I only brought up the slip to buttress my point that the cancellation is really harsh on Alvarez, who I'm sure wasn't trying to be clever. My main grouse is with the rule regarding a double touch. My own is, slip or no slip, intentional or not, if there's a double touch and the taker scores, the kick should be retaken and not cancelled completely.

The perfect equivalence would be awarding a goal to the opposition team if a goalie saves a pen with neither foot on or behind the line. It's just too harsh

I'd argue that the rule is fair enough since the probability of scoring a PK is relatively higher than the probability of the goal keeper saving it or missing. It makes sense if the rule is skewed to favour the goal keepers coupled with the fact that there's already a rule stating they need to have a foot on the line.
