InvestmentRe: Investdata Market Updates For Investors And Traders Forum by ACAN(op): 10:50am On Nov 02, 2021
Volatility May Continue, On Mixed November Outlook, Price Corrections, Pullbacks

Market Roundup for October

Transactions on the Nigerian Exchange for the month of October, which is the earnings reporting season, mostly of third-quarter scorecards, closed on a positive note, with the basic indicators recording their highest monthly gain since February 2021. Specifically, the composite NGX All-Share index gained 1,817.43 basis points on positive buying interests, the better-than-expected corporate earnings, and inflow of funds searching for higher real returns amidst the relatively low-interest rates, inflationary environment, and the unclear direction of yields in the fixed income market. The rates for FG and corporate bonds, including the just-concluded Treasury Bonds primary auction fell to 6.99%, while the 364-day tenor stood at 7.25%; well below the inflation rate for the month of September stood at 16.38%. Recall that the nation’s GDP has been on the growth path for two quarters, and rose to 5.01% in Q2, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

There was also the impact of the recovery in oil prices at the international markets in the midst of a slower economic recovery driven by vaccination and positive buying sentiments among blue-chip and growth stocks.

These triggered buying interests in the equity space that had been sustained for over four consecutive months of bull-run, as the monthly NGX index action formed a saucer chart pattern that supports an uptrend and market recovery on a higher traded volume and positive breadth.

October, the first month of the last quarter of 2021, ended on a positive note with Friday’s market rally suggesting a trend continuation as the index is set to breakout 42,412.66ahead of the release of more earnings reports, and an eventual portfolio reshuffling along sectors and companies’ performance.

The positive close on bullish sentiments in the market was also despite the growing insecurity challenges across the country and crisis in the foreign exchange market and continued rise in external reserves. We do know that stock markets across the globe, as leading indicators of economic activities, are forward-looking. Consequently, it is not unexpected that the current share prices are reflecting the future earnings potentials of quoted companies, or their profitability, which is directly linked to economic activities and eventually the GDP.

However, the Nigerian equity market has since July rallied on the back of low stock valuations, liquidity, and positive sentiments, while economic indices and at the same time are pointing to economic recovery as reflected in the quoted company’s earnings, despite the inconsistent policies of the government.

The continued uptrend by the composite NGX All-Share index and the positive corporate earnings of listed companies released so far show that the Nigerian economy is still on the path of growth. This is a reflection of the monetary policy stance driving economic activities again through relatively low-interest rates.

However, for these low rates to achieve the desired objective, it is time for the government to revisit its various policies needed to boost the economy while ensuring coordination with the monetary authorities so as to check the wanton incidences of mismatch in policies that have prevailed for years.

Despite the seeming impact of the government and Central Bank of Nigeria intervention funds in critical sectors like agriculture and the health sectors, the national output remains low due to the unhealthy business environment, with the unresolved bad road networks for the movement of goods and services to the market across the country.

The impact of this was worsened by high electricity tariff and pump price of petrol, further pressuring the cost of goods and services when added to the high cost of other production variables that have almost crippled the manufacturing sector as reflected in the mixed earnings of companies in the real sector.

The positive responses to the strong numbers as at release dates by investors have pushed many growth and low priced equities to new 52-week highs, confirming the improving liquidity and confidence in the market. As noted earlier, the Q3 scorecards of various listed companies have given insights into the real state of the economy in Q3 and what the Q3 GDP will look like when published by the NBS before the next MPC meeting in November.

The possibility of prices rallying further from here is high, amidst portfolio reshuffling on the strength of the Q3 numbers, just as investors would be assured of reward in the form of dividends when the full-year score-cards begin to flow into the market in the early days of 2022, as the possibility of dividend growth is high. It is expected that discerning investors and traders would take advantage of the relatively low stock prices, year-end season, and cycle to grow their income, ahead of major earnings season in the first quarter of 2022.

In the 19 trading sessions of October, the index recorded gains in 16 sessions and down in three trading days, raising year-to-date gain to 4.39%, even as we note that the undervalued state of quoted companies, their fundamentals, and the seemingly high dividend yields may attract more inflows to the Nigerian stock market. This is given that many equities are having a high margin of safety, thereby offering higher upside potentials.

