"History will judge the enormous impact" of Cuba's former leader Fidel Castro on the world, US President Barack Obama has said.

The death of Castro, one of the world's longest-serving leaders, was announced by his brother Raul on Friday night. Castro came to power in
1959, and ushered in a Communist revolution. He defied the US for decades, surviving many assassination plots. Supporters said he returned Cuba to the people. Critics called him a dictator.

Career[PHOTO] - UK Photographer David Hamilton Dies At 83 by acetranet(op): 6:30am On Nov 26, 2016
The controversial British photographer David Hamilton, best known for nude images of young girls, has died at his home in Paris at the age of 83.

The circumstances of his death are unclear. Some media reports suggest he killed himself. Hamilton had recently denied accusations that he had
in the past raped some of his teenage models. He made his name in the 1960s with soft-focus pictures of young girls published by major magazines.
The emergency services were called to his apartment in the French capital's 6th district (arrondissement) shortly after 20:30 local time (19:30 GMT), where he was found unresponsive. Local media are reporting that prescription drugs were found nearby.
In a book published last month, prominent TV presenter Flavie Flament described being raped in the 1980s by a famous photographer, without giving a name. In an interview with L'Obs weekly last week, Flament named Hamilton as her attacker. Other women then levelled similar accusations.

Foreign AffairsTrump Election: Request For Wisconsin Vote Recount Sent by acetranet(op): 6:11am On Nov 26, 2016
The election commission in Wisconsin has received a request for a recount of the votes in the state narrowly won by Donald Trump more than two weeks ago.

The request was filed by Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein. Dr Stein has also pledged to file vote recounts in Michigan and Pennsylvania. A
win by Hillary Clinton in Wisconsin alone would not overturn Mr Trump's lead - it provides only 10 votes in the crucial electoral college that gave him victory in the 8 November election.
But wins in Wisconsin, Michigan (16 electoral votes) and Pennsylvania (20 electoral votes) would have clinched the presidency for the Democrat. In a tweet, the Wisconsin Elections Commission said: "The Commission has received the Stein and Del La Fuente recount petitions." It added that details would be released shortly. Meanwhile, Dr Stein tweeted that the recount would begin next week. Friday was the deadline for the request.

Foreign AffairsMUSIC: Little Mix Claim First UK Number One Album With Glory Days by acetranet(op): 8:02pm On Nov 25, 2016
Pop group Little Mix are celebrating their first ever UK number one album.

Glory Days sold 96,000 copies in its first week on sale, beating Metallica and Bruno Mars to the top spot. The record is now the second fastest-selling
release of the year, after David Bowie's Blackstar, which shifted 146,000 copies in January.
Little Mix have also achieved the highest first-week figure for a UK girl group since The Spice Girls' Spiceworld notched up 192,000 sales in 1997. Metallica's Hard Wired... To Self Destruct has entered at number two, while Bruno Mars's 24K Magic has debuted at three.
Just below them, at number four, is Michael Ball and Alfie Boe's album of duets, Together, which has been certified gold in just two weeks, denoting 100,000 copies sold. Other new entries come from UB40, whose unplugged album has landed at number 17, while YouTube singer-songwriter Dodie has crept into the chart at 35 with her debut album Intertwined.
Elsewhere, Adele's 25 has climbed 10 places to number 23, thanks in part to the album being discounted by some retailers. Last week's number one, 24 Hrs by Olly Murs, has dropped to six in this week's countdown.

PoliticsAFRICA - 150 Pro-biafran's Peaceful Protesters Killed By Nigerian Forces by acetranet(op): 7:05am On Nov 24, 2016
Nigeria's security forces have killed more than 150 peaceful protestors since August 2015, a human rights group has claimed.

Amnesty International said the country's military used live ammunition and deadly force against pro-Biafra protestors who were campaigning for independence from Nigeria. Nigeria's police denies allegations that it used unnecessary force. The country's
army said Amnesty was trying to tarnish its reputation. Amnesty's report is based on interviews with almost 200 people, alongside more than 100 photographs and 87 videos.
Among the allegations contained in the report are what Amnesty called "extrajudicial executions", when 60 people were shot and killed in Onitsha, in the two days surrounding Biafra Remembrance Day in May 2016.
"This reckless and trigger-happy approach to crowd control has caused at least 150 deaths, and we fear the actual total might be far higher" said Makmid Kamara, Amnesty's interim director for Nigeria.

Other victims detailed in the report include a 26-year-old man who was shot in Nkpor, but hid in a gutter, still alive. He said when soldiers found him, they poured acid over him, and told him he would die slowly.

Another woman said she had been speaking to her husband on a mobile phone when he told her he had been shot in the abdomen. He was calling from a military vehicle, she said, and she heard gunshots. She later found his body in a morgue with two more wounds in his chest, leading her to believe he had been executed after the call.
The human rights organisation said pro-Biafra protests had been "large peaceful" despite occasional incidents of protester throwing stones and burning tyres - and one occasion when someone shot at police. "Regardless, these acts of violence and disorder did not justify the level of force used against the whole assembly."
But army spokesman Sani Usman that "the military and other security agencies exercised maximum restraints despite the flurry of provocative and unjustifiable violence".

A Biafran State
In the past year there have been a series of protests by supporters of the Indigenous People of Biafra. The movement wants to create an independent state - Biafra - in the southeast of Nigeria, home to the Igbo people. A previous attempt to establish a state triggered the Nigerian civil war almost 50 years ago, in the aftermath of Nigeria's 1966 coup. Unaddressed grievances from 1966 lie at the heart of the Biafra movement's resurgence. Many Igbos feel that Nigeria is still punishing them for their previous attempt at secession.
