LAST ASSIGNMENT….5

Aso drive, Maitama. Abuja

Agent Precious Adeola was a fair lady with delicate feminine beauty. She was in her mid-twenties, with a trim, athletic figure. She had an intelligent oriental face, and her voice was smooth and soft like a violin’s. She often wore an impressive afro, which was what possibly earned her the moniker “Enchantress.”

Agent Adeola studied Terrorism and Counter Terrorism at the Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service. On returning to Nigeria, with the help of the Minister of Defense, who was a close friend of her father, she got a job at the DSS.

Precious had proven to her Superiors, time and again, that she merited her job position. She had successfully led the team that uncovered the plot of the Boko Haram members to bomb the National Assembly on 15th, April 2014. She was also credited with arresting a bomb threat in Sokoto, in collaboration with the local police squad.

Apart from her work, astrology was something she deeply loved. And this had cost her her relationship with her boyfriend Adeyemi Olaniregun. He believed astrology was a dark science and was unwilling to continue with a lover of the devil’s game.

She spent a fortune in acquiring obscure books like The “Zohar” and the “Kybalion,” and she loved Cladius Ptolemy’s Tetrabiblos. She knew the Zodiac signs off hand to the last detail, and did not hesitate to declare she was a Capricorn.

She was also well versed in natal astrology (the predicting of a person's future by studying his birth chart), in Physiognomy (fortune telling by examining features of the face) and was good with tarot cards and Ouija boards. When asked why she was so inclined, her response was, ‘’well, they help me do my job better.’’

Agent Precious was the fifth Directorate’s master piece for handling bomb threats. She was promptly summoned and debriefed, and in less than 24 hours she came up with a plan to stop the bomb.

The DSS boss studied her plan for a while and looked up. "Precious, you are the best. I love this. You have my approval.’’ On receiving marching orders, she assembled her gear and left for Akure 6:00 AM the following day.

LAST ASSIGNMENT 4

Aso drive, Maitama. Abuja.

The Department of State Service (DSS) is one of the security outfits that arose from the ashes of the National Security Organisation (NSO). It was founded on 5th June,1986. The DSS is responsible for domestic intelligence.

Its headquarters was located at 15, Awolowo Road, Ikoyi before General Sani Abacha moved it to Aso Drive Maitama, Abuja. The headquarters complex is known as ‘’Yellow House.’’ It was rumoured that the Director General (DG) of the DSS earns a whopping 1.36 million naira monthly.

Yellow House looks inviting, but not everyone knows that there are hidden cameras at the front of the building. They allow specially trained analyst to run background check on people entering the building. At strategic locations around the building, are directional microphones that pick conversations.

Those tinted glasses in front of the DSS headquarters are bulletproofs and are designed to neutralize listening devices. At the top floor, east of the building is a small soundproof room. It has no window and it contains many sophisticated electrical devices. The room is swept to eliminate bugs before any meeting because matters of national security are discussed there.
There exist various basements at the DSS headquarters. One of the basements contain the best technical equipments in this side of the world, calls made by Nigerians are monitored and intercepted in that room. There are pressure pads in the office of the Director General, these help secure the movement in his office. There is a secure telephone in the DG’s office that leads only to the president’s office, also the DG travels in armour-plated cars.

In the intelligence world, it is a known fact that, the American CIA takes Mossad - Israeli Intelligence agency, to bed regularly. However, Israel sometimes cheat on America by laying with Nigeria. Most, if not all of the weapons used by the DSS are supplied by Israel. In fact, rumour has it that, the Late Gen. Sanni Abacha used Mossad agents as his personal protection.

One of the outstanding successes of the DSS was the interception of a large consignment of arms and ammunition smuggled in from Iran at the Apapa port in October 2010. Despite several successes, the DSS was blamed for failing to prevent the bombing of the United Nation's House in August 26, 2011, because it had prior intelligence before the incidence.. That negligence led to the death of an assistant director of the agency in a car bomb.

On receiving the tip-off from the NCC commissioner, the DG called his Fifth Directorate - the one responsible for security and protection. The fifth directorate had little worries, he knew the right person for the job.

Last Assignment ...3

The crisis within the Ondo state PPP was an outflow of the crisis at the national level of the party. At the last National convention of the party, election of new executives was supposed to have been conducted. It was however marred by gross misconduct and led to the party’s splitting into three factions. The leadership of the party tried but was unable to contain the problem. As a result, like a house divided against itself, the party began to self- destruct.

Of the three factions, two flowed to Ondo state. Each conducted its own gubernatorial primary, thus producing two governorship candidates from the same party. It was just the beginning of the drama yet to unfold.