Meanwhile, the key performance Index in the month gained a total of 1,817.43 basis points, closing at 42,038.40bps, after touching a high of 42,054.18bps, from its lows of 40,221.17bps for the month, which was equally its opening figure. This represented a 4.52% growth over the period on strong buying interests that impacted positively on the index and stock prices, pushing them further up to breakout various resistance levels of 41,000 and 42,000 psychological lines.

Total ‘buy’ volume for the month was 99% and sell position of 1%, further extending the bull transition in the past quarter, while volume index for the period was 1.26 points. Market capitalization rose by a princely N1.00tr, closing at N21.958tr, from N20.956tr, representing a 4.78% appreciation in value. This was higher than the percentage growth in the index as a result of the right issues listing and admission of the NGXGroup that boosted the market cap for the period. Traded volume for the period rose by 48.39% to 8.31bn shares, as against the 5.60bn units recorded in the preceding month. Market breadth for the month was positive with the advancers outnumbering decliners in the ratio of 80:38 to extend the four months of upmarket that was due to factors mentioned above.

Bullish Sectorial Performance

Performance indexes across the sectors were bullish as the chart below shows that the NGX Banking and Energy indexes boosted the market the most during the month, outperforming the general market. The NGX Main Board and Pension index gained 6.24% and 6.16%, driven by price appreciations in dividend-paying stocks, while the NGX Growth index improved by 4.64%, and NGX 30 index garnered 4.34%, followed by the NGX Industrial, which chalked 4.21% to reflect the performance of blue-chip and high cap stocks on the exchange. The NGX Insurance and Premium indices inched up 3.98% and 2.85% respectively, revealing investors’ positive sentiment and the clear decision among traders, as the market’s Price-to-Earnings ratio remains low and attractive. It is also worthy of note that no sectoral index closed in red during the month.

Best And Worst Performing

The month’s best-performing stocks were low and medium cap stocks across the banking and oil marketing sectors, led by University Press, which gained 93.75% as reacted to its impressive Q2 numbers, followed by Ecobank Transnational Incorporated’s 64.81%; and the 43.54% notch by Champion Breweries. FBN Holdings climbed 37.27%, on insider buying and positive sentiment for the group; just as the share price of AIICO Insurance soared 30.53%; among others.

Source; Investdata Research

The worst performing stocks for the period was Academy Press, which lost 15.38%, amidst sell-offs and mixed earnings performance in the recent numbers released; Linkage Assurance shed 11.67% also due to selloffs; just as Morison Industry declined by 10%; ahead of BOC Gas’s 9.87% price decline during the month.

Technical View

The NGX’s index action for the month reveals an uptrend and a bullish chart pattern that is set to breakout 42,412.66bps and its 50-Day Moving Average on a monthly chart with positive sentiment and high traded volume. The market is still trading within the up channel and above the 40-day moving average, despite the high buying interests, with the benchmark index entering the overbought region on a weekly and daily time frame to reflect an increased inflow of funds that pushed stock prices up in October, which was also the earnings reporting season. With the impressive numbers released, trading patterns and momentum, going forward, are likely to change amidst portfolio rebalancing and repositioning ahead of year-end and seasonal cycles. Market technicals for the period were positive and this is expected to remain unchanged in the new month.

Market Outlook

Volatility is expected to continue in November, even as the outlook remains mixed due to likely price corrections, or pullbacks for a few days due to profit-taking and portfolio reshuffling ahead of year-end and 2022 corporate actions. The anticipated correction in the new month will, however, strengthen recovery.

But investors at this point should not be greedy, but let their decisions be guided by preset investment goals and exit strategies, even as the healthy inflow of funds into the equity assets due to prevailing low rates in the money market is likely to continue as the market look to the last MPC meeting for the year in the new month of November.

Again, the current undervalue state of the market offers investors opportunities to position for the short, medium, and long-term, which is why investors should target fundamentally sound, and dividend-paying stocks for possible capital appreciation for the rest of the year.

Ambrose Here Again,

For all the talk about being goal-oriented, most people are not willing to dream big enough or they are not willing to start small enough.

