicity, I obliged the press unfettered access to information. The said medium chose to give me a blackout to destroy my person.

“It was true that I attended the court session like other members of the National Assembly; we all experienced the outage at the sitting and bore the heat like everyone. It sounds absurd that I will sponsor outage to cause discomfort for myself and others.”

CrimeBenue Farmers Slam N100bn Lawsuit On Fulani Herdsmen by abharbyj(op): 7:27am On Apr 18, 2016
The people of Tyoshin community in the Gwer-West Local Government Area of Benue State have filed a motion ex parte before a Makurdi High Court, seeking N100bn from six Fulani herdsmen for destroying their farms.

The plaintiffs, led by Shuwem Mnguduguen, alleged that six Fulani herdsmen – Alhaji Doka, Alhaji Danka, Alhaji Shagari, Alhaji Dogo, Alhaji Ilo and Alhaji Ibrahim – destroyed their farms and land.

Justice Morris Ikpambese granted the motion brought forward by the counsel for the plaintiffs, while ordering that the writ of summons should be served on the respondents by substituted means.

He said the writ of summons should be served in the office of the chairman, civilian joint task force on the Tiv-Fulani affairs in Benue and Nasarawa states – which is domiciled in the premises of the office of the deputy governor of the state.

The judge said he was satisfied with the submission of the plaintiff’s’ counsel that efforts made to effect direct service on the respondents had proved abortive as shown by the exhibit before the court.

The plaintiffs also urged the court to restrain the Fulani herdsmen from further trespass on their land.

Christianity Etc25 Born-Again Christians Return WAEC Certificates by abharbyj(op): 3:26pm On Apr 17, 2016
NEC accepts, cancels certificates

By Gabriel Dike

NO fewer than 25 former candidates who sat for either the school or privates examinations conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and are born again Christians have returned their certificate claiming it was acquired through fraudulent means.

Sunday Sun learnt that the affected born again former candidates in obeying the Christian doctrine of seeking for restitution, approached WAEC, through letters and personal visits to the council, seeking for restitution after they had confessed how they acquired their certificates when they wrote the examinations at various periods.

A senior staff of WAEC disclosed that the council wrote to the candidates explaining what they were ex-pected to do which is to return the certificates in accordance with the rules and regulations guiding the conduct of the examinations.

Investigations revealed that those who complied with the directive returned their certificates to various WAEC offices nationa wide, and the council took their cases to the Nigeria Examinations Committee (NEC), which met recently in Lagos and cancelled the returned 25 certificates.

The one-page WAEC document revealed that the returned certificates by the born again Christians are for both the May/June (school exam) and November/December (private candidates) West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Breakdown of the year

the examinations were taken revealed that the oldest certificates dates back to June 1980 with certificates dated 1986 for Nov/Dec with certificates nos NGPO497232 and NGO 442267 and three obtained in 1989, all for school examinations with certificates nos NGPO 1004584, NGPO 823128 and NGO 1002145.

In the1993 Nov/Dec exam, two candidates sought restitution and returned their certificates, while 1994, 1997,1999, 2000, 2006, 2008,and 2009, one person each returned their certificates. In 2001, three did so, in 2003 (two), 2004 (three) and in the May/June school examinations, two candidates returned their certificates

Seventeen of former WAEC candidates that returned their certificates wrote the May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) and eight sat for the Nov/Dec WASSCE.

A former principal and now proprietor of Royal Academy International, Oshodi, Mr. Olatunji Ogunmode, commended the candidates for seeking restitution after many years of acquiring the certificates, and urged several others to obey the Biblical command. Ogunmode warned other candidates in future

WAEC exams to stay clear of examination malpractices, noting that if they were not caught in the classroom for exam fraud, nemesis would certainly catch up with them, no matter how long it takes.

Pastor Miracle Wisdom said the 25 former WAEC candidates by returning the certificates they acquired wrongly are obeying the Christian doctrine by seeking for restitution, and that no matter how long it took them to come forward, their past sins are forgiven.

Wisdom was however silent on what happens to higher certificates the 25 candidates used the WAEC certificates to acquire, nothing “the most important thing is that they came forward to admit how they passed their exams. It is a welcome development, it would make others not to engage in exam fraud.’’

The pastor said there are several verses in the Bible to support restitution which conform to what the 25 born

again Christians did by confessing their sins and seeking for restitution from WAEC. John 1:9 says ‘’If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness’’.

While Number 5:6-7 says ’’When a man or woman commits any of the sins that people commit by breaking faith with the Lord, and that person realizes his guilt, he shall confess his sin that he has committed.[a] And he shall make full restitution for his wrong.’’

