Facebook is looking to take upon Amazon’s Echo and Echo Dot, a brand of smart speakers developed by Amazon.com alongside Google Home and Google Home Max, by bringing its own set of smart speakers in the market.
According to a report in Taipai-based website Digitimes, the social networking giant is planning to enter the global smart speaker market by launching two speakers in July 2018 that are mainly aimed to allow family and friends stay in touch with each other through video chat and other social integrations.
“The sources said that the Facebook move is expected to further heat up the global smart speaker market, which has been crowded with heavyweight players, including top supplier Amazon and other tech giants such as Google, Microsoft, Apple and many China players including Alibaba. According to estimates by market researcher Canalys, the global market sales of smart speakers are likely to double to over 50 million units in 2018 from 2017,” the report states.

Tops TIOBE’s and PYPL’s Programming Language Popularity Index is Java

TIOBE (The Importance of Being Earnest), one of the most popular rating index for programming languages, has released its latest index for February 2018. According to their rankings, Java continues to remain the most popular programming language followed by C and C++.



Other popular languages include Python, C#, and Visual Basic. In contradiction to TIOBE’s previous prediction that Visual Basic would vanish in a few years, it is performing well as compared to other languages.



TIOBE has added SQL to the index, as the language is now Turing-complete, it said.



On the other hand, PYPL (PopularitY of Programming Language), which looks at the popularity of language tutorials on Google, shows Java as the most preferred programming language followed by Python and PHP.

For those unaware, TIOBE calculates the rankings based on the number of search engine queries, which contain the name of the programming language as a keyword. Alternatively, PYPL uses the raw data from Google Trends to calculate the rankings, which is based on the more number of searches for a particular language tutorial, the more popular it is assumed to be.

Facebook is testing ‘downvote’ button after requests for ‘dislike’ button
In 2015, Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s CEO and co-founder, had confirmed that his company was working on the much-requested “Dislike” button by its users. Fast forward to 2018, while Facebook has yet to add the ‘Dislike’ button on its platform, it did end up adding emoji reactions (such as love, haha, wow, sad and angry) that the users can choose to react to posts or pictures.
Back then, Zuckerberg explained this move by commenting, “We didn’t want to just build a Dislike button because we don’t want to turn Facebook into a forum where people are voting up or down on people’s posts. That doesn’t seem like the kind of community we want to create.”
However, the social media networking giant has now revealed that it is testing a Reddit-like “downvote” button that will allow users to flag and hide comments in the News Feed. Microsoft Office 2019 Will Work Only On Windows 10, Previews Begin Next Quarter

Microsoft recently announced that the next major update of Office desktop, which is its Office 2019 suite, will be available in the second half of 2018. However, Office 2019 will only work on Windows 10 operating system. This is a part of the company’s plans for both Office and Windows to “receive regular, coordinated updates” and for keeping the “most secure environment with the latest capabilities.”



“Office 2019 will ship in H2 of 2018. Previews of the new apps and servers will start shipping in the second quarter of 2018. Office 2019 apps will be supported on any supported Windows 10 Semi-Annual Channel (SAC) release,” the company wrote in a blog post late on Thursday.



“Office 2019 will provide five years of mainstream support and approximately two years of extended support. This is an exception to our ‘Fixed Lifecycle Policy’ to align with the support period for Office 2016. Extended support will end 10/14/2025,” the company added.



The upcoming Office 2019 includes apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and Skype for Business as well as server versions of Skype for Business, Exchange, and SharePoint.