I may be harsh, but let's simply examine the facts. It seems to me that most goal-oriented investors and Traders around wishing at all times, "if only..."

I suspect the problem that is not willing to dream big is the fear of failure. These investors and Traders are afraid to dream big because they fear disappointment that might follow should their grand dreams fail to come true.

The problem with the second group, the ones who are not willing to start small enough is ego. Their big egos won't let them do the small thing that is currently within their power to do. These are the investors and Traders waiting for their "big transformation" in the market and government-perfect policies.

However, if you are yet to execute your big dream, you either fall into one of the above or both categories.

In the quest to think big and start small, what steps are you taking to move toward your dream? Have shunned that critic in you and done what you have to do even when it might fail? Have you burnt the bridge of no return until you succeed?

Lest I forget, happy new month of November. Wishing you all the best and a new start in achieving your dreams.

Dedicated to Your Financial Success,

From The University of Hard Knocks: Aspire, Acquire, Apply...

Ambrose Here Again,

In life, especially when it comes to money and investing, everybody is looking for the formula for success.

For many growing up, it was reading, writing, and arithmetic.

After all, that is what our schools hold up as most valuable. While these things are valuable, they are a baseline, not a ticket to success.

Over the years, through the University of hard knocks and the faculty of Experience, I found out that success is developed via the Triple-A Triangle, and it works for any challenge life can throw at you.

Below is a quick overview of that plan.

#1: Aspire: Choose your dream. Create a clear vision of what your financial dream and financial freedom look like to you. Hold onto your vision throughout your journey.

#2: Acquire: Acquire the knowledge, the education, the facts, the figures, and the data you need in order to take action. The acquire stage is ongoing because the markets and the economy are always changing.

#3: Apply: Apply the knowledge you’ve acquired in the real world. Take action. Put into practice what you have learned. With a small amount of acquired knowledge, you can quickly move into the apply stage.

Many small applied steps lead to more tremendous learning, which will produce results. If you are ready to start putting these steps into action, then you need to take action regarding the

Travel AdsRe: Where To Find A Standard Hotel In Apapa At Affordable Rate by ACAN(op): 12:43pm On Oct 26, 2021
What are the top 10 basic things you expect to find in a hotel room?

1. Cleanliness: This is an absolute must. Hotels need to uphold the highest cleanliness standards, offering clean public spaces, bathrooms, bedrooms, and amenities. While it's an important initiative, recycling must not give way to a lack of hygiene.

2. Adequate safety/security: For many, a hotel function as a home away from home. With that comes a hefty expectation for the most diligent safety and security measures. Many hotels now focus on providing personalized safety and security measures for different guest profiles such as women, children, and the elderly. Technology plays an increasingly important role in providing better safety, but some guests still place more importance on the human touch.

3. Internet: Guests at all types of hotels demand some level of Internet service, but business hotels especially must offer the highest level of connectivity and flexibility. At many hotels, if not all, guests expect Internet access to be complimentary—for some, free WiFi is as necessary as the air we breathe.

4. Comfortable beds: At the end of the day, a hotel serves a very basic need: It provides a place to rest your head, but only if the bed is of good quality, clean, well maintained, and well designed. It also needs to be well-positioned in the room to allow proper circulation. Some hotels take the liberty of being creative with the pillow and blanket offerings, which is great—as long as the guest feels comfortable with the choices available to them.

5. Bathroom plumbing: The reason this is highlighted as "plumbing" as opposed to just a "good shower" or "hot water" is because this concerns the entire bathroom. Hot water is of no use if it is just trickling down; lack of proper water flow from the sink and toilet is a significant burden and inconvenience to any guest. All guests should expect clean, potable water; proper and continuous hot running water in the shower; flowing water in the sink and toilet; and no leaks.

6. Attentive phone answering: Hotels typically have a standard "answer the phone in three rings" policy; unfortunately, this does not happen as often as we would like. Sometimes the call is directed to an agent who does not have the information, but is rather there just to answer the phone…so on to another transfer! No matter what the hotel classification, the property must assign a qualified agent who is able to effectively and efficiently answer a guest’s questions and concerns, and refer them to the appropriate department only if absolutely necessary.

