Cautious Trading Persists As Investors Await Economic Data To Trigger Next Move Market Update for September 13 The seesaw movement witnessed in recent times continued on the Nigerian Exchange Tuesday, with the benchmark NGX All-Share index closing marginally up. Helped by the seeming buying interest in a few blue chip stocks, which halted the previous session loss position, even as low transaction volume persisted as market breadth flipped negative. Caution reigned on the bourse as all eyes remained on the August inflation data and the expected half-year earnings report from Accesscorp. The mixed sentiment across the major sectors resulted from portfolio rebalancing and sector rotation that is ongoing in the market, as investor position in stocks with higher earnings and dividend yields to hedge against inflation in the face of low liquidity in the market due to rate hike and absent of institutional investors. Also, position taking in some banking and industrial goods stocks helped the index to close slightly up. The expected August consumer price index will shape and influence investors’ sentiments ahead of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Monetary Policy Meeting (MPC) on rate hike or otherwise. The continued low liquidity in the equity space is due to increase in fixed income yields. But in hedging against inflation that is reading 19.64%, some sectors and individual equities remain the best bet for capital preservation and growth in this changing environment. The oscillating trend in the market is attributed to the historical case for the September effect, depending on the period analysis and what is happening. It is generally believed that retail investors liquidate their portfolios, going into the month, to pay school fees for their children and wards, among other seasonal expectations highlighted earlier. Others include the fear of a global economic recession and Nigeria’s pre-election year tension, ahead of Q3 earnings reporting season in October. As the market continues its sideways movement, the internals are revealing the hidden forces that works for both short and long term traders to get into the best position and allow you to stay in them for maximum profit. The market internals measure the forces behind the advancers and associated volume of the uptick or downtick. These two ratios tell you everything you need to know to predict future price movement. So, the volume pattern and index structure in recent days show position taking while funds enter some stocks as revealed by the volume traded and money flow index which need to be confirmed, especially as mixed sentiment recorded on Tuesday signals a change in trend, ahead of the above mentioned events in the month. My answer regarding what to do under the current phase or market mood, whether regarding an individual stocks or an index, especially when to buy or sell, is always based on price actions and the money flow direction which combines price and volume. We only want to hold stocks that are increasing, or at least retaining their value, while avoiding equities that are on the decline, and the toolset to evaluate price action is technical analysis. The contemporary technical analysis that works in the changing volatile market, is what you should adopt. That is why it’s never been more important to join me at the upcoming Q4 Master Class in October, the largest quarterly traders summit in Nigeria. I will be sharing new actionable strategies and real trading education that will arm you with the tools that will help you meet your financial goals for the rest of the year 2022 and beyond. To navigate this month profitably using fundamental and technical analysis to run, join investdata live sessions at noon every trading day “and also get investdata technical toolbox to play the current state of the market do suggest that discerning investors are gradually becoming greedy, while others are fearful, as seen in the recent range market. Despite the mixed sentiment witnessed, it is time to go shopping for undervalued stocks, sectors and the next insider playing opportunity.” Oil prices pulled back to trade at $93.07 as UA inflation data beat projection to increase fear of recession as CPI report support rate hike from Fed next meeting in the face of China battling with Covid 19 lockdown. The continued oscillation in oil price also continues to drive volatility in the face of rising interest rates and inflation. Despite the bailout package of the Chinese government to simulate economic activates and stable employment, as well as that of Germany aimed at managing the energy crisis. Tuesday’s trading opened slightly in the upside and oscillated at midday to afternoon on profit taking and buying interest in blue-chips stocks, a situation that pushed the NGX’s index to an intraday high of 49,655.34bps from its lows of 49,612.40ps, before closing slightly above its opening figure at 49,627.72bps. Market technicals were weak and mixed, with higher volume of shares traded than the previous day in the midst of breadth favoring bears on a mixed sentiment as revealed by Investdata’s Sentiments Report showing 64% sell position and 34% buy volume. The total transaction volume index stood at 0.80points, just as energy behind the