The political atmosphere in Osun State has taken a fresh twist as no fewer than 18 members of the Osun State House of Assembly are reportedly plotting to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Sources familiar with the development said the lawmakers are also considering moves to impeach the Speaker of the House as part of a wider political realignment in the state.

According to insider sources, the lawmakers met secretly in Ibadan, Oyo State, today to fine-tune their defection plan and strategize on the impeachment process. The lawmakers, mainly from the ruling PDP, are said to be dissatisfied with the leadership of the House and alleged interference from the executive arm of government.

Part of the plot, sources said, is to impeach the Speaker as a prelude to initiating impeachment proceedings against Governor Ademola Adeleke. The lawmakers are reportedly working on a plan that would see the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, assume office and complete the remaining term of the current administration.

While official confirmation is yet to be made, multiple sources hinted that the meeting in Ibadan lasted several hours, with participants weighing legal, political, and security implications of the planned defection and impeachment. The unfolding scenario is expected to redefine the political landscape in Osun ahead of the 2026 election.