7. Lighting: This is a pretty big issue across a lot of hotels. Most don’t offer adequate lighting in the hotel rooms, from bathrooms to bedside lamps, and it's a hassle for guests across the board. Improved lighting serves to enhance the guestroom experience and provide a sense of security.

8. Aroma: Upon entering a hotel and the hotel room, the smell of the property has a major impact on a traveler's first impressions. Guests are often sensitive to newly created hotel "signature" scents or stale smells from carpets and bathrooms, which can influence the guest’s perception of the quality and cleanliness of a hotel.

9. Simple, tasty food: The availability of food and beverage outlets varies based on the hotel service level. However, certain things—such as a hot breakfast—are a basic offering that really adds to a guest experience. Even budget hotels could be conveniently located next to an all-day diner, which caters to hotel guests. Access to a convenient and affordable breakfast is turning from a plus to a must.

10. Check-in/Check-out: Nowadays, a front desk check-in and -out experience is constantly evolving—from pod check-ins to a personalized iPad check-in. While these advances are exciting, hotels need to stay focused on certain elements of a check-in/check-out process that really affect a guest's stay.

A) Clear direction: Guests should know what to do or where to go when they enter the hotel or visit the lobby.

B) Convenience: Whether it is an iPad or a front desk agent, guests should have immediate access to a source that handles their check-in/check-out and any billing issues promptly.

C) Consistency: No matter what the process of interaction, the hotel must be able to offer the exact same experience every single time so that the guest develops a sense of comfort and confidence with the hotel.

Using the Right Piping Material for Your Plumbing Application

Tackling a plumbing project can be overwhelming, especially when you start to shop for piping and realize all of the different options available for you. Do you want PVC, galvanized metal, or flexible PEX tubing? Here are some details about the most popular types of plumbing piping and what they are best used for that might make your decision a little easier.

PVC Pipe
By far the most commonly used pipe in residential homes, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe is the white piping commonly used in plumbing applications. Affordable and versatile with a number of different fittings and sizes available, PVC is great for most warm and cold water applications.

PVC works well for home plumbing piping needs because it does not rust or corrode over time. This means it will not need to be replaced until it is actually damaged and starts leaking. It is also easy to work with, as it requires no welding or metalwork, and is an inexpensive option for your home. PVC is quite strong and durable and does not bend under pressure, making it the piping solution of choice for high-pressure applications.

The main drawback to PVC pipe is the fact that it cannot be used with hot water applications. When exposed to hot water, PVC will warp. This means it cannot be used to deliver hot water to sinks, tubs and washing machines. It also may degrade when exposed to UV light for an extended period of time, and this includes the UV rays from the sun, so it is best suited for indoor applications or underground pluming.

PVC comes in two sizes, called “schedules.” Schedule 40 is the typically used PVC type. Schedule 80 has a slightly thicker wall. ANSI nominal pipe size table specifies the outside diameters of all schedules for a given pipe size to be equal and the inside diameter will vary according to wall thickness. Schedule 80 is slightly stronger than Schedule 40.

Unfortunately, most PVC is not rated for use for drinking water, not due to a high risk of toxicity, but due to the fact that it can degrade with high temperatures, UV light exposure and extremely high pressures. Any degradation can damage the water supply and make it unsafe for drinking water.

Typically, you will use PVC for:

Sink drain lines
Toilet drain lines
Bathtub drain lines
Vent stacks
Main water supply line running to the home
High-pressure applications
CPVC Pipe
Chlorinated polyvinyl chloride pipes (CPVC) are made from PVC that has extra chlorine added to the material. It carries all of the benefits of PVC with added durability. CPVC will not degrade with hot water exposure and is safe for drinking water. It is slightly more expensive than PVC, however, and will split if allowed to freeze.

CPVC can be used in most applications where copper piping is used, but it is considered a better option for a number of reasons. First, the interior of CPVC pipe is smooth, which means it has little water noise when compared to copper plumbing systems, including little to no problems with “water hammer.” Second, it is well insulated to prevent energy loss in hot or cold applications. CPVC is also more flexible than metal tubing, providing a bit more versatility. Finally, it is extremely fire resistant.

