Reports just reaching us indicate that no fewer than 25 people died in Abuja, Kano, Makurdi and Niger yesterday, while celebrating the victory of President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari. However, police authorities in Kano claimed only seven bodies were discovered by their men after the celebration. According to an eyewitness, Ali Sufi of Naibawa quarters, three people were crushed to death at Naibawa U-turn, when a man in a Toyota Camry car lost control and rammed into those celebrating. Confirming Sabo’s death, guardian to the deceased, Mallam Idi Naibawa said that he (Sabo) died yesterday morning at Malam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital from injuries he sustained in the accident. Idi Naibawa explained that “a good Samaritan, who identified Sabo’s motorcycle reported the accident, and our fear was confirmed at Yarakwa police station that rescued and took him to the hospital. “We have accepted his death as a fulfilment of destiny and barring any hitch, Sabo would be buried before 5p.m. local time today (yesterday).” In another eye witness account, Ibrahim Dogo, a resident of Naibawa quarters in Kano said that two teenagers were crushed to death along Zaria Road by a crazy driver. Dogo said: “We received two dead bodies this morning at the Tiga Naibawa quarters and we are set to bury them.” Another report from Hotoro also confirmed the death of six youngsters during the crazy celebration that engulfed the commercial city. The president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, has assured President Goodluck Jonathan that he has nothing to fear. In his acceptance speech after being declared the winner of Saturday’s presidential election and presented with the certificate of return in Abuja yesterday, Buhari said “despite the rancour of the elections, ” he has no grudge against anyone. Further proving this, he extended “a hand of friendship and conciliation to President Jonathan and his team.” While reading a prepared speech, Buhari also reiterated his determination to end the insurgency in the north-East, rescue the economy and stem corruption which he described as an evil worse than terrorism. The president-elect, who was head of state between 1983, and 1985, said even though there could be a disagreement between him and Jonathan over government, the president remained a great Nigerian. There is no doubt that in tackling the insurgency, we have a tough and urgent job to do. But I assure you that Boko Haram will soon know the strength of our collective will and commitment to rid this nation of terror, and bring back peace and normalcy to all the affected areas. We shall spare no effort until we defeat terrorism.” Reiterating his readiness to fight corruption which, according to him, constitutes a threat to “our economic development and democratic survival,” he said, “no longer shall it( graft) be allowed to stand as if it is a respected monument in this nation.” He added, “We shall strongly battle another form of evil that is even worse than terrorism—the evil of corruption. The number of court cases against the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) over his certificate controversies has risen to 10. According to Punch, eight of the 10 confirmed suits are before the Federal High Court in Abuja, one before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Abuja and one other before the Federal High Court in Umuahia, Abia State. The four complainants are Shield Ufot, Jimmy David, Ogueri Enwerem and Tochukwu Okorie. Ufot said on Wednesday that the suit was filed on behalf of the Niger Delta Salvation Front. In their suit, the complainants claimed that Buhari, “with intent to mislead a public officer as to compliance with the provisions of Section 31 of the Electoral Act, 2010 deposed to various affidavits in the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, wherein he stated that he attended Katsina Provincial Secondary School, Katsina State and obtained a West African School Certificate and that the certificates he claimed to have obtained are with the Nigerian Army.” “That the Nigerian Army, in whose custody Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) claim the certificates are, issued a statement and denied being in possession of the school certificates,” the plaintiffs added. But the plaintiffs in the nine other suits are seeking court order disqualifying the opposition presidential candidate in the March 28 poll. The cases before the Federal High Court in Abuja are seeking the disqualification of Buhari as a presidential candidate. The cases are: FHC/ABJ/CS/116/15 (between Hon Donald Daunemigha v. Gen.
