A creative approach to Nigeria government’s policy on youth development.
Without mincing words, many people will not dispute the fact that the success of any nation lie in the hands of youth. That is any nation that fails to plan for their youth, will definitely plan towards a state of jeopardy. It is not amazing, because youth are regarded as the future leaders of tomorrow.
It is quite obvious that, much emphasis is expected to be laid in the aspect of youth development especially by our government. As youth development entails the efforts of the concern youth, adults, communities, government agencies and parastatals to provide relevant opportunities for youth to enhance their capacity.
Having clarify what youth development encompasses, I will like to prescribe a creative approach to the government of our nation (Nigeria), if truly they want to promote youth development as well as strengthen her policy;
Strengthen self employment.
Provide adequate infrastructure facilities.
Create opportunities for the youth to involve in the decision making process.
Make financial support to youth training programmes and other upcoming activities.
Ensure youth enterprise and economic empowerment.
Organize seminars and sponsor programmes that can make youth grow spiritually, educationally, socially, economically, politically and physically.
Ensure self employment: government need to strengthen self employment through entrepreneurial skills. It is so disheartening that some of the youth don’t value entrepreneurial programmes, they are all after white-collar-job. As a result , government still have a lot of task to do, by strengthen and emphasizing the need for self employment. The message for self employment can get across to every one through radio, television, internet , social networking sites, newspaper, posters, pamphlet, and other means of communication.
Provide infrastructural facilities: such as equipments for youth vocational training, building structure for training and teaching purpose , should be encourage and provided by our government in order to promote youth development.
Create opportunities for the youth to be involved in decision making process: our government can encourage or mandate youth to participate in the decision making processes in the matters that affect them.
Make financial support to youth programmes or activities: as we all know that no action can succeed in the absence of money. As a result, government should take it as responsibility to fund youth development programmes which may be of benefit to the whole society.
Lastly, our government should empower our youth to be creative, organize seminars that can make youth grow. Example ; how to be a future leader as a youth.
In conclusion, our government at all levels should not just lay down policies, but put into action, if not all, part of the above highlighted point, in order to promote youth development. Also they should remember that success cannot be achieve in isolation but through team work, team spirit and artistic spirit.