CPVC is typically used for those applications where PVC properties are wanted, but PVC is not usable, including:

Hot water delivery
Drinking water delivery
Hot water drains
Waste and water disposal pipes
Copper Pipe
Since the 1960s, copper piping has been the standard for most home plumbing applications. The long lifespan and durability of this piping makes it an excellent choice for many applications. It tolerates heat well and is extremely resistant to corrosion. Copper does not degrade with water and therefore is safe for use with drinking water.

However, copper has one major drawback, and that is the price. This is one of the most expensive piping materials, and is at a high risk of theft on jobsites or in vacant houses. In today’s homes, you will most often see copper piping used for:

Hot and cold drinking water supply
Refrigerant lines for HVAC systems
Other applications that require a tight seal
Underground service lines
PEX Pipe
PEX piping is considered by many to be one of the biggest innovations in the home plumbing industry of the modern era. PEX is an extremely flexible piping option that can literally be snaked through a home and bent around corners when needed. It requires no glue and holds up better in freezing conditions than CPVC because the materials can expand and contract.Piping

PEX is typically connected using stab-in or compression fittings, which require a special tool to use. PEX can be spliced into existing pipe, including copper pipe, which makes it a great choice for additions and retrofits. PEX is durable enough for hot water applications, but it cannot be connected directly to the hot water heater. For hot water supply lines, it must be connected to an 18-inch section of copper or other hot-water-safe piping.

Because of its flexibility and durability, PEX pipe is great for:

Retrofitting an older home
Snaking through walls in a remodel
Working in areas with low ventilation where glue is dangerous
Galvanized Piping
Galvanized piping is steel or iron piping that has been coated with zinc to help prevent rust and corrosion. Galvanized metal is commonly used in construction, but pipes made from galvanized steel can be used in plumbing applications. This particular type of pipe is best used for water lines, as gas lines can cause the zinc to corrode and damage the pipe or block the entire system. Even in highly corrosive conditions, galvanized pipes can last up to 100 years.

Galvanized pipes are typically used in the following applications:

Water supply lines
Outdoor applications
Underground applications
Brass Pipe
Finally, brass piping is an option for certain applications. Highly resistant to corrosion as well as damage from heat and water, brass is also a soft metal that allows the installer to create a tight seal. It has a heavier wall than copper but offers many of the same benefits, including safety in use with drinking water.

Lead is one potential problem with brass piping. Brass is an alloy, which means it is a mixture of metals, and many of the brass alloys contain lead. Lead cannot be allowed to leach into drinking water, so today’s plumbers choose brass that is lead-free.

Brass is an older option that was commonly used before the introduction of copper to the home plumbing market, but it is still relevant today. Some applications of brass piping include:

Water supply lines
Water removal drains and lines
Some applications for gas lines, depending on local building code
As you can see, choosing the right piping material is not always easy. Before starting your plumbing job, make sure you do your research to ensure that the plumbing material you choose is the right fit. To purchase the piping and fittings you need at an excellent price, visit us today

After Initial Disclaimer, FBN Holdings Says Otedola Now Holds 5.07% Shares

The board of FBN Holdings Plc, on Saturday, said Otedola Olufemi Peter, former chairman of Forte Oil Plc (now Ardova Plc), and his nominee, Calvados Global Services Limited now own 5.07% of its issued and fully-paid shares, as of October 22, 2021.

A statement by Seye Kosoko, the group’s company secretary, in a statement through the Nigerian Exchange Limited, on Saturday, said Otedola and his nominee, “have acquired a total of 1,818,551,625 units of shares from the Company’s issued share capital of 35,895,292,791“ units.

This was after the group had in an earlier statement to the NGX on the same day denounced news report also on Friday, October 22, 2021, “purporting that a certain individual has acquired a significant shareholding interest in FBN Holdings Plc (the company) therefore makes him the majority shareholder in the Company.

“As a listed company, the shares of FBN Holdings Plc are publicly traded, and sale and acquisition of shares is expected in the normal course of business. We operate in a regulated environment, which requires notification of significant shareholding by shareholders to the company, where shares are held in different vehicles, further to which the Company will notify the regulators and the public as appropriate, “ Kosoko had stressed.

