Tennis star Serena Williams has penned an emotional letter to her mom in which she says she has been called a man. The 35-year-old tennis champion shared the letter on Instagram and community sharing website Reddit on Tuesday, September 19. The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Hameed Ali, yesterday announced the seizure of another 470 pump action rifles smuggled into the country through the Tin Can ports in Apapa, Lagos. Consequently, the NCS has placed all the nation’s gateways, including the seaports, land borders and airports, on red alert to checkmate the smuggling of arms and ammunition into the country. The latest seizure made it the fourth time customs officials intercepted smuggled pump action rifles now totaling 2,671 pieces. The NCS had in January seized 661 pieces of pump action rifles, which were found in 49 boxes. In May, the operatives intercepted 440 pieces of assorted pump action rifles and on September 11, 2017, another 1100 rifles were intercepted at the Tin Can Island. All of these originated from Turkey. The apex Igbo socio-cultural group in Nigeria, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, yesterday stressed that the country should not be allowed to undergo another civil war. This came as the body also reinstated that Ndigbo are not interested in secession but equity and fairness from leaders of the country. This is even as Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State, yesterday, told sponsors of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, to have a rethink. Speaking when he led leaders of Ohanaeze on a courtesy visit to Governor Aminu Waziri at the Government House, yesterday, President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief John Nwodo, said although Nigeria was in trying times, the cohesion that existed over the years was worthy of being maintained. “Yes, our country is going through a trying period but we should not under any circumstances experience another civil war. The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, is currently on his way to Umuahia, the Abia State Capital, to monitor activities of the members of Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), in the state. The IGP, who is in company of top police officers on the trip, is expected to visit Aba, where a police station was razed down by suspected IPOB members. The operation Python Dance II that was launched by the Military in the Southeast Region of Nigeria has attracted a lot of criticism both locally and Internationally. The armed forces of the Federal Republic Of Nigeria last week launched a military operation codenamed operation Python dance II to subdue and possibly bring to nothingness the agitation and uprising of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) in the southeastern Region of the nation. The result of this operation was disastrous as people were killed, maimed and houses were burnt amidst other destructive escapades that trailed the military’s ruthless operation. When people are trying to recover from the effects of that operation, the village youths of one of the affected areas went inside the forest in search of a Python.
