Technology Market / Blackberry Sold One Million Blackberry Z10 Smartphones In 3 Weeks by achibabes: 10:36pm On Mar 31, 2013
Typically, this really showed the extent of love the word has for blackberry smartphones in general and most especially the newly announced blackberry Z10. Blackberry announced its fourth quarter financials during the week, and it was known that they had sold one million blackberry Z10 in just three weeks, woo!!!.

Blackberry's financial results were a bit of a mixed bag. It posted a $94m profit for the fourth quarter, up from third quarter profits of just $14m, but also announced that its customer based had shrunk by three million during the three month period.

Things aren't looking so bad for the firm's future, however. Of course, we won't know the full extent of the firm's Blackberry 10 shipments until the next quarter, but the company has revealed that it shipped one million Blackberry Z10 handsets in the three weeks that it was available in the quarter. When you consider that Apple sold five million iPhone 5s in just a few days, Blackberry is a long way off, but it's certainly not a bad start for the company's Blackberry 10 push.

In addition, Blackberry said that it shipped five million of its older smartphones during the quarter, along with 370,000 Blackberry Playbook tablets.

Typically, Wall Street analysts had expected more from the company, predicting 6.95 million mobile phone sales with 1.1 million of them Blackberry 10 devices. Still, with six million handsets shipped in total, Blackberry wasn't far off.

Blackberry CEO Thorstein Heins said, "With the launch of Blackberry 10, we have introduced the newest and what we believe to be the most innovative mobile computing platform in the market today.

"Customers love the device and the user experience, and our teams and partners are now focused on getting those devices into the hands of Blackberry consumer and enterprise customers."

Blackberry also announced on Thursday that its co-founder, Mike Lazaridis will be stepping down after 30 years at the company

Nairaland / General / What You Need To Know About EASTER by achibabes: 9:47am On Mar 31, 2013
Easter as a day which everyone, especially the Christians celebrate, eat, drink and enjoy themselves. But there are much we need to know about the day which we call EASTER. According to Wikipedia,

Easter which is also called the Pasch or Paschais, a Christian festival and holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his crucifixion at Calvary is as described in the New Testament. Easter is the culmination of the Passion of Christ, preceded by Lent, a forty-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance. The last week of Lent is called Holy Week, and it contains the days of the Easter Triduum, including Maundy Thursday (also known as Holy Thursday), commemorating the Last Supper and its preceding foot washing, as well as Good Friday, commemorating the crucifixion and death of Jesus.Easter is followed by a fifty-day period called Eastertide or the Easter Season, ending with Pentecost Sunday.

Easter is a moveable feast, meaning it is not fixed in relation to the civil calendar. The First Council of Nicaea (325) established the date of Easter as the first Sunday after the full moon (the Paschal Full Moon) following the March equinox. Ecclesiastically, the equinox is reckoned to be on 21 March (even though the equinox occurs, astronomically speaking, on 20 March in most years), and the "Full Moon" is not necessarily the astronomically correct date. The date of Easter therefore varies between 22 March and 25 April. Eastern Christianity bases its calculations on the Julian calendar whose 21 March corresponds, during the 21st century, to 3 April in the Gregorian calendar, in which the celebration of Easter therefore varies between 4 April and 8 May.

Easter is linked to the Jewish Passover by much of its symbolism, as well as by its position in the calendar. In many languages, the words for "Easter" and "Passover" are etymologically related or homonymous. Easter customs vary across the Christian world, but attending sunrise services, exclaiming the Paschal greeting, clipping the church and decorating Easter eggs, a symbol of the empty tomb, are common motifs. Additional customs include egg hunting, the Easter Bunny, and Easter parades, which are observed by both Christians and some non-Christians.

Literature / 5 Ways To Get Your Mind Focused When It Seems As If You Don’t Own The Mind by achibabes: 10:42pm On Mar 30, 2013
Most times, it seems to me that I don’t own my mind, and that it has choices of its own. I want it to focus, generate ideas, be constructive and be creative … (Most often, that I should be in charge) And it is busy with it’s own task list. It wanders off into past, future, movies, books, conversations … anything and everything except where I want it to be. Times like these have been really frustrating and a cause of lot of unhappiness. Especially, when a targets had been set and I need to meet up. So I need to be focus and be productive.
This was real till I found solution to work with my mind. Here are 5ways to get your mind to focus when it doesn’t seem to be yours :
1. Do not overload
Pick up one issue at a time and deal with it. Don’t bother about others as at then. Be as fast as you can with whatever issue you have picked up. Not worrying or trying to focus on other issues will help finishing off tasks faster.
2. Deal with it as you would deal with a kid
Guess its funny right? But it’s the truth. The first thing to do is to stop getting agitated about not being in control, you need to take charge. The more we resist, the more the problem persists. It’s as if our mind is like a child. The more we ask it not to do something, the more it does the same and repeat it. So, if we don’t resist it, what do we do? We allow it to be where it is.
3. Let the mind vent out
Sure! Good point I think; sometimes, listening is not enough, but talking also does much. We need to share with someone and offload things within. There could be some sad moments, some worry, some pulling thought, if mind could just share with someone or write down, it would be enough to settle down.
3. Be specific with the requirements of the mind
Be specific what is it that you need to do. And what are the reasons you want to do them. Confused, unclear instructions will not yield satisfactory output. Calm yourself and state in simple and clear language the list of things that need to be done.
5. Have a leisure time and get refreshed.
Sometimes all that’s needed is a little bit of refreshment. Some people hardly get the time to pull off there worries.” All work and no play, make jack a dull boy”. You need to take breaks and easy your mind. And there are so many ways to do this in small amount of time.
You can always get refreshed by:
a. Going for a walk in nature
b. hanging out with your loved ones
c. Take a bath when stressed
d. Medidate
e. Hear some good music