Oluwole Yusuf was the governorship candidate for the first faction, while Alexandra Ajasin was the candidate for the second faction.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recognized the election that produced Oluwole Yusuf, but Alexandra had the powers-that-be behind him. The case was taken to High court where the Justice pronounced Alexandra the winner of the election. However, three weeks to the gubernatorial elections in the state, the Supreme Court overruled the high court’s ruling. The candidacy went back to whom it belonged.

On the day the final verdict was given. Alexandra composed himself, he was burning with bile didn’t let it show. He often prided himself as a man that could remain calm under great pressure. He went over to Oluwole and openly congratulated him. This was politics; no permanent friend or enemy was the rule of the game.

He decided to switch the battle mode from external to internal. He doubted if the man he cordially greeted would be alive to see the gubernatorial election.

LAST ASSIGNMENT…2
Aguiyi Ironsi Street, Abuja.

The Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) is headed by a board of nine commissioners. It was founded in November 1992. The NCC is charged with the responsibility of regulating the supply of telecommunication services within the country.

With the aid of the China Exim Bank, the Nigerian government acquired the funding to launch her first communication satellite (NIGCOMSAT-1) on May 13, 2007. The satellite was deorbited on November, 10 2008 due to power failure, but was re-launched 10 months later.

This satellite was instrumental in national security and intelligence operations such as in phone calls interception, IMSI number catches and signal direction finding. It had been particularly useful in acquiring intelligence that prevented a terrorist bomb attack once in the past.

Three weeks before the ghost appeared at Alagbaka, the NCC intercepted a call believed to have originated from Sambisa Forest, Borno State. ‘’Take those ripe Tomatoes to PPP secretariat. Be careful not to let it burst before you get inside.’’ The call was believed to be received by someone around Oba Adesida road. Akure.

The message would have passed for normal if the word “Tomatoes” was not mentioned. Terrorists often use it to mean bomb.

The NCC analysts tried tracing the call recipient via the SIM card but only came up with the names of two Biafran soldiers that died during the civil war. The registered fingerprints too were traced to two ladies that were believe not to have survived the June 3, 2012 Dana plane crash. All dead ends.

After the suspicious call was made, both caller and receiver SIM cards were destroyed, and the phones wiped clean of any fingerprint and dumped in an incinerator. After hours of deliberations and further analysis, NCC concluded it must have been a bomb threat on the Ondo state PPP secretariat. The big question then was, “when will the attack take place?”

One of the NCC commissioners picked a secure phone in his office and dialed the director of the one body he believe could stop any bomb threat, The Department of State Service (DSS).

Alagbaka, Akure.

A ghost in his mid-twenties walked in a way not to attract any questioning attention on the sunlit street of Alagbaka, Akure. Even if anyone had by chance seen him, common sense would have told such an individual that he was one of the frustrated products of our broken society.

The ghost strode past the fountain at the Alagbaka Round about, took a glance at the dancing fountain and headed north. He was mumbling some words to himself, he believed those words will purify him for the task ahead. He smiled within as his destination came in view. The building was just few meters away.

In the just renovated building, inside a well secured room, around a brown polished oval table were the governorship aspirant who doubled as the incumbent governor, the state party chairmen of Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ogun and Lagos. They spoke in a voice that was barely above a whisper, maybe they feared that the room might have been bugged by the major opposition party, All United Party (AUP).

The meeting was supposed to be a top-secret, but none of the men knew the Judas within had sold the valuable information to the enemy without, and that the enemy was close and was just few minutes away from striking.

The heat of the blazing mid-day sun made the ghost uncomfortable in his oversized three-piece suit but he refused to be distracted by the temporary discomfort. The success of his mission was what mattered most. It was a great privilege to be chosen to fight the Holy War.

Apart from being handsomely paid, he anticipated a greater consolation which awaited him in heaven; seven virgins and an induction into Allah’s Hall of Fame. Jihad is a word used by Islamic fundamentalist to perpetrate evil in the name of God. Ironically, in the Holy Quran, the word Jihad has nothing to do with war. Its primary meaning is to extort oneself; to live a moral life.

The ghost felt his heartbeat quicken as he approached his destination. He had been brainwashed to believe he was on a holy assignment. No mistake must be made. The men in the building were infidels, corrupt men, and a cancer to the society. Allah is angry with them. They must be eliminated.

As the ghost edged closer, against the norm, one of the men stood up clutching his stomach, his demeanor was like that of a man in a biting pain. He groaned as he said ‘’Your Excellency, may I be permitted to use the rest room please?’’ the governor nodded in approval.

If no one stopped this ghost, the tall building radiating architectural excellence would be demolished, covered in Inky darkness. Those men would be torn to shreds like pieces of paper. The building was none other than the secretariat of the People’s Political Party.
