The founder of Specialized Tasks, Training, Equipment and Protection, (STTEP), Eeben Barlow, has revealed how President Muhammadu Buhari stopped them from carrying on fighting Boko- Haram terrorists in Nigeria in 2015. In a Facebook post, Barlow said their proposal was antagonised and politicised by Buhari and his team “even before they assumed office.” “The initial 3-phase campaign strategy (known as ‘Operational Anvil’) to degrade and destroy BH in Borno State, was rejected by his advisors,” Barlow added. Barlow, further, stated that the company was willing to stay back in the north east but the President “made it known that the company’s presence would not be tolerated under his office.” In 2014, former President Goodluck Jonathan, in his bid to put an end to the insurgency turned to STTEP, a South African private military contractor, to provide training in new weapons and tactics to the Nigerian Army. But the organization withdrew from the battle in March 2015 following the emergence of Buhari in February of the same year. The organization’s leader also said that prior to, and following their departure from Nigeria, they issued “numerous intelligence warnings” to the president but all was to no avail. “These warnings covered the implications of not allowing the 72 MSF to annihilate BH in Borno province; the plans by Boko Haram to re-arm and escalate their activities; the implications of regional spill-over, the impact on the armed forces; and so forth,” Barlow said. Barlow also opined that the recent attack by the Boko haram sect ‘negates’ Buhari’s promise of defeating the Islamist insurgents, a key promise of Buhari’s 2015 election campaign. The government continues to insist the deadly jihadists have been “technically defeated”. “His narrative that Boko Haram was ‘technically defeated’ was false as soon as he uttered those word,” Barlow affirmed in the post. Barlow’s lashing of the anti-terror war is coming days after reports in the country revealed that the sect on Sunday, November 18 overran a Nigerian Army, 157 Task Force Battalion, in Metele, Borno state. The deadly attack left at least 44 soldiers. However, an officer who was caught in the attack on the troops at Metele told a foreign News platform, Reuters, that “the insurgents took us unawares. We lost about 100 soldiers. It is a huge loss.” The attack is one the most brazen since Buhari came to power in 2015 and it has increased the pressure on him to act fast to nip the crisis in the bud ahead of the election in February 2019, not least because he has claimed victory over the nine-year insurgency. Buhari’s anti-graft war a scam — Green
Party ABEOKUTA —THE Green Party of Nigeria has described the fight against corruption by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration as a scam. President Buhari The party, through its Ogun East Senatorial Candidate, Armstrong Akintunde said: “The youths of the country have learned their lessons from this APC government. When they came, they promised change and we can all see the kind of change they have given us. Going by their promises, I expect that the rate of unemployment should be reduced but, it has even increased. “So, when they tell us they want to take us to the next level, then we understand the kind of next level they will want to take us to, and I am sure the youths of this country will not allow them, because, this administration is the most corrupt in the history of Nigeria. “In fact, their fight against corruption is a scam. If you are truly fighting corruption, then, come out and show us just one case of corruption that you have successfully prosecuted. This government has totally failed. “Before now, we have always tried to get involved in governance ,but, the old ones will always tell us to keep waiting for our own turn and this is one of the reasons which propelled us to pursue the not - too- young -to- run and thank God we secured it.”

2019: Show you’re not afraid, face Atiku
in one-on-one live debate – PDP dares
Buhari Ahead of the 2019 presidential election, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Sunday challenged President Muhammadu Buhari to a “live, one-on-one debate” with its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, on critical sectors of national life. PDP said Buhari was at liberty to pick the venue and time of the debate if he is not afraid of Abubakar. In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, the main opposition party berated President Buhari for “neglecting our troops fighting in the North East and reneging on his promise to “lead the fight from the front”, resulting in the vulnerability and killing of our soldiers by insurgents.” The statement read further, “Nigerians are aware that President Buhari has been mortally afraid of facing our candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in a general debate organized by independent bodies. For this, the PDP grants him the liberty to choose a venue, date and time convenient to him to face our candidate before a neutral panel. “President Buhari must face Atiku Abubakar in person, as Nigerians are not ready to accept any representation, whosoever, from him. If, as a Commander-In-Chief, Mr President cannot face a political debate, how then can he vigorously engage international competitors? “Nigerians can now see why our nation has been under peril in the last three and half years. “President Buhari should be ready to face his failures and avail Nigerians of his sectoral performance scorecards, as well as, present his future blueprint, if any, to enable the electorate weigh him alongside our Presidential candidate. “Mr. President should explain why he has been insensitive to the killing of citizens and soldiers by marauders and insurgents, particularly, given allegations that he has been distracting the Armed forces by dragging them to participate in his re-election campaign. “Nigerians recall that at the time our troops were being attacked by insurgents, our Service Chiefs were attending the launch of President Buhari’s “Next Level” campaign mantra, stolen from a foreign institute. “Nigerians await President Buhari to answer for the humongous corruption in his administration; why he has failed to fulfill any of his 2015 campaign promises and why he cannot show any key development project he initiated and completed in his three and half years in office. “President Buhari must be ready to face the over 40 million Nigerians who lost their jobs and millions more whose businesses have folded up due to his incompetence and harsh economic policies. He must face the victims of human rights violations, extra-judicial killings, illegal arrests and arbitrary detention under his administration. “President Buhari came to power through false promises and propaganda. Now, the day of reckoning has come and he cannot run away from his failures. “On our part, our candidate is ready to face President Buhari, one-on-one. He has his scorecard in governance and his blueprint for national rebirth; wealth creation, youth empowerment and building a prosperous nation, which has become dominant among the aspirations of Nigerians.” |