CrimeOmg! Pregnant Woman Delivers Cocaine At Lagos Airport (photo) by abharbyj(op): 7:02am On Apr 17, 2016
A ‘pregnant’ woman was delivered of a white powdery substance suspected to be cocaine by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Saturday, April 16 at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Lagos

In a statement signed by Mitchell Ofoyeju, NDLEA spokesperson, the woman, a 41-year-old mother of 3, Dorothy Onyekas pretended to be pregnant but was instead carrying 86 pellets of white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine.

The statement said “The drug was intercepted during the inward screening of passengers on an Emirates flight from Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The substance has a total weight of 1.720 kilogrammes with an estimated street value of N20.6 million.”

Ahmad Garba, NDLEA commander at Lagos airport had reportedly said the drugs on the woman could have been mistaken for pregnancy.

“It was discovered that the suspect kept 86 wraps of cocaine inside a waist bag which was tied to her stomach. `Unfortunately, the drug was detected by NDLEA officers on her arrival from Dubai. The drug was immediately packed and weighed in her presence.

“It had a gross weight of 1.720 kilogrammes,’’ Ahmadu stated.

Muhammad Abdallah, chairman of the agency applauded the increased spate of arrests and seizures at the airport and described it as a development that can cripple drug cartels.

“In the past few days, the NDLEA has recorded numerous arrests and drug seizures at the Lagos airport. The drug cartels have also suffered huge losses from these operations. This particular suspect feigned pregnancy with wraps of cocaine but she was caught by vigilant narcotic agents.”

“Some of the suspects recently apprehended concealed drugs in their socks and luggage while others ingested wraps of cocaine in disregard of the danger to their health.”

“In spite of their craftiness, we are daily stopping them from perpetrating their criminal act and forcing them to a retreat. “She will be charged to court soon.”

CrimePolice Declare War On Fulani Herdsmen Carrying Arms by abharbyj(op): 2:16pm On Apr 16, 2016
The Police have declared war on Fulani herdsmen perpetrating unending attacks on farmers with unlicensed firearms.

The force said it does not issue gun licences to herdsmen and would henceforth clamp down on any one of them found to be in possession of firearms without Police licence.

This move has become imperative following allegations that Fulani herdsmen use dangerous weapons such as AK47 and other guns whenever they are embroiled in violent clashes with farmers over grazing areas for their cattle.

The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, told Saturday PUNCH that the police do not issue firearms to unqualified persons and encourage Nigerians to provide information on illegal arms across the country.

Arase, who spoke through the Force Public Relations Officer, Bisi Kolawole, noted that any herdsman found carrying guns would be arrested and prosecuted under the law of the land.

“We have always confisticated illegal and prohibited firearms and prosecute those arrested. Police cannot issue firearms licence to herdsmen; we are encouraging citizens to provide information on illegal arms across the country. Public safety is the absolute priority,” the police boss said via a text message from Kolawole.

The IG said all applications for firearms’ licence must follow the right procedures. “The Police cannot issue out firearms licence to anyone that is not qualified to possess firearms. There are procedures to obtain firearms licence; if you don’t follow the procedure and you don’t meet the requirements, you will not be granted the approval to possess one.”

In similar vein, Police commissioners across the country are also talking tough vowing to arrest Fulani herdsmen with firearms and treat them like common criminals.

The Delta State Police Commissioner, Alkali Baba Usman, said the command had arrested many Fulani herdsmen and interrogated them over allegations of farm destructions and killings.

“We are not afraid of arresting any Fulani herdsmen if found to have committed an offence, but we work within the ambit of the law,” he said. “As regards the arms, they obtain permission to protect their cows. When they are arrested, we treat them as suspects until they are charged to court if necessary.”

The Niger State Police Command said Fulani herdsmen were not allowed by law to bear firearms to look after their cattle and that anyone of them found with arms would be treated like a criminal.

The command’s spokesperson, Bala Elkana, said the command had confiscated over 20 AK47 guns, 70 dane guns, 30 double barrelled guns and over 1,000 live ammunition from Fulani cattle rustlers.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, described the bearing of firearms by Fulani herdsmen as illegal, saying that the police would not hesitate to arrest such persons.

He said, “In Ogun State, they only bear machetes, swords and sticks, also known as “sanda.”

“It is not illegal for them to bear those swords, machetes and sticks, unless they begin to use them to intimidate, harass or threaten the people, then the police can arrest them. No herdsman had approached us for licensing for firearms.”

He, however, admitted that the command had been inundated with cases of rape and cattle rustling, among others.

Over the years, several clashes have been recorded between the host communities and the herdsmen, with the indigenes mostly at the receiving end.

The most recent incidents include the invasion of Abbi community in the Uzo-Uwani area of Enugu by Fulani herdsmen in February.

Traditional rulers and community leaders in the affected communities have called on the Federal Government to address the menace of the herdsmen.