day’s performance was relatively strong as Money Flow Index is looking up at 63.51pts, from the previous day’s 63.13pts, indicating that funds entered the market. For you to successfully invest and trade in this volatile market, order for Investdata’s video on Buy & Sell Technical Analysis Toolbox to navigate the volatile market profitably, enhance trading decisions and boost your bottom line. Also, to up your game in stock trading and investing, understanding the key to trading price and index action will go a long way to make the difference in your trading results, check out the video materials below. Index and Market Caps At the end of Tuesday’s trading, the NGX All Share index inched up 2.01bps, closing at 49,627.72bps, after opening at 49,626.05bps, representing a 0.004% up, just as market capitalization rose by just N90 million, closing at N26.77tr, from the previous day’s N26.77tr, which also represented a 0.004% value gain, just a flat position. Attention: If you have not signed up for INVESTDATA’s buy and sell signal setup, don’t delay, because the number of stocks entering their buying range has just increased to 35 as they build a new bullish base and positive chart patterns to be on our watchlist. These stocks have double the potentials to rally, considering their earnings prospects and the oscillating moves in a recovery market and economy. To become a member, send ‘YES’ or ‘STOCKS’ to the phone numbers below. Take advantage of this service to buy right and sell right at the current oscillating market in the midst of earnings season, portfolio reshuffling, and repositioning as we await an economic reform policy that can stimulate and re-track the economy to the path of growth and development. Meanwhile, Tuesday’s upturn was driven by demand for shares in Cutix, NGXGroup, UPDC, Fidelity Bank, Lafarge Africa, Accesscorp, Learn Africa, Honeywell, and Nahco, among others, which impacted mildly on Year-To-Date gain, which remained flat at 16.18%. Market capitalization gain YTD also rose to N3.23tr YTD, representing a 20.05% rise over the opening level for the year. Bearish Sector Indices The sectorial indexes were in red, except for the NGX Industrial Goods that closed 0.14% higher, while the NGX Insurance index led the decliners after shedding 0.57%, followed by Banking and Consumer goods with 0.09% and 0.02% respectively. Just as Energy closed flat. Market breadth turned negative, as losers outnumbered gainers in the ratio of 16:13; just as transactions in volume and value were up, after investors exchanged 160.24m shares worth N1.49bn, with volume driven by trades in Zenith Bank, Courtville Business Solution, Transcorp, Chams and GTCO. Multiverse and NPF Microfinance were the best-performing stocks, gaining 9.69% and 7.84% respectively, closing at N2.83 and N1.65per share respectively on market forces. On the flip side, Redstar Express and Caverton lost 10% and 4.55% respectively, closing at N2.43 and N1.05 per share, purely on selloffs and profit taking. Market Outlook We expect cautious trading ahead of consumer price index report, as all eyes are on Accesscorp’s result and next MPC meeting, while portfolio rebalancing continues on bargain hunting. Also, investors continue to analyse the numbers released by UBA, in the midst of the worsening sovereign risks. We note also the flow of funds into the fixed income segment on the rate hike by the CBN, as sector rotation persists. Analysts are also focused on the lookout for August CPI and flow of funds amid oil prices oscillation. It's time to do This...(please read this) Ambrose Here Again, We are all being bombarded with bad news, bad advice, and people telling us how bad things are in the economy and in the market generally. I don’t buy it because they are events that I can't control. I only focus my energy on what is within my control and also prevent or reduce the adverse effects of things that I can't control but will affect my finance. Also, the media and the governments are telling people that we need to be saved through policies that will enhance the economy. But, on a personal level, I even feel like they are trying to control what I should do and not do in this over abundance of opportunities to triple or quadruple your portfolio. As a result, I will like to offer a different mindset for you. Yes, we've all had challenges, but I’m optimistic and I think this is a great time to be alive! And, instead of telling you to wait for the government policies to reduce the inflation and come up with better monetary policies. It’s time to snap out such dream and save yourself in the current reality. There has never been a more important time for you to STOP waiting on the government or your employer to help better your financial future. They can’t save you. They won’t save you. And the truth – no one cares about your financial future like you do. It’s time to save yourself. You know it. I know it. Take control over your financial future. Get educated. Surround yourself with people who are doing the same thing that works for years and achieving exceptional results. Leave the victim mindset behind and complete your Q4 MasterClass registration because it is the only tool and way to safeguard your financial future which is your full