FOUNDER of Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), Dr Frederick Fasehun, on Wednesday in Lagos promised hell for Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) if the party continues to lie against him and his group as it did on the alleged N2.4billion contract to protect of pipelines in the South-West zone.

This is as Fasehun, who is chairman of the Committee for the Resuscitation of Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN), tasked spokesman of ACN, Alhaji Lai Muhammed, to release the alleged approved N2.4billion contract papers if they were in his possession as the OPC had not won any contract.

Mohammed had in a statement alleged that Dr Fasehun applied and secured N2.4billion contracts in the name of OPC to secure Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) pipeline in the South-West.

He further alleged that the founder of OPC, Fasehun was trying to use part of the proceeds to resuscitate the UPN and destabilise the region.
Speaking at the maiden meeting of the UPN chieftains from across the country, Fasehun, while noting that the ACN was looking for trouble, however, assured that the OPC would not go out of its way to cause trouble.

According to the OPC founder, the statement credited to Mohammed was a lie.

The chairman of Committee for Resuscitation of UPN said it was true that the OPC applied for the contracts in 2010, but was only invited last year by the NNPC who said the organisation was not a registered body and would, therefore, have nothing to do with it.

The All Progressives Congress has expressed its preparedness to receive the Peoples Democratic Party governors sympathetic to the embattled Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, into its fold following the governors’ threats to leave the PDP.

The spokesmen for three of the four parties in the merger, who spoke to SUNDAY PUNCH, were optimistic that the governors and other PDP members would defect to APC as the crisis in the ruling party deepens.

The National Publicity Secretary of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Lai Mohammed, said it was only natural for politicians leaving the PDP to join the APC.

He, however, clarified that the merger neither initiated nor fuelled the crisis in the ruling party.

He said, “The four parties that formed APC–ACN, Congress for Progressive Change, All Nigeria Peoples Party, and All Progressives Grand Alliance – are not the architect of PDP’s problems. In fact, the crisis PDP is facing today predates the coming together of these four parties. But we will be the greatest beneficiaries of the disintegration of PDP.

“On our own, we have not set out to destabilise the PDP, what is happening now was bound to happen and our merger coming at this time is providing an alternative for disgruntled governors, who are unhappy with the way they have been treated in PDP.”

Mohammed said though none of the governors had officially begun discussion with APC, they would be welcomed if they wanted to join the merger.

“To the best of my knowledge, I’m not aware of any of them officially discussing with APC, but what I know is that some of them have openly declared that the coming of our merger is timely, because their scattered umbrella can no longer hold them. So, we have become the alternative for these governors,” he said.

Also, the National Publicity Secretary, of the CPC, Rotimi Fashakin, said the doors of APC were open to aggrieved PDP members.

He said, “Not just the governors, all those who have suffered oppression and the travesty of justice that is common in the PDP are welcome to join APC. It’s a political party, if they show interest, they will be welcomed.”

Similarly, the National Publicity Secretary of the ANPP, Emma Eneukwu, said the APC would woo the PDP governors, in order to swell its ranks.

“Politics is all about people and getting a state governor over is not a small thing. Even though I’m not aware of any ongoing discussions with the governors, I believe there could be some underground moves, but not to my knowledge yet. It is possible,” he said.

Last week, SUNDAY PUNCH reported that the PDP governors sympathetic to Amaechi were threatening to leave the PDP.

The governors reportedly resent the strong-arm tactics employed by President Goodluck and his men in their bid to take over the party machinery.

Defending the formation of the PDP Governors’ Forum, the Political Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan, Ahmed Gulak, had said the forum under the leadership of Amaechi was being run like a trade union.

The Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Godswill Akpabio, had vowed that “Judases” in the party would be probed.

THE founder of Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), Dr Frederick Fasehun, on Monday, cautioned the national publicity secretary of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) against heating up the political space of the South-West.

In a statement issued in Lagos, Fasehun accused the ACN chieftain of playing dirty politics by leading “a campaign of lies and propaganda against him, simply because of his involvement in resuscitating the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN).”

He claimed Mohammed had, during a press conference held on Sunday, openly accused the Federal Government of engineering confusion towards the 2015 polls through several means, including the resurrection of UPN.

The OPC leader is the chairman of the committee for the resuscitation of the party founded in 1978.

“We know how far they can go and we are calling the nation to note that although Fasehun entertains no fear from them, should there be any danger lurking around him or his interests, we will not only attack the offending tree, we shall inflict collateral damage on its branches,” the statement read.

It added that “Nigerians must note that Lai Mohammed and his cohorts are the ones introducing instability into the South-West, through indulging in this sort of misinformation, disinformation, lies and propaganda.”

Fasehun also said Mohammed had allegedly used his press conference to orchestrate recent falsehood posted on the internet that the Federal Government awarded him and OPC a monthly N2.4 billion pipeline protection contract, to bankroll a plan to use UPN to rattle ACN in the South-West.

The medical doctor described them as “lies and propaganda concocted by a warped mentality against him, OPC and the common people of Nigeria.”

He recalled that he addressed the press on January 17, 2013 and in subsequent newspaper and television interviews about the OPC proposal to stem pipeline vandalism, emphasising that his organisation was only toeing the line of private security agencies formed by militants in the Niger-Delta who secured pipeline-protection contracts in their area.

He attributed the claims of the ACN spokesman to party politics, declaring that “UPN is an idea whose time has come and no amount of blackmail will stop it.”

According to the OPC leader, “those resuscitating UPN are committed to the legendary ideals of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, which always made the human person the centre piece of government policy.”

Also the UPN chided the ACN for the “lies” concocted against its leadership and advised the ACN to stop playing on public sympathy and allow public discussion to guide political debate with decorum.

In a statement issued by the chairman, UPN Contact and Mobilisation Committee, Adedeji Salau, a copy of which was made available to the Nigerian Tribune on Monday, the party said “the allegation that the UPN is being resuscitated on the basis of an alleged contract is false. We want to appeal to the ACN to allow truthful public discussion to guide our public debate with decorum.”

I can attest to the fact that the roads are improving, I travelled South West over the weekend and I saw by myself. Dont let anyone fool you, things are working. If they dont like it or dont want to hear it, they know how to keep quiet.

I never praised any road in the SW, I simply meant I travelled to the SW from Abuja, through the ongoing Abuja Lokoja dualisation project, through the Okene Ibilo Owo road and from my assessment, the contractors have improved pace on the Abuja Lokoja road, and FERMA has done a lot of rehabilitation on the Okene Ibilo Owo road. I never talked about roads in the SW before someone will use it to praise their ACN moda forkers.

Vision2017: This has got to show that GEJ administration has lost confidence in itself and is now employing intimidation and oppression tactics to summount any oposition it might face. I see GEJ politically humiliated in the next general election come 2015