Continuing, Kosoko said FBN Holdings “is yet to receive any notification from the individual mentioned in the media report, of such acquisitions. FBN Holdings Plc will always notify the appropriate agencies and authorities whenever it receives any notice of significant shareholding by the Shareholders and the Company’s Registrars.”

In the follow-up statement, Kosoko said the board, in line with its promise to “inform the public of any substantial acquisition, upon receipt of notification from the shareholder,” in the “morning of October 23, 2021, FBN Holdings Plc received a notification from APT Securities and Funds Limited, that their client (Otedola) acquired enough shares to raise his stake to the 5% threshold.

Recall that Investdata News had reported that on October 7, stockbrokers traded a total of 573,567,857 units of FBN Holdings Plc at N10.05 per share and that a significant 473m of these changed hands in an Off-market trade by way of a cross-deal by FBN Quest Securities Limited N16 per unit, representing a premium of 64.95 percent of previous day’s closing N9.70 share price.

On September 6, also, 286.184m units of FBN Holdings were traded at N7.48; followed on September 20, by 496.318m shares at N7.50 each; while six days later, the group’s 325.355m units were exchanged at N7.65 per unit; before the latest one.

Nairametrics, an online business and economy newspaper had reported that an entity owned by the billionaire investor is behind a massive mop-up of the shares of FBN Holding, quoting multiple sources with knowledge of the purchase.

Otedola, the report noted, thus becomes the only shareholder “with up to 5% of the ownership of the banking behemoth… setting himself up to be the single largest shareholder of the bank. According to our sources, shares of FBNH have been mopped up over the course of the last 6 months when the share price traded at just above N7.”

Nairametrics sources further revealed off-market block purchases ranging in the hundreds of millions of units were reported by traders with the knowledge of the transaction even though it was not immediately clear who was behind the purchases. As the rumours swirled in October, FBNH share price rose as high as N12 per share gaining 69% in two weeks.

Your Share of Ralph W Emerson Law of Compensation

Ambrose Here Again,

Ralph Waldo Emerson, in his essay, "Compensation," wrote that every person is compensated in the manner for that which he or she has contributed. That is, you will always be compensated for your efforts, results, and contributions, whatever it is, however much or however little.

To Increase Your Value as a person of purpose, The Law of Compensation also says that you can never be compensated in the long term for more than you put in. The current ROI you have to earn today is your compensation for the risk you have taken in the past, the value (training) you have added to yourself in the past. So, If you want to increase your compensation, you must increase the value of your contribution.

Tell me if I got This Wrong

It is Ambrose Again,

"The biggest risk is not taking any risk... In a world that changing really quickly, the only strategy that is guaranteed to fail is not taking risks." Mark Zuckerberg

Over the years I have come to realize that taking risk is part of life. In fact, it is inevitable; giving birth to me and you as a person was also a risk. I believe you know what I mean.

Unfortunately, many investors don’t want to take risk. You want to sit on the fence and hope things will adjust. You can even go ahead and run under the excuse that it is fate. That is, what will be will be.

Well, I don’t really blame you for it because as a man thinketh in his heart so he is. This is exactly why the book of proverbs says that you should guide your heart diligently out of it are the issues of life.

As a result, there are 3 basic reasons why people don’t take risks namely:

Over-caution: According to Murphy’s Law, if one thing can go wrong, then all things can go wrong. Life entails both happiness and disappointment. So, why are you waiting for the perfect time (a mirage) to take that action. Practically, disappointment is a free gift for everyone. So, get started Now!

Pessimism: You don’t want to take the risk because when other people are seeing one reason your idea could go wrong, you are seeing 7 reasons. This will not take you anywhere in life no matter how hard you work.

Complaining: This is an economic cancer of the bone. This can change your destiny for the worse. A classical example is a Marriage, a complaining spouse at all times will eventually make his or her spouse tired of the whole thing. Nobody can tolerate it for longtime.

Hence, if you currently indulge in such a habit, please STOP IT NOW!!

Dedicated to your Financial Success