responsibility. Cautious Trading Ahead, As Investors Bet On Inflation Data, Accesscorp 2022H1 Earnings, MPC Outcome Market Update for September 12 Cautious trading continued on the Nigerian Exchange, following which the week started on a negative sentiment, halting two consecutive sessions of positive outings, as the key performance NGX All-Share Index closed lower on a low volume and flat market breadth. Also, selling pressure was witnessed across the major sectors that pulled back, especially in financial services, industrial goods, among others, propelled by profit taking in the midst of interim dividends payment and corporate actions, just as all eyes are on Accesscorp half-year earnings report. Analysts are also expecting the August consumer price index, a major economic report that will shape and influence investors’ sentiments ahead of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Monetary Policy Meeting (MPC) on rate hike or otherwise. The continued low liquidity in the equity space is due to the absence of smart money, representing the activities of institutional investors is betrayed by the volume of trades in recent months and days as the increase in rates continue to impact favourably on fixed income yields. Also, the market continues its sideways movement, while awaiting a trigger and at the same time creating ‘buy’ opportunities for discerning investors as revealed by the price action, volume and momentum. The volume pattern and index structure in recent days show position taking while funds enter some stocks as revealed by the volume traded and money flow index which need to be confirmed, especially as the sell pressure recorded on Monday signals a change in trend, ahead of the above mentioned events in the month. My answer regarding what to do under the current phase or market mood, whether regarding an individual stocks or an index, especially when to buy or sell, is always based on price actions and the money flow direction. The continued oscillation in oil price also continues to drive volatility in the face of rising interest rates and inflation. Despite the bailout package of the Chinese government to simulate economic activates and stable employment, as well as that of Germany aimed at managing the energy crisis. Meanwhile, Monday’s trading started slightly in the green and oscillated, pulling back between the midday to afternoon on profit taking in blue-chips stocks, a situation that pushed the NGX’s index to an intraday low of 49,626.05bps from its highs of 49,703.85ps, before closing below its opening figure at 49,626.05bps. Market technicals were weak and mixed, with lower volume of shares traded than the previous day in the midst of flat breadth on a selling sentiment as revealed by Investdata’s Sentiments Report showing 100% sell position. The total transaction volume index stood at 0.47points, just as energy behind the day’s performance was relatively strong as Money Flow Index is looking up at 63.13pts, from the previous day’s 60.89pts, indicating that funds entered the market, despite closing down. Defining being Lucky in the Market. How Lucky are you?... Ambrose Here Again, Most people feel helpless. As if they have no control over their life. In truth, you have more control over the world than you think. It has been said that luck is what happens when opportunity meets preparation. Imagine two men walking down the street on a windy day. A piece of paper blows along the sidewalk in front of one man, then the other. The first man ignores the litter, keeping his eyes on the block up ahead. The second man peers at the scrap, realising it’s a 1,000 naira note and picks it up. Is that person luckier? No. The same opportunity crossed the path of both men, but only one of them was prepared to act. When it comes to your personal growth and development, it is important to keep your eyes and ears open through constant training and acquisition of skill sets and to know where you are. Only then will you spot an opportunity when it crosses your path. Want your opportunity to meet your preparation in the market? Invest in yourself now... Nigeria’s 2023 Elections, Economy And The Need For Political Ideology In 40 years, from 1981 to 2021, the Naira has depreciated by 67,605% against the US Dollars, a currency the Naira was stronger than in 1981. In 2021, Nigeria had a Per Capita Income of US$2,085 compared to US$2,180 Per capita Income of 1981…..in 40 years Nigerians were poorer. Prior to this economic catastrophe, Nigeria had a productive economy in the 60’s where agriculture accounted for 54.7% of the GDP and 75% of our external earnings, as prices of crude oil soared in the 70’s which were orchestrated by global events, petrodollars poured into the economy, Nigeria abandoned a productive economy for an Asset Depletion and a Rent Seeking Economy which can also be best described as a Serendipity Economy. The then Head of State would later make the famous remark that “Money was not our problem but how to spend it”, with the consequences of the economic model, this began the journey into Nigeria’s economic woes, challenges, and social problems which has plunged the country into a poverty trap. Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo, two countries rich in Mineral Resources but practicing the same economic model are projected to account for 40% of the total number of people living in Extreme Poverty by 2050, the 2023 Presidential Elections must not be about promises but about candidates and political parties with political ideologies that must change Nigeria’s economic model to an investment and a productive model, and must move away from the present model that has continued to impoverish Nigerians to reverse the trend of the 2050 projection. Data shows that no President, Head of State, Regime, or Government has performed outside the favourable price of crude oil since the early 70’s. Today, Nigeria has recorded over US$102 billion in Trade Deficits between 2014 and 2020 as stated by The World Bank and an additional N1.9trn for 2021, as stated by the NBS, in total Nigeria has had eight straight years of over US$106 billion in Trade Deficits in a non-productive economy, this is why the Naira is on a free fall leading to rising inflation. Using Data and Empirical facts to map the economic trends, The Economic Tsunami that happened in the early 80’s is repeating itself all over again, this time the aftershocks will be worse if Nigeria does not change its economic model. Watch Roman Oseghale give a detailed analysis from 1960 to date, using empirical facts and data how world events has shaped Nigeria’s economy rather than productivity and how Nigeria moved from a productive economy to a Rent Seeking Economy and the consequences that followed, and why Nigeria must return to a productive economy. Mr. Oseghale (@RomanOseghale), an Architect, a Consultant, and Business Survey Analyst, Intelligence Analyst, Economic Researcher, is Head Consultant/CEO at IntelServe Inc. https://investdata.com.ng/nigerias-2023-elections-economy-and-the-need-for-political-ideology/

Understanding Market Direction And Sectoral Analysis For Profitable Trading In technical analysis and chart reading, the general market direction is said to make up 50% of a stock’s move. You want to be investing in stocks during a bull market, when the market is in a confirmed uptrend. This confirmation usually occurs when a major index like the NGX All-Share Index follows through on day four, or later after its rally attempt. The first two or three days of a rally are normally disregarded, as the rally has not yet proven that it will succeed and follow-through with power and strong conviction. I was asked in one of the classes by participant how to do sector analysis in your trading activities. This is a broad topic and there are many different ways to skin this cat. Lately, we have been using it in a very specific way, knowing that our NGX index is mainly controlled by six highly capitalised stocks across telecommunication services, energy, industrial and consumer goods. However, let’s talk about sector analysis, how I use it, and then a sector analysis example, or two. Sector Analysis Meaning This is simple and straightforward. Market watchers group the stocks (or more accurately, companies) in the market into the various industries or sectors they are in. It is a way to organize the stock market, and it makes it easier to relate value among similar companies. The market is commonly divided into, financials, used to describe banking, insurance and other financials services providers, consumer goods, agriculture, construction/real estate, ICT, healthcare, oil/gas, services and others. Why Sector Analysis? For one, at its most basic level, this is a way to see which sectors are doing well. And in fact, a way to further simplify this is basically to divide the market into two: Growth stocks and Cyclicals. We have had many a discussion on different platforms talking about which of those was in favour at the time. Generally, these talks are common when interest rates are changing because low rates are great for growth companies; and when rates go higher, cyclicals tend to rise in share price. That said, the more specific sectors mentioned above each benefit or hurt by interest rates and other macroeconomic factors, and each has its own sort of “market personality.” And thus, many stock traders will look toward what is changing in the economy to switch in and out of different sector to benefit from the current macroeconomic landscape. When we analyse the impact of rising interest rate and the high inflationary environment, in addition to technicals and volatility considerations, we look at how a stock fares within its own sector. By that, we mean if it can be considered for ‘buy,’ because at this point fundamentals and technical are use for decision making. So, we look to see if there’s support and that no “volatility events” like earnings are imminent. But then we will look towards the sector to see if it gives us reason to believe the stock might have some buoyancy. Let me show you what I mean. Quote of the day "If a stock is under accumulation, a price consolidation represents a period when strong investors absorb weak traders. Once the "weak hands" have been eliminated, the lack of supply allows the stock to move higher because even a small amount of demand will overwhelm inventory." - Stock Market Quotes

The world is not going to stop changing, and it’s never going “back” to how it was before.
