From the first sentence, you can tell that this is absolute hogwash because Yoruba are historically known to be very religious with their steadfast belief in juju. The word yoruba was coined by Oduduwa after a fight with Angel Michael over the smell of Iru in heaven. The archangel, enraged by the combined dirtiness and offensive odour, grabbed Oduduwa and kicked him down to earth and he landed in Ile Ife, screaming "nitori iru ba?!" all the way down, which translates to "is it because of iru?". This scream was heard all the way of his fall from heaven to hell (Ile Ife) and it echoed all over the earth as 'toriruba and riruba. The echo was mistranslated as Yaruba, Yaribah and later Yoruba. |
